My pleasure Boreas. In Orléans, Flukas Rosol de-rampantified Tursunov, with a 4&4 1R win. Nice job by Dancevic to reach the quarters after wins over Bolleli and Bemelmans. Top seed Kohschreiber flamed out 1R to WC Mannarino.

At the Madrid Challenger, Pedro Sousa did the unthinkable -- he lost to a Brit (qualifier Alexander Ward) on clay! I hope people don't mock him in the streets of Lisbon when he goes home.

This Guido Pella fella: big hope or little hope for the Argies? ? Oh, I don't know. He's 22, so my guess is that he won't become a top 40 guy, but he's certainly having a dandy year (ranking rise from 346 at year end 2011 to 121 currently).

So, Rubens. Staved off a MP there. He's a lefty, 2-handed BH, game is unpolished. About to go down to Goffin

I remember Bemelmans from having been at the Hopman Cup one year, and everyone saying, "Huh?". Anyway, Goffin went to his homeland this week for a Challenger in Mons -- lost 1R to Llodra (tough draw for a possibly - chap). The only Belgians in the quarters are Little Oli and WC Maxime Authom. In Sacramento, RNS Kosakowski has made the quarters after notably beating top seed B.Becker. Another US RNS is in the final 8, Tennys Sandgren. So is recent Stanford grad Bradley Klahn, who will face Blake. Massu, who incredibly has not retired yet, is in the Quito Challenger as a WC and has made the QF, where he faces the Schwankster. Another quarterfinalist is J.Souza (BRA).

Some notes from last week's futures:
Prakash Amritraj (!) qualified in Irvine and made the semis, where he lost to A-Bog (GBR). The champion was Daniel Nguyen, a recent USC grad just turned pro.
Rampant Riccardo Bellotti won his 4th title in his last 5 events, as he was champ in Pozzuoli.
Recent jr grad Jason Kubler made the finals at a clay tourney in Sevilla, where he lost to Gerry Granollers. His 2R victim was M.Djokovic, 4-6 6-3 6-0. Marko, hang out in the gym with your bro this winter.
In Brazil, a title for 2010 RG jr champ Agustin Velotti (ARG). He's progressing slower than expected, and this was his first Futures since June. He had been working the Challenger circuit with only modest success. By the way, Augie was back on the Challenger circuit in Brazil this week and made the QF (lost to De Bakker).

Last week' Challengers Rising French Ivo Kenny de Schepper titled at the biggest Challenger of the week in Mons. He beat Llodra. Sacramento final: J. BLAKE [2] def. M. ZVEREV, 61 16 64. But the week's big news came from the Quito final: J. SOUZA [4] def. G. RUFIN [2], 62 76(4) Note that Massu, a.k.a the male Bovina, made it to the semis before falling to the eventual champ. Futures roundup: The Bolivian ZEBALLOS, Federico, won the La Paz event. In Kuwait, One of the pillars of the magnificent Madagascar DC squad, Antso RAKOTONDRAMANGA, qualified and won a round. He was unranked, so he will now have at least a point. ;D

Other Futures news from last week: The big news: unranked Andreas VINCIGUERRA titled in Jonkoping. Child star Oliver Golding was RUP in Qatar. Speaking of Brit RNS, my personal fave Kyle Edmund qualified in Spain, and won a round. The champ at that event was Roberto CARBALLES BAENA, last year's Euro jr champ. Brydan Klein lost the Antalya final to Stéphane Bohli.

This week there is a Tashkent Challenger 1R score of note: WEINTRAUB, Amir def. KLEIN, Brydan, 64 46 75 ;D Both Sousas were in San Pedro, ARG for a Challenger and lost 1R. The Brazilian Souza is taking a well-deserved week off after titling in Quito.

The Bolivian Futures Circuit is once again fertile with excitement. Federico CORIA has reached the semis, where he will face veteran Argy journeyman Joaquin-Jesus MONTEFERRARIO. The other semi pits 16yo future GOAT Gianluigi QUINZI versus Peruvian Davis Cupper Mauricio ECHAZU. I am pleased to see that one of my FONOs, Nicolas KICKER, has reached the semis of the Coquimbo $10K. 19yo Oli GOLDING had another decent tourney in Qatar, but the child star lost for the second time in as many weeks to 29yo Frenchy Clément REIX. Reix will battle a blast from the past, Adam CHADAJ, in the final.

In that Bolivian Futures event, Coria and Quinzi made it to the semis before tasting defeat. Uladzimir IGNATIK, the former jr #1 and current pro flop out of Belarus, titled at the Taskhent $125K. He has his ranking up into the top 150 now, which is better than it's been for most of his career. Socko was your Tiburon $100K champ.

From ATP.com
"Portugal’s Gastao Elias captured his first Challenger title of the season at the Peugeot Tennis Cup in Rio de Janiero, defeating Boris Pashanski 6-3, 7-5. The World No. 174 upset second seed Joao Souza and eighth seed Federico Gil en route to the trophy."
Actually, the player he upset was 2nd seed Joao Sousa. Joao Souza was seeded 6th at that tournament, and lost 2R to R.Mello. Pedro Sousa was also there, unseeded - he lost 1R to Cult fave Guido Pella (who made it to the semis before losing to Pashanski).

Former top-50 Mischa Zverev is now slumming in the Futures, and won a $15K in Mansfield, Texas. In Chile, Gianluigi QUINZI had another decent run, making the semis. Casablanca $15K final: Victor CRIVOI (ROU) [7] 6-3 1-6 6-4 Lamine OUAHAB (ALG) [6]

Jimmy Wang has reached the Seoul Challenger semis -- he will face rampant Yuichi SUGITA, who is at his career high rank of 135, 2010 RG jr champ Augie Velotti is through to the QF of the Buenos Aires $75K. Porto Alegre was a graveyard for the Souszas. 1R: PELLA, Guido def. SOUSA, Pedro, 62 67(2) 75 PASHANSKI, Boris def. SOUZA, Joao, 63 36 63 ODESNIK, Wayne def, SOUSA, Joao, 64 63

Velotti crumbled in the Buenos Aires semis, losing 3 and 1 to eventual champ Diego Sebastian SCHWARTZMAN By the way, Andrea Collarini, the USian who lost that RG jr final to Velotti, is listed as ARG now. He was born in the USA, moved to ARG at age 3, then was "bought" by the USTA (took a USTA scholarship in 2010 and started representing the USA in jr and pro competitions), and is now back to being an ARG. "I am Argentine, my family and my friends are here... I was born in America, but I grew up and developed my tennis in Argentina. I appreciate my experience in North America, but my place is here."

Bastl must have been inspired by the one and only Miloslav Mecir reaching the quarters in a challenger last week.
