Jr Fed Cup final USA def Russia 2-0 Brazil went home with the bronze
Jr Davis Cup Italy def. Australia 2-1 USA claimed the bronze
Lots of drama in the boys' final: Harry Bourchier def. Filippo Baldi 46 76 (2) 10-8 Gianluigi Quinzi def. Thanasi Kokkinakis 16 60 63 Quinzi/Baldi def. Bourchier/Kokkinakis 60 36 62
"The Australian faltered on Bourchier’s serve in the sixth game of the third set to allow Italy to move ahead 4-2. Kokkinakis was so upset when they lost their serve he couldn’t contain his emotions. Italy won the next two games to close out the competition for this year."

14yo Shilin XU, a 1998-born Chinese girl based in Florida, won a G2 in Beijing last week. She had this to say when she was 12yo: "I like tennis because you get to beat other people. It's cool."
Xu turned some heads when she won a $10K round in Buffalo this year.
Speaking of 1998, 14yo Greenwich, CT native William BLUMBERG won a G5 in Waco. He was the Petits As runner-up this year, and most importantly, the Little Mo 10yo champ in 2008.

We should also catch up on everyone's very favorite Junior player: Rongrong! Rongrong has been active, if not notably successful. She played a G3 in Hong Kong this week, but sadly fell in r2: Jiayuan XUE (CHN) def. Rongrong LEENABANCHONG (THA) [8] 6-4 4-6 6-3 But we can assume that that loss was due to Raycist linespeople! Even so, it's not much of a sign of future GOAThood for the 17-year-old. But maybe she'll prove to be a late bloomer.

Thak you for this important news, Janie. That would be the Chickeeduck Hong Kong Open Junior Tennis Championships. By the way, at that event the above-mentioned 14yo Shilin Xu has made it to the final. On the non-distaff side, pleased to see that Jurence Zosimo MENDOZA (PHI) has struggled through to the semis, where he will face 15yo Dutchie Tim VAN RIJTHOVEN.

Wow! For a Florida-based 14-year-old, that Shilin Xu really gets around! Who takes US Juniors over to Hong Kong -- for a G3?? Maybe her Dad is as rich as Brie Whitehead's.
Anyway if she's in the final, I take it she beat You? Are You Is You any good?
Anyway I think I'll remember this kid because her name reminds me of a Bruce Lee word. Technically that was Shaolin and not Shilin, but close enough. I loved and adored Bruce Lee, so if this Xu doesn't shriek and play mindless bashing tennis, I might like her.

Xu won that event. And yeah, she did beat You. (I look forward to a SEWTA future when Mi vs You finals become commonplace!) Boys' Chickeeduck final result not on ITF yet.

I did not know that you liked Bruce Lee. Maybe You likes Bruce too, we must ask her some time!
The lack of a result from the boys' Chickeeduck final is annoying me.

Pan American ITF Championships
3rd Round
Carol ZHAO (CAN) [1] 6-0 4-6 6-1 Camila FUENTES (USA) [14] Rasheeda MCADOO (USA) [9] 5-3 Retired Tornado Alicia BLACK (USA) [7] (disappointing there is no clear winner of this tilt) Christina MAKAROVA (USA) [3] 6-2 6-0 Alexandra MOROZOVA (USA) Louisa CHIRICO (USA) 6-4 7-5 Ellie HALBAUER (USA) [12] Jennifer BRADY (USA) [5] 6-1 6-1 Denise STARR (USA) [10] Maria SHISHKINA (USA) 6-4 6-1 Jessica HO (USA) Jamie LOEB (USA) [6] 7-5 6-1 Maddie POTHOFF (USA) Francoise ABANDA (CAN) [2] 6-4 6-0 Dasha IVANOVA (USA) [15]
I guess much of the buzz will be about 14yo "The Next Sharapova" Shishkina, who has breezed through the draw.

Here's an interesting thread at the tennis warehouse forum in which junior GOAT Peliwo answers a bunch of questions: tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=442583He seems like a bright young man. I'm tempted to post his quote about being able to beat Serena on TF just to watch the crazies react.

The weakest of the GA tournaments (because of the big travel for most players), Osaka, is on this week. Many eyes are on WC Yusuke TAKAHASHI, who just turned 15 last week. He is through to the 3R but has a daunting match upcoming vs Nick KYRGIOS (AUS) (world #5). On the distaff side, I have thrown my support to Indy DE VROOME.

Osaka news So much for the 15yo prospect: Nick KYRGIOS (AUS) [1] 6-1 6-0 Yusuke TAKAHASHI (JPN). Another sad 3R score: Borna CORIC (CRO) [4] 7-5 6-2 Jurence Zosimo MENDOZA (PHI) [13] The only unseeded girl left after 3 rounds is the 15yo Swiss, Jil Belen TEICHMANN. Indy is still alive.

14yo William Blumberg, about whom I believe we spoke last month when he won the 18u in Waco, won a round at the Atlanta G4 this week. Winning a round on the girl's side: Maja Palaversic Coopersmith's 13yo, 1999-born daughter, Nicole Coopersmith. Ironically, her 2R opponent is Maia A. MAGILL, out Studio City, CA.

Eddie Herr G18 QFs, aka Old Yurrup def. the New World
(16)Barbara Haas (AUT) d. (6)Carol Zhao (CAN) 36 64 61 (5)Belinda Bencic (SUI) d. (14)Jennifer Brady (USA) 61 64 (7)Ana Konjuh (CRO) d. Rebecca Peterson (SWE) 61 62 (2)Katerina Siniakova (CZE) d. Fiona Ferro (FRA) 63 64
Konjuh, by the way, is closing in on her 15th birthday. Bencic is 15, Siniakova and Haas 16. So possibly the 1996-97 generation could bring the shot in the arm that SEWTA is waiting for (at least for those of us who are tired of Serena-Masha-Aza dominance).
Let's just hope none of the 96ers and 97ers will be screechers.

She was never "not allowed" to play any event; she just had to pay her own expenses to play the USO instead of getting a free ride. She's played some challengers this fall, which I think is a great idea for promising juniors.
Ah! How could I have forgotten that she beat MLdB and Grace Min in a 25K. That was in a 25K which she had to qualify for first. Those were her best results; not bad for age 16 (these days!)

By the way, it's only the 18s that play on clay at Eddie Herr. Younger groups are still playing on hard courts. Don't quite see the reasoning of that.
