The only reason I'm not totally infuriated is that Simpson (like Bubba) have actually been two of the top performers over the last few years. These aren't fluke wins by any means.
But that is the ONLY saving grace.

I just wanted Smith Smithson to lose after thinking he should have ran away with the title. Dude, nobody knows who you are. Plus, I've had enough with Monday finishes.

True, no 18-hole playoff tomorrow to suffer through which in all likelihood would have ended the same way. That was nice too.

Oh, man. I'm so glad I went to bed instead of watching this play out. Poor Furyk! It's true that I never really trusted he could finish it, but to finish with two bogeys? So did Homer talk about Jesus specifically, like a Michael Chang?

Ha, good point. Who would watch a trophy ceremony of a player they don't like? Masochists, I guess.

Forgot this thing is coming here this year. That super-fancypants club is a few miles from my house. Maybe I'll run into Tigre at the grocery store.

The whole region is going so nuts about this event coming here. I'm not close to the ritzy area of that club -- not even sure if I've ever driven by it or seen it, maybe once? -- so it won't have any real-life effect on my little world, but it's hilarious to see how overboard the reaction to it has been, for at least a couple weeks now. You'd think the Olympics was coming to town.
Oh! And my sister has a ticket to attend on Thursday. So I'll be interested in hearing her behind-the-scenes report. Sadly, she refused my simple request to give Tigre a thumbs-down if she sees him.

Oh! You found a new place? Solo or with roommates?

I'm moving back in with one of my old roommates. So, the plan is to work at Firm until January. During this time, get my PhD/MFA apps done and dusted. Then spend 5 months doing really nothing. Then go wherever I got into school. If I don't get in anywhere, move someplace cheaper and get a lower-paying job I like. Then live and die. The End.

Oh! Well, that's great you have a target date for getting out of this job. Barely over 6 mos. to go. Will you be back in NoVa again, or still in Md?

I am switching back to NoVa. Such a pain - change my license, change my car registration, change my voter registration...all for maybe just one year. I'm dumb.
The job has finally gotten to the point where I am actually being taken advantage of. They push people to a breaking point and you either move up to management or you leave. I'm done.

janiehub is from NoVa. His Mom and a sister still live around there, in Reston and Leesburg. That whole region looks like one humongous mall + fancy housing development + continual traffic jam to me. I'm sure there are a few old buildings, even some old town centers buried somewhere among all that retail sprawl, but I've never seen them. We almost never get down there, though, which is terrible. ANYWAY. Anyone planning to watch this US Open, get ready to hear endlessly about Wicker Baskets Instead Of Flags!!1!!! Tradition!!!!! O Merion my Merion!! ( And unfortunately, on tap for tomorrow: Dangerous storms!1!/hail!!/possible tornadoes!!!! and, MUD. But it really is different, and it could end up being fun, at least after the storms depart. I love this: "The bells in the 81-year-old St. George's Episcopal Church 150 yards from the sixth green ring every 30 minutes. An earsplitting air horn blasts regularly from a commuter train stop near the 18th tee. A public street abuts the right side of the second hole." These guys are going to just love these real-life incursions into their world, I know. But it should be fun. It's definitely different; it's not isolated from the world. I'm looking forward to the first loud train passing nearby as someone prepares to putt.

My friends live out in Reston. We party there a lot. And by "party" I mean go to dinner and then everyone goes to bed.
Anyway, tomorrow, huh? Well I postponed my move until the end of the month so I will be able to watch while I rest/pack. Now that Adam won one, it's time for another one of my boys to step up. I'm hoping for Luke, Ian, or Sergio (LOL @ all three...but that's what I thought about Adam too).

First line of storms have gone through, long rain delay and then guys emptying water out of the sand traps with buckets -- yes, regular buckets. So now they're playing again, and they're not sure if another bunch of storms will come through or not. Adam Scott interview clip

I stopped watching just before that group started, so I don't know about their WAGs. Of course their late start didn't prevent the commentators from spending 50% of their time talking about Tiger. I guess once he started, it probably went up to 95%. When he turned up at the driving range they showed him there almost as much as the guys on the course. Of course, in addition to the MERION TRADITIONS/wicker baskets/Bobby Jones and Ben Hogan hagiography, we also got to hear about Phil missing days of practice due to attending his daughter's 8th-grade graduation in California on Wednesday, his red-eye (private plane) flight to arrive in the nick of time, etc. I actually liked that story, though. But I'm glad that when I was a kid, you only graduated from school ONCE, at the end of high school. No graduations from kindergarten, elementary school, middle school and God knows what else; probably Little League and soccer teams have solemn ceremonies now. #geezergrouse

I didn't have an 8th grade ceremony either, I was wondering about that.
Another USO where the course plays ridiculously difficult due to overly long rough and extreme length, yawn.

But I haven't been watching today; maybe later. Now I'm worried that Adam Scott might miss the cut.

Anything is better than ESPN and Chris Berman announcing golf.
Fat Phil has a chance to pull away with a decent round tonight, sigh. And the winds will die down.

I'm sure that won't happen, or even if it miraculously did, Phil would blow it tomorrow or on Sunday. I wish he would win, even though no one here, and no one in my family, likes him except me. Well, my Dad, R.I.P., used to root for him solely because he was left-handed like my Dad was, but only I actually like the dopey guy.

At least Phil didn't win today. He can do the usual screwup on the weekend.
I'm pulling for Luke to win. He got the worse half of the weather too, so I think he will.
