Actually, I think Feli can beat Rogi, so no need to count on the draw. He is no where near Rogi's talent but he can always catch him on a bad day . I have that Madrid match on tape, he almost beat him but he choked in the second set serving for it. It's quite amazing that he came so close to beating the elite without a backhand. So maybe if he can learn to topspin a backhand with some power, maybe he can get himself an even better chance next time. The only good thing about Feli playing against Rogi is that he isn't intimidated by the silky-smooth Rogi. He lost in 3 tight set the last 2 times, so I think he still believe he can beat him one day. That's important.

Feli was definitely playing well in Madrid and he is not at all intimidated by Rogi or playing in his first final, as in Dubai. He's quite calm and reserved and fairly unemotional, which helps him. He could easily get down on himself. When his serve is working, watch out! Feli's not my fave Spaniard by any means, but it's good to see him starting to progress -- he will beat Rogi one day and Rogi knows he's a dangerous player. Have we seen Feli play Juanqui? It's just so weird that the same players play each other so many times... what about Pandy and Lleyton -- have they played each other lately?? Why does Juanqui always seem to face Lleyton, esp in a final? The luck of the draw...

lol. If they only meet in the final, then the draw isn't so bad.
Feli never play Juanqui in the tour. But since they are spaniards, must have met each other in junior or maybe the spanish-only tournament like the Spanish Championship called something like gold sth, forgot the name.

My original list well it might need some tweaking, especially since Agustin Calleri beats Agassi and these American commentators think he is the bees-kness after that performance.
Mantilla Zabaleta Squillari Koubek Vinciguerra Di Pasquale Calleri Vicente Rosset Andreev Gaudio Yves Allegro

I may have to revive this and make it my Mahut lust thread. Then someday I can look back on it and laugh.

I know that you're all patiently awaiting Mahut news! Never fear, I am here. He plays some dude in the quarters of Nottingham. The field consists of Baghdatis in the top half, Mahut in the bottom half, and then some British dudes and a qualifer. I demand that these nameless folk in the draw just retire because I could not care less about them.

Oh, Mahut was also in doubles. He played with some dude and they lost in the first round. Clearly because of the dude! However, because it is just doubles, which will soon be dead, we don't get too upset about this,

It occurs to me that this is totally spoiling the nature of this thread, where these men should be celebrated.
Hm.
I know! I'll just rename the thread!

So Mahut was defaulted for his semifinal for accidentally sacking a linesperson. Like, holy shit, dude. Get a grip next time

Interesting bit from some New Jersey sports web site:
3. Where does Donald Young go from here?
Hopefully up. Young, a 20-year-old from Atlanta, was once a hot prospect ranked in the ATP Top 100. But he fell down in the rankings and continued the spiral, losing Monday to Spaniard Tommy Robredo in the first round. The USTA, he said, recently sent him a letter requesting him to report to either Florida or California for training in the offseason, but Young said he feels uncomfortable leaving behind his parents, who also coach him.
So I guess he goes nowhere from here. Leave the nest, Donald; you're a big boy now.

Managing to qualify in the first place was a minor step back UP, I thought.

There are a lot of players out there for whom just qualifying for a Slam is a huge deal -- I know, because I'm a fan of most of them -- and it's fine that Young is one of them. But he was never supposed to be one of those players; he was supposed to be contending in the big stadiums in the late rounds. So, okay, it turned out that he was nauseatingly over-hyped and his real potential is much more modest than first supposed. But forget that; why not try now to at least maximize what he could be by leaving the parental nest and going outside for some fresh input? He's 20 years old, not 16. You know, you could phone them every day, Donald. And you could always *GO BACK HOME* if things didn't work out! But if the USTA is offering training, what would it hurt to try?

I still think Donnster has a lot of potential. He has ball sight and shotmaking skills that only the elite have. The main problem has been that he's not powerful enough. Maybe that can still come over time, and he's a late bloomer.
It's clear that the road of taking 1000 WCs and getting his ass kicked every US tourney has hurt him. He doesn't appear to enjoy being on court, whatsoever. So, I don't know what's best for him. And I don't think the USTA have had his best interests in mind.

No, they haven't. Nobody has; everyone only saw dollar signs. But maybe the USTA is trying to make up for that now. He should take every opportunity that's offered -- that is, if he still wants to try to have a long, solid tennis career. But if he's looking that unhappy on court, maybe the joy of the game has been drained out of him. Or maybe he's just completely confused right now, like Ivanovic.
