I see that Guga has not announced an end to his boycott - I guess he is waiting to see the results of the elections. Nastás promised to leave office in mid-year and than he stayed. He's still trying to pull strings here even he's removed from office. It's reasonable that Guga will wait until a trustworthy president firmly in charge before he commits to DC again.

Well, Guga is satisfied and the boycott is over! I also read that Guga has been in the top 40 ever since his RG win in 1997 -- the only player who has had a longer uninterrupted stay in the top 40 is Henman. I guess the trick to long-term consistency is to be really really thin.

Unfortunately, with his hip injury this year, he's out of top 40 and won't be back until TMS Miami.

Apparently discussions are under way between the players and the new CBT leadership as to the next DC captain. Meligeni is being mentioned, as is Larri Passos.

I think Meligeni is a good choice. He's well respected by other players and FUN.
On principal, I don't like coaches to any ATP level players to be DC coaches so I'm not warm towards Larri.

Guga's returning to the tour is further delayed. He will not return in March for the TMS event in US but in April. Not sure which clay court event marks his return.

Of course. ;D
By the way I am happy he's not playing his comeback tournament on hard -- clay is easier on the body.

Apparently Larri has been offered the captaincy and will give his answer on Monday. He wants more money for tennis program from CBT before he commits as coach. ;D He's great in bargaining.

Escucha las declaraciones de Gustavo Kuerten. www.atptennis.com/es/newsandscores/news/2005/sauipe_kuerten.aspLee, check out Spanish ATP site for Guga's interviews in Spanish AND English. His 1st tourney back is Valencia, as you probably already know. See above for other tourneys. Nice for Valencia to have Guga play there

I'm not sure whether everyone on this board know about this already so I just post it.
Guga has part with Larri after 15 years. He wants to be on his own with no coach.

"Even though we no longer have a professional relationship, the affection and friendship between us will always exist, because Larri is like a father to me."
-- G. Kuerten
"We had 15 wonderful years together. Tenis is like a religion to me and I will continue to worth in competitive tennis. I accept Guga's decision and I think he is mature enough to follow his own path."
-- L. Passos

Larri has gotten a bit full of himself. Yesterday he claimed that he was the best tennis coach in the world, and that the Argentines are doing so well because they copied his methods. He said there are some young French players he would like to coach, and that his dream is to coach a Frenchman to the RG title.

"I examined Guga on Tuesday and he is doing very well. You will be surprised at how strong he is. He is already playing sets and is on course for his return." -- Dr Rogério Teixeira By the way, the name of the guy Guga is working with at the moment in Florianopolis is Marcelo Rebello, known as "Cascatinha" or "Cascata" (God knows why). He is a former player and a friend of Guga's from their junior days. The word on the street is that Cascatinha will not accompany Guga on the tour as a practice partner, and that Guga will simply hit with other players who are at the tournaments. His "entourage" will be his girl friend Letícia, his brother/manager Rafael, his physical trainer Edmílson and his lovely and talented physio Mariângela Lima. A lot of the logistical stuff that Larri used to take care of will now be performed by Rafael. All this from Estado.com - www.estadao.com.br/esportes/tenis/noticias/2005/mar/15/175.htm

Thanks for the news, Brinyi! So Guga replace Larri with Letícia. Left your mom's house and removed your surrogate dad in your professional life, gets on with your girlfriend of almost 3 years , Guga finally comes to age
