• Falls don't fell Plushenko, Weir — Russian Evgeni Plushenko, the three-time world champion, and American Johnny Weir fell in the men's short program, but occupied the top two positions at the Cup of Russia in Moscow. Olympic silver medalist and 2002 world champion Irina Slutskaya presented an almost flawless program to take the lead in the women's event with Italian Carolina Kostner second.

Plushy won the long program and had a fairly large overall lead:
1 Evgeni PLUSHENKO RUS 233.45 1 1 2 Johnny WEIR USA 207.99 2 2 3 Min ZHANG CHN 186.04 6 3 4 Shawn SAWYER CAN 176.74 3 4 5 Evan LYSACEK USA 172.45 4 6 6 Andrei LEZIN RUS 167.75 7 5 7 Andrei GRIAZEV RUS 166.56 5 8 8 Sergei DAVYDOV BLR 158.85 9 7 9 Anton KOVALEVSKI UKR 146.11 10 9 10 Aidas REKLYS LTU 127.03 11 10
Weir, Joubert, Buttle, Sandhu, Jahnke, and Li will be going to the Grand Prix final in China. Plushy will skate in some cheese fest next week in the USA with Brian and a few others. I'll post details about results as they come up.

Just for comparison sake, here are the final scores broken down into technical elements vs the other stuff Standings by TES: 1 Evgeni PLUSHENKO RUS 76.50 2 Min ZHANG CHN 64.86 3 Andrei LEZIN RUS 60.18 4 Johnny WEIR USA 57.54 5 Sergei DAVYDOV BLR 54.30 6 Evan LYSACEK USA 51.90 7 Shawn SAWYER CAN 51.72 8 Anton KOVALEVSKI UKR 50.46 9 Andrei GRIAZEV RUS 44.20 10 Aidas REKLYS LTU 38.34 Standings by PCS: 1 Evgeni PLUSHENKO RUS 82.00 2 Johnny WEIR USA 79.20 3 Shawn SAWYER CAN 62.70 4 Andrei GRIAZEV RUS 61.50 5 Evan LYSACEK USA 60.60 6 Min ZHANG CHN 59.70 7 Sergei DAVYDOV BLR 54.00 8 Andrei LEZIN RUS 52.40 9 Anton KOVALEVSKI UKR 48.40 10 Aidas REKLYS LTU 47.00 So while Johnny is quite close to Plush in the "other stuff", he needs to beef up the difficulty of his jumps and blah if he wantst to compete with him. Brian, of course, has the opposite problem

ESPN has tape-delayed coverage of the GP series. They are showing Paris this week, Russia next week, and the final shebang on Dec 27. Can someone point me to a good website with an overvew of all the jumps/throws/lifts and scoring stuff? Thanks

I imagine that the international figure skating blah has it somewhere, but I've never actually looked at their site before. I'll do some investigating ;D

Thanks ;D Of course, this could be something that you think would be really obvious and online in a zillion places, but then it isn't, which is always frustrating.

I found a great site that explains all the jumps/spins/etc, complete with video ;D I know nothing about skating, so it was a novelty Definitely helps my efforts at writing a short story, too www.sk8stuff2.com/m_recognize.htm

My mistake, I thought that you wanted information on the code of points ;D I do, I do. But I have to start with the basics. I just know that a jump is different from a spin, not what the different jumps and spins are :red:

I don't really know the differences either ;D I know what a sit spin vs a camel spin are, but don't ask me to distinguish between anything else As for the jumps... I know what a toe is and what an axel is. The rest I couldn't tell you, aside from the fact that they take off on different edges.

Scroll down to Trophée Eric Bompard 2004 for pictures of Joubert and his ugly costumes: perso.wanadoo.fr/brian-joubert/photos2004-2005.htm ;D The cheesy grin "look at me I'm 12" face shots that come before that i can do without ;D Why am I sharing this link? Nobody else here likes him. Oh well. It's here for future reference if I need to point to his ugly costumes. Not only are they ugly but they leave absolutely nothing :red: to the imagination

That's the only difference I can see, which edge you take off/land on. All that hoopla over just that The spins are cool. I never knew what all the different names were, but just having someone describe it is more confusing than having a picture. The same with the various lifts in pairs skating (which is what I'm really interested in).

Well I find costumers in general in the figure skating world have horrid taste, so he's no different I haven't seen him skate. Will he be at the GP finals? That's the next time I'll be in front of a TV when coverage is on.

Unless he skips it, he'll be there. Unfortunately his long program is kind of suck. His matrix program from last year was much better.

I only know if they mess up very obviously ;D I like watching the pairs because its more obvious when they have problems...and they have more of a chance for a horrific accident. Cool Hopefully my favorite Russian ice dancers will also be there They won the Cup of Russia and I'm pissed that I won't get to see the coverage 'Risque' Slavanov and partner have qualified in the pairs.

If you aren't adverse to file sharing and have the room on your computer, you can download a nifty little program called "rinkside" and download programs from other users. They usually have new programs up just a day after they've been aired. I've seen many of Brian's performances that were many years old. They were terrible Progress is key!

PAIRS Short Program Warm-Up Group 1 1 Rena INOUE / John BALDWIN, jr. USA 2 Julia OBERTAS / Sergei SLAVNOV RUS3 Qing PANG / Jian TONG CHN YES!!! Finally, I'll get to see my cute little Russian. And the original cute Russian! Woohoo, ESPN better not fuck us on the coverage. LOL, I don't mind. The coverage itself is heavily edited, but at least we get to see a lot of the people in each discipline.
