He says he's surprised at how he played and he felt bery good -- his game was coming out naturally as if he had already played some matches. On the physical side he had some problems moving quickly and felt fatigued in the second set. He was happy to be back and played relaxed for that reason. The important thing is to totally recover on the physical side, and that's not going to happen from one week to the next.
Even though he's still lacking a lot, he thinks that eventually it's possible to be one of the best again.

You're welcome Lee! I hope he gets his movement back soon. It was painful watching him move like he did after the first operation.

Guga will play Beto MartÃn, who will probably make him play a lot of balls.

Apparently Guga and F.Gonzalez are playing a street tennis exhibition this evening in beautiful downtown Valencia.

Guga apparently hit with Nadal yesterday. The Brazilian article presented this as Guga hitting with his "King Of Clay" successor. Guga said that Raffy wished him luck in his recovery, and they talked about the problems Raff had last year getting his rhythm back after his foot injury. Apparently Rafa was impressed with Guga's performance in his first match back.

Well, as Brinyi has asked me so nicely to give my impressions over Guga's match, I'm gonna try to express them. But let me tell you that I'm no specialist when it comes to a deep analysis of a match.
When both players entered the court, I was thinking that this match was gonna be interesting to watch, because Guga being finally back to the tour, and finally on his favourite surface, it couldn't be other way. And clay isn't really Ancic's cup of tea. But when the match began, I immediately felt that Guga wasn't back. What I mean is that he couldn't express his game the way we knew it. The backhand was quite unefficient during the 1st set. Many errors, gifts for Ancic. That lattest one didn't need to force much to win that set. The 2nd set was rather different, Guga had several shots which made us think he was coming back. I say "we" because commentators had the same feeling. But Ancic took his chances, highed the level of his game when Guga was showing good shots and it totally brought him down. He showed frustration on the court, when he saw he couldn't play his game. And also because when he was trying to play it, he was unsuccessfull. He even smiled, making fun of his game sometimes. So the result is a well deserved victory for Mario. No need to have regrets over Guga's performance because he needs time to come back. He is rusty and his game today has been the expression of it. It's been a pleasure to see him again, on clay, after such a long time out of the tour. Even if the result isn't there...Just leave him time.

Many thanks, Choupi! And your observations are good -- the discipline of patience can be torture sometimes, though. I read that he said that finishing a relatively tough match pain-free was a victory in itself. Fine, but I don't want to hear him saying that forever!

Thanks for the report, Choupi!
Brinyi, give Guga a little bit more time. If I read the same post match interview after RG, I will not be impressed.

Summary to date, based on Eurosport reports:
Tim breaks for 2-0 with some big returns.
Guga breaks back immediately on "a fantastic return followed by a trademark Kuerten backhand."
"Henman starts to take command against Kuerten, with a thunderous winner and a cross volley at the net giving him three break points. Kuerten saves the first with a beautiful drop shot and then saves another with a cross court forehand winner, but a wide forehand on the third break point gives Henman the all-important break. Henman will now serve for the first set. 5-3"
Bah.

I've seen the match and what I can tell you is that he's improved his game since I last saw him in Monte Carlo vs Ancic. He moves better and faster and the backhand is finally back into action! I haven't seen him frustrated like he was against Mario. But he kept on talking to himself, between almost every point. Sign that he needs to gain in confidence. Gumy was here, totally gorgeous, as always, ;D and very supportive. He made the right tactic choices. What he lacks now is precision. And Tim has really played great too...

Well, based on what the commentators said and on what I could witness myself, I think it's more sthg like a good advice relationship...than an official working together.
