Big comeback win for Vicky Duval over Bouchard! Eugenie was up a break in the 3rd early on but ended up losing it 4-6. EB should stay away from the juniors; it can only hurt her confidence. No way can it help her now that she's used to being out and about in the Hidden World.

The word on the street is that Bouchard's 1st serve %was 48%. Is this what we call a scoreleena? Siniakova def. Abanda 0-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Silly Abanda! Alicia Black also lost, as did Chalena the New Scholl. But how about this for a dramatic 3rd-rd encounter: Haitian refugee takes on European royalty. GO HAITI GO!

Wouldn't it be funny if Kathinka's parents were street people?

ha! Or even mail carriers, like M. Henin, or taxi drivers like Mr. Ward.

I don't think there's anyone even middle class in LIE. It also just so happens to be the free market paradise on Earth.

I don't know anything about that place, but I hope they won't be too despondent that their Countess is on her way home after a crushing defeat.

In that case, it would REALLY be funny if there were street people. The taxi drivers, less so, since they probably drive Jags and pull down humungous tips. 3rd Round Kimmer COPPEJANS (BEL) [1] 6-2 6-3 Hyeon CHUNG (KOR) Kaichi UCHIDA (JPN) [8] 7-5 7-6(5) Harrison ADAMS (USA) Liam BROADY (GBR) [13] 6-7(5) 6-4 6-3 Maxime HAMOU (FRA) Wayne MONTGOMERY (RSA) 6-2 6-3 Stefan "The Prodigy" KOZLOV (USA) Yoshihito NISHIOKA (JPN) 7-5 6-3 Maximilian MARTERER (GER) Gianluigi QUINZI (ITA) [3] 3-6 6-2 6-1 Julien CAGNINA (BEL) [16] Nick KYRGIOS (AUS) [7] 6-7(2) 6-1 6-2 Frederico Ferreira SILVA (POR) [9] Filip PELIWO (CAN) [2] 6-3 6-3 Kyle EDMUND (GBR) Taylor TOWNSEND (USA) [1] 6-0 7-6(5) Marcela ZACARIAS (MEX) [16] Anett KONTAVEIT (EST) [12] 6-4 6-4 Katerina SINIAKOVA (CZE) [6] Victoria DUVAL (USA) 6-2 6-2 Kathinka VON DEICHMANN (LIE) Anna DANILINA ("KAZ") [9] 5-7 6-3 6-1 Caroline DOYLE (USA) Ilka CSOREGI (ROU) 6-2 6-2 Ipek SOYLU (TUR) Antonia LOTTNER (GER) [4] 6-4 6-7(4) 6-0 Ana KONJUH (CRO) [13] Samantha CRAWFORD (USA) 0-6 6-1 6-3 Sachia VICKERY (USA) [8] Yulia PUTINTSEVA (KAZ) [2] 7-6(8) 7-6(3) Carol ZHAO (CAN) [14]

Finals: Filip PELIWO (CAN) [2] 6-2 2-6 7-5 Liam BROADY (GBR) [13] Peliwo is apparently the first player to appear in all 4 GS finals in a calendar year since Mark Kratzmann in 1984. Kratzmann flopped in pro singles but turned out to be a top 10 doubles specialist, with 18 ATP titles (usually partnering Killer Cahill or brother Andrew Kratzmann). The other top-three seeds surprisingly lost to Japanese players in the quarters: Kaichi UCHIDA (JPN) [8] 6-1 6-4 Kimmer COPPEJANS (BEL) [1] Yoshihito NISHIOKA (JPN) 6-7(5) 6-3 6-0 Gianluigi QUINZI (ITA) [3] Fascinating fact: Nishioka lost to Peliwo at all 3 slams he played (he did not play Oz). Distaff Final Samantha CRAWFORD (USA) 7-5 6-3 Anett KONTAVEIT (EST) [12]

Wow, nice stat for Peliwo! And I hope I will finally recognize once and for all that the second L in his name is really an i, because I keep mis-seeing that, and if he gets good, it'll be embarrassing. So is this Crawford kid the great-granddaughter of Joan, I assume? I guess we'll find out if she comes out to play with huge shoulder pads on.

14yo Kaitlyn MCCARTHY, out of North Carolina, titled at a G2 in in Montreal. She won the USTA Girls 12 National Championships a couple of years ago. 14yo Spanish-based Moldovan Aliona BOLSOVA titled at the Egyptian G2. Jr Davis Cup and Fed Cup, final day of RR play, woohoo. USA def. RUS 2-0 to win its group. AUS def. ARG (on clay!) to win its group, behind a heroic 57 76(6) 63 win by Harry Bourchier over Lautaro Pane. FRA def. KOR in the decisive doubles to take that group. Powerhouse ITA (Quinzi and Baldi) cruised in their group. On the distaff side: No worries for USA in their group. Taylor Townsend has had some shaky matches, but both she and USA were undefeated. ITA had the chance to win its group with a win over BRA, but the Brazilians ruined it making it hard - they forced a deciding doubles, which BRA won. The hero of the day was Carolina Meligeni Alves, who won her singles point and the doubles. I think BRA will win the tie-break formula, but don't quote me on that. Looks like the third group will finish in a first place tie between PAR (!!!) and AUS - not sure how they will break the tie. Pistols at dawn, I say! RUS waltzed to 1st place in the final group.

Distaff: Russia has already whooped Australia. USA also def. Brazil 2-0. Townsend had another adventure vs Haddad Maia but prevailed 67(3) 76(3) 61. Non-distaff: ITA def. FRA 2-0 AUS def. USA 2-0 The USA loss was not a total surprise. Even though Noah Rubin has an excellent jr record, the AUS player Thanasi Kokkinakis plays mainly the pro tour, and has an ATP ranking already in the 800s at age 16. Kokkinakis won easily 3 & 2. The other single point was a tight affair, won by Bourchier over the prodigy Kozlov in 3.
