Also, who is this Esther character? A junior gal or a wheelchair star? Shame! She's won about 300 consecutive wheelchair matches. Gold medals every Paralympics. And she was even a star basketball player. I know there isn't much depth... but, she's amazing. And freakishly strong. She makes Maria's shoulders look weak. And she's also cuter! Ever since TTC showed the US Open stuff, and showed the story about her, I'm a BIG fan. I just want to see her on TV again.

Cool for Maria. She was the best player this fortnight.

I watched it on mute for a short while. Then I got bored and napped. I woke up and caught the very end. Do you think that Robotapova practices emotions in the mirror at night? If so, she needs more work on that. Her attempt to demonstrate the joy that she felt from victory was really, really, painfully weak. I had to turn it off again at this point, as I presumed that the trophy ceremony was only going to be an even more painful display of poor acting.
All of that said, the best player over the past two weeks won. So, no complaints.

She looks extremely fake when she expresses joy, it has always been that way. (That's not bashing her; that's just telling it like it is). I always love to watch the reaction of winners, even the Williams sisters, but today I stopped watching at 5-3.
Speaking of reactions, the reaction Tsonga had after he beat Nadal was one of the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

It's so fake that it's painful. She might as well give the Myskina Reaction and not even bother. I'm sure that she actually does feel happy and all, if only because that's the basic human emotion that one would expect one to have over such an accomplishment... so it's unfortunate that she comes across so... joyless. I missed Tsonga's reaction, though I saw some photos and a brief clip. At least his form of happy was believable

Yeah, Tsonga is pretty nuts.
He was doing all kinds of weird, bi-polar stuff against Murray, as well.
But, his smile is gorgeous. How do you get your teeth that white.

I fell asleep. I don't think I missed much. I might watch the highlights, if I remember. Oh well. I'm impressed at how firmly Sharapova's turned her career around. Others could learn from her.

Congrats to Maria and her fans; what a fantastic 2 weeks. And at the age of 20, to have already captured 3 of the 4 majors is great stuff. I didn't watch any of her matches, so I have no comments on the tennis, but the way Maria steamrolled through the whole tournament is darned impressive.
Having said that, I hope she never does it again. ;D

I can't believe that dropshot. And the horrendous wild miss in the next point. She better not be broken now. I watched the highlights. Those two points...that game, man. Ana was controlling it, then she totally blew it. Fin.

It was a pleasure to see Maria and Ana handle themselves well during the match with no controversies and after the match with nice words for each other. They both gave nice speeches under difficult circimstances. Ana was crushed to have lost another grand slam final but pulled herself together to give a good speech. Masha was not well too received by the Australian crowd but shrugged it off gave a fairly long speech and had some nice words for Ana and others. On a side note I have never not seen the handshake at the net after match point of a grand slam final until last night. I couldn't believe the camera person only focused on Maria's side of the net and didn't even showing she and Ana shaking hands. From a human interest story the handshake is always important to see after a grand slam is over expecially in women's tennis where handshakes are often very weak. I'm going to not try and get my hopes up that Maria will win the very rare career grand slam at this years French Open. But if she has a good clay court season heading into the French Open I will likely get my hopes up. P.S. - I noticed the verbose legendary tennis journalist Bud Collins referred to Maria and Ana as beauteous last night. You can never tell what Bud will say.

Very similar to their first match back in late 2006. Ivanovic can be a very bad matchup for Maria if she's serving decently. I mean, Maria had a single serving glitch in the 1st set and was two points away from losing it. They're both baseline bashers, but with somewhat different styles - Maria makes greater use of angles and in general hits deeper and closer to the lines, Ivanovic hits a somewhat bigger ball but with a bigger margin for error in terms of placement (she beats scrubs essentially by hitting very hard down the middle), and it's ultimately her brainless shot selection that undoes her.
