Ugh, I'd really like to be watching Konjuh vs Black right now but there are no streams. Konjuh up 4-3 in the decider, on serve.
Strange to think that Konjuh's well inside the top 300 and will be in Slam qualies at least by next year, whereas Black hasn't even played a pro tournament this year and has no ranking (though she made a 10K final in 2012).

Konjuh wins, 8-6 in the third set TB CRO is going to be a serious tennis powerhouse, Coric won the boys' title too.

I wanted to watch it, too, at least for long enough to get a sense of these 2 and what sort of games they've got. It's fabulous to have 15-year-olds in a Slam final again. I think the junior cutoff age should be 17 instead of 18.

Pan American ITF, USA, Grade B1:
Girls' final pits 2 15-year-olds against each other: top-seeded T. Alicia Black and one Kaitlyn McCarthy, the 13 seed.
Surprisingly, Black needed 3 sets and 3 hours in the SFs to take out the 4th seed, Mexican 16-year-old Renata Zarazua, who was apparently pretty successful with her dropshots. McCarthy's SF opponent was just as surprising: a 14-year-old(!) Canadian named Katherine Sebov. But McCarthy's most impressive win was her come-from-behind QF victory over 7-seed Shishkina, 36 64 60.

Pan Am boys' champion: Francis Tiafoe, another 15-year-old. He's from College Park, Md, aka (sometime) Hurleytown, USA.

Eddie Herr, G1
Another early loss for Tornado Black, seeded #2, this time to a ROU. I think she lost in the QFs. She's only 15 so these results are meaningless for her future career, and in fact may be good in that they reduce the excessive early hype that her mother so craves.
Forgot to mention that the formerly hyped but now mysterious Maria Shishkina apparently pulled out from Yucatan Cup, Eddie Herr, and Orange Bowl.

Her ROU conqueror, Jaqueline Cristian, also beat her in the Petit As final last year and is meant to be good as well. Will be interesting to see which 1998-99 girls step up in the ITFs next year - Black, Cristian and the mysteriously absent Shishkina are the most touted I think...

Oh! I wasn't familiar with Cristian. Thanks for the heads-up! We can ALWAYS use more ROUs.

Ines Ibbou, everyone's favorite Algerian teen tennis player, has turned 15. This week she's playing in a Junior Grade 2 event in Tunisia, where she has reached the QFs, after knocking out the 3rd seed, a Brit, in r1. All the other players who reached the QFs, on both the girls' and boys' sides, are Europeans.
