I hope people remember this one from the now-deceased WTAWorld... this is the thread set up to acclaim and applaud all those under-covered "journeymen" and obscure players on the Tour. I have my own favourite base of nobodies, ranging from Schalken and Spadea to Novak and Koubek, but if everyone else could post and suggest some more nobody names we could build up a profile of exactly who is eligible for this thread.

How about some badly-slumping nobodies desperately in need of cheering to stay in the Top 100? Does that qualify? Then Michel Kratochvil's your man!

Don't worry, it doesn't matter whether they're ranked 30 or 100, if they're not regularly discussed and don't have their own huge cheering threads then they're naturally eligible to be included here.
Kratochvil is especially suitable given that he, along with Hackie's other fave Nieminen, is one of the few players to remain titleless at present. In this respect they are joined by Spadea, the X-Man and Lopez to name a few, so they must certainly qualify for the nobody thread, even though I am reluctant to include the X-Man in any sort of thread...

Low-ranked? Struggling? Lack of media coverage but still a good player? Heck, yes. Bottom line is, anyone outside the Top 30 more or less qualifies for the list, along with overlooked, "dull" players inside the Top 30. I'd just like to know who everyone's favourite nobody is, really... as you can gather, my own is probably higher-ranked than most. ;D

Sjeng played really well yesterday, still don't know why he lost so easily in Queens. Ok, Portas is really no match on grass but still he looked good on court, though whenever he serves I get some feeling of.... OUCH that gotta hurt Kiefer needs all the cheering he can get if he keeps losing like that he'll be out of the top 100 in no time SO GOOO KIWI

my favourite nobody is Arazi and come to think of it, i've seen him for the first time on indoor courts just last year and he's already an oldy. given his poor recent record and age, it's very likely i will see him only once or twice before he retires

Mad Max! The Beast is desperately seeking good results in singles now... although he does at least have one singles title to his name! And, oh yeah, he won today in straights over Ginepri. Come on Max, win Nottingham!!

Hmm... now you see, I'm not sure you can count Mantilla and Gonzalez as nobodies. Mantilla is a TMS champion this year, Gonzalez is one of the ATP's most publicised players and a well-known and flamboyant character. Still, if that's whom people's favourite player is... A day of disaster for the Rochus family today, with both brothers losing convincingly - although I can't say I'm too upset with Christophe's defeat, given that he was double-bagelled by the Sjengster! Now that is a much more impressive win than the first round considering how tough a match they had in the same round last year. If Schalken can beat Robredo in the quarters, we'll be guaranteed a Dutchman in the final for the second year in a row. Sluiter was thrashing Srichaphan with a triple break in the second set before he really tightened up and was lucky to squeak out the win on his third opportunity with a couple of fortuitous points. Srichaphan may well prefer grass to clay, but as he said himself he's already looking forward to the hard-court season...

Felix is no longer a nobody... after he d Rogi in Roma03 and also when he knocked Lleyt out of the TMS TO 1st rd!! Yeah, I think people know who Gonzo is now... As for CRochus... well, Sjeng certainly creamed him... handing him a double bagel w cream cheese! I'm happy that Robredo got to the QF but now he has to play Sjeng... a tough task!

Well, congrats to Sjeng for his most interesting and impressive win today. He seems determined to show last year was no fluke Michel, unfortunately, lost almost as convincingly, though a fellow fan clubber said it was a good, tight match and, once again, he didn't play the big points well. *sigh* That's the new story with him, it appears GO SJENG! DEFEND, DEFEND, DEFEND!

Doesn't Mantilla fit into the "Lack of media coverage but still a good player" category? Gonzo is certainly not a nobody. Mad Max! You're losing now to Hicham Arazi on GRASS?! I think I'll jump on the wagon and cheer for Sjeng in his attempt at defending. If he loses in the quarters, mehopes Tommy goes all the way!

Leo, don't you dare to diss Hicham here Btw, Arazi is having a good tournament. Had to play qualies, then beat the Beast and W. Arthurs. Yay! Allez Hicham

Last week in Queens he looked completely lost against Rusedski's serves on grass and now he beats two big servers on grass, looking good Hicham (as always ) Arazi

Well, third time unlucky against Rusedski today - but it was a much closer match than Queens, I only saw some highlights but there were some superb points including one exchange at the net where Rusedski eventually put away the volley and Arazi walked to the chair at the change of ends smiling in amazement. He had a break in the second set, but Rusedski was not only serving well, but returning well.
He now plays Fish, not Bjorkman, in the final, so a great opportunity for him to win his second Nottingham title! If he does win, it'll be the first career title that he wins twice, all twelve have been different tournaments. Mind you, this would be Fish's first win too, and he's serving bombs, so the result is not a given...
The Sjengster took care of Robredo for the second time in as many years at Rosmalen! That means he levels their head to head at 2-2 and now leads their matches played at that tournament 2-1. And he plays Sluiter in the semis, a guy I like too, so either way there's a Dutchman in the final. A distinct possibility of a repeat of last year's final, given that Clement must be the favourite against Vacek.
