Puchkova suddenly cares about winning matches again? I presume the modelling work has dried up. Good for Ishizu and Puig! Maybe we can get some junior breakthroughs that don't suck immediately.

There are 2 more 50Ks this week, too, in Prague and in Florida. I might post about them after they've completed r1, or maybe later, if no one else does. But with a fancypants 100K+H and 3 50Ks going on this week, the better players are pretty thin on the ground in these 2 events, as in Japan. But Japan has Sachie!

I saw that livestream last night. Quite astonishingly good. Sadly the match on court - Riske/Capra - held my attention for approximately one game

ha, yeah, that's the one problem with that multi-camera livestream.
Someone at TF said Capra has decided to play college tennis, so, if it's true, that's a good decision from a young USian. For once, a player with one good result has not been lured into the go-pro mire.

Iijima and Nakamura are both in the semis of Fukuoka Hopefully Aiko gets in the final and Kumiko avoids a double bagel. Do any of these clay specialists even bother to play, I don't know, a clay tournament as a warm-up prior RG? Or are they confident about storming through the Q rounds...?

I actually meant all the players who decided to play Fukuoka and are also signed up to play RG. So, yeah, that means only the seeded players. Chan is a completely fine claycourter and even though the rest(Namigata, Tanasugarn, Iijima) are awful, they probably should at least try to play a tournament or 2. With this attitude they're already not giving themselves many chances.
I'm afraid believing alone won't be of much help.

Kumiko exceeded my expectations, was expecting a beatdown similar to the one she received in India a few weeks ago. Always a soft spot for the South American challenger players playing abroad

Me, too, and I'm shocked to see it's Paula O. who's doing it. I sure didn't see that coming during my 10K game days. Too bad most of them who make this move end up going straight downhill afterward: Cravero, Duque-Marino ...

Post by lexpretend on May 8, 2011 3:05:58 GMT -5
Ormaechea beat Oprandi as well I think I'd have more of a soft spot for the South Americans if there wasn't a 99% likelihood of them turning out to be awful clay-only retrievers (which is why they all go downhill so soon!). Baltacha's run to a clay SF is definitely one of the more improbable things to have happened this year. Barrois, hang your head in shame.

Kutuzova is back! Was wondering what happened to her.
Another eternal member of the hidden world who dropped off the radar for the last year or so, 31yo Katalin Marosi is keen to climb the rankings again. She won the first round of Zagreb 25k. To my pleasure of course, no one else should care about her anymore.
