She has pretty eyes. And she's a fun lefty. Unfortunately, she's rather streaky... as she won Gold Coast, SF in Charleston, but then loses to stuff like qualifiers most weeks. Stop that.

Happy birthday to lovely Lucie. She's a unique tennis player and has a style all her own.

She's a funky lefty.
And BAMs the ball hard.
Lucie is in the 2nd round of Paris. She's playing very well this year.
I think it's time to bump Lucie up to "we" status.
We're playing very well this year. Just be consistent enough to make 2r's most of the time, please.

Leelee, it seems like you've kicked Elena Bovina to the curb in favor of Lucie Safarova. But I hope that's not the case. You can have more than one favorite female tennis player.

Lucia defeated Nicole 6-4 6-2!
She's in the QF, and has a good shot to win against Kuznetsova. Who is allergic to indoor courts. Much like Caprifati was.
I have not kicked Elena to the curb, but her career is ending. Or, already has. It's time to move on.

That's a great win for Lucie. Totally unexpected; that's the best kind.
cat, Leena did need a backup player to support. She's just being realistic, not kicking anyone to the curb. Let's face it: poor old EB has been out of the game for ages and her prospects for a quick return look dim. Do you want Leena to be delusional like some Seles fans and just sit on Google, searching for comeback clues?
The minute Giant Barbie comes back, her fans will support her again. Including Leena, I'm sure.

It wasn't that surprising. She has defeated Nicole before. And Lucie is just as talented. Methinks her confidence has improved since she got together with Tomas. So cute. And just so people don't think my favoritism of Lucie is unfounded, I've followed her since her 25k days. Fellow WTAWorld troublemaker Jordan told me of her at the Lafayette tournament. He said she reminded him of Bovina, except left handed. They don't look that similar... except for the mesmerizing eyes, and same colored hair. I would have jumped on sooner, but my favorites must at least be 2r scrubs. Lucie dropped from that last year, as she lost like 20 1r's after her fine green clay stretch.

How tall is she?

Post by leelee on Feb 9, 2007 12:41:08 GMT -5
5'9. She looks tall though, because she's lanky. A win over Kuznetsova, and decisively. 6-3 6-4. Lucie now in the Top 30... #28 now, I believe. Keep risin'.

Better Lucie than Pratty in the top 30! Nah, really, good for her. Great week she's putting together here.

With how Lucie has played in 2007 thus far, she may fly up the rankings later in the year...
After her SF at AI, and QF at Charleston... she has very little to defend the rest of the year. SF at little Palermo is all.

Just tell me that she's never trained in a Florida academy, and I will support her 100%. The tennis world is running dangerously low on fun lefties, and I love fun lefties best of all , though they've usually been men so far. And we need someone new, and explicitly non-Bollettierian and non-corporate, to cause a little commotion at the complacent top of the game. (Okay, Serena can cause commotion, but we've already been down that road. We need NEW!)

Wow, congrats to Lucie! Beat the #2 player in the world in straight sets; that's a pretty convincing announcement.

Lucie defeated Justine 7-6 6-4 to make the Paris final. I don't believe Lucie ever trained in the US, but I don't follow those things much.

People at wtaworld who watched the match say Lucie was playing GREAT, especially compared to the two players in the error-ridden 2nd SF.
Justine led 5-2 in the first set, had 3 set points, and couldn't close. Her fine serving deserted her (as all longterm JH fans expected it would, soon enough). So it wasn't ALL great-Lucie that accounts for the result, but it was a LOT Lucie. She seems to be the real deal; hope she can keep it up and soon knock some boring baseline bashers aside to get herself in the top 10.

Okay, not to hog the thread, but one thing I really like about this kid is that she's not scared to beat top players. She DOESN'T CHOKE IT AWAY like most young players do when those huge opportunities come along. I love that.
Now I just hope she doesn't shriek or scream when she hits the ball ...

Her performance this week is Exhibit A why completely abolishing bonus points was a ridiculous move. She beats #9, #5, and #2 (and hopefully/probably #7) and she won't rise any higher than #25 come Monday.
They gave out too many bonus points in the past, but she should get SOME sort of ranking recognition for the quality of her victories.

Janie, it takes lefties a little bit longer to mature and develop their games. Lucie is coming on strong and the WTA Tour needs a new star such as Lucie to make the tour more interesting.

I think Lucie is the real deal. She definitely has the power and shotmaking ability. That's why I was surprised at her poor play last year. She's not much of a grunter, either. At least the couple times I've seen her play.
Lucie has already taken advantage of the bumped up rankings for 2007, anyway. I won't complain.

I'm glad Lucie played poorly last year. Leena, if Lucie had played great last year and become a star, you know you would never have chosen her as your EB backup fave, because she'd have a huge & annoying bandwagon of fans already. Then we wouldn't have a thread about her, and we'd have nobody to ask questions to about her. I wouldn't even know she's a lefty. So it worked out better this way. @ that "58 years old".
