You're only tape delayed a day One of the women pulled out of the event because on her way there with her parents and coach there was an accident and her mother died I can't remember her name, I'll look it up later.

Oh shit! I'm really sorry. You were waiting for me to respond but I didn't read this thread again until today. I was actually avoiding it in case you had posted results. But in the future, don't worry about that. Post whatever. If I read results before watching it, then that's my fault. Do you get any coverage of this event, Rebecca? We get live coverage of the men's and ice dance (?) long programs in an hour and a half, I believe. Should be exciting between Goebel and Weir, and I hope Johnny wins because he's much more exciting to me. I love that short program that he did this week and also in Grand Pris Paris. He always makes his choreography relate to the music. I feel horrible for that female skater who lost her mom in that accident! I forget her name as well but apparently her and Goebel are close friends so he was having a difficult time emotionally the last few days and even burst into tears immediately upon concluding his short program, which he actually nailed for the most part. Plus the cameras were all over him during practice and stuff when he was crying - give the man some privacy! So, Kwan in first again with Cohen behind again. I don't expect a change in that order tonight after the free dance but it would be nice to see Sasha skate a perfectly clean performance for once. Should be exciting! I saw a lot of new young girls in the short program. Two 15 year olds! It's scary to think that anyone could be doing something professionally at such a young age. One of them is a freshman in high school and they were saying how she wakes at 3:45 AM and goes to bed at 8 PM every day, and all she does is work on school and skating, no time for a social life. Meissner was pretty impressive and I think she's currently in 4th place. And I also liked Beatrica Liang, besides her questionable choice of the Harry Potter theme as her music. And they even showed Sarah Hughes' sister performing... they definitely look alike. Plus there was a 12 year old in the pairs! Yikes.

As did my tape! I thought I had enough time left on it for the coverage tonight but ABC fucked it up by re-playing the women's short programs before the live stuff. So it ran out during Cohen's LP right after she falled on her ass... hopefully she didn't do that again! But she also touched the ice on a previous landing so it wasn't looking pretty. And I missed Kwan's, and I assumed that she won. Thankfully ESPN re-plays it tomorrow.
Weir kicked some butt. Whoo! And six 6.0's throughout the competition. Predictably, this being their last year with the old scoring system, they've given out more perfect 6.0's in this competition than ever before by a large margin.
I hate that guy Dick Button! Year after year we have to put up with his annoying commentary and he clearly doesn't know anything useful. I especially loved the comment this week that if you can't land all your jumps in the pressure of competition every time, you shouldn't bother competing at all. Okay then, go home Sasha. Silvers suck.

Kwan was good enough, but a little flat, imo. It wasn't her best, and she was a little annoyed with herself immediately afterwards. Dick Button :lmao: I love how he comments on the skaters bodies. It's so very creepy, but his comments are probably totally innocent.

Hey, look! I said "falled." Go me. ;D Apparently Meissner is only the second American woman to complete a triple axel in competition after Tonya Harding 13 years ago (and it happened to take place in Harding's home town). I never knew that jump was that hard. But it's not like Kwan or Cohen or others go after the hard jumps anyway. Yeah, that's usually true of Cohen. Great program for the most part, but a couple technical mistakes make it less enjoyable. Worlds will be a better test for Kwan to see where she is in comparison to the rest of the field with the Olympics soon to come. Yes, according to Dick, Weir is a greyhound, Meissner is a hummingbird, and Kirk is a cool blonde who would keep good company with Alfred Hitchcock. It's too bad that Belbin and Agosto won't be able to make the Olympics because of her citizenship problems. They're one of the few ice dance teams around the world actually worth watching.

I like Belbin and Agosto. I wanted to hate them because they are so freaking perky and hyped up. But, they are soo cute and perky, and I couldn't hate them no matter how hard I tried.
Did I already post something along that lines? Whatever.

Yes, I agree. The first time I saw Belbin and Agosto I thought they were too happy and smiley but they've grown on me. Especially after watching the US Nationals and seeing how much the rest of the American ice dance teams suck. By the end of most of their performances, they were moving like turtles. But B&A, like the best teams from around the world, keep great speed throughout. Plus, they got 6.0's across the board for presentation marks in the free dance!

That's great news! Who besides Sandhu posed a threat to him? I don't know the Canadian players too well. Players Last year, Jeff splatted a lot and only came third, behind Sandhu and Ben "not Wayne" Ferreira. But, if they skate clean, Sandhu and Buttle are by far our best two. However, this is Buttle's first canadian title.

Because he's sooooooo hot. I know that I'd give him bonus points if I was a judge. Surely they see his ass and think "good for the sport" and throw some extra points on. It's only right ;D

But he's still hoooottt. His ass of steel is better than Lambiels Lambiel is cute in a puppy dog sort of way though. Plushy could still, and probably will win the long program.

The women haven't started yet, so I'll just talk about the men. I don't know who you know? The US sent Evan Lykaas....I can never spell his name right. He did "singing in the rain" at the US Nats. Weir and Goebel. The Swiss sent Lambiel, of course. I guess they probably got to send somebody else too, but I don't know of the lower ranked skaters. Lambiel rules, btw. France sent Joubert, Dambier, and some other guy. Canada sent Cantdhu and Buttle. Russia sent Plushy, Gri...ugh, I forget his name. And some other guy. End.
