Looks like Lindsay will threaten for a top 30 spot.

have a feeling.
This time next year
Vania King
will be #1 in the United States.
Weird times for women's tennis.

Why the hell did Schiavone go up 3 places?
And Jank is at a career-high right now! She really has a chance to push into top 10 at the beginning of next season.

Serena has already moved up 63 spots to #18, thanks to the adjusted ranking system that's more similar to the men.
A win in the final, and she's #14.

No change to the top ten, despite Petrova's title.
There may be some changes afoot though. Mauresmo, Clijsters, Kuznetsova, Hingis and Petrova (#3-7)are a mere 547 points apart. Amelie's withdrawal from Antwerp will cost her 195 pts and she also has a QF and an F in Dubai and Doha to defend pretty soon which amount to about the same # of points. She's spent a long time in the top three or four and that may be coming to close soon.

And the Saf has risen #32-26, equalling her career high.
I guess Lindsay isn't going to ask to be removed from the rankings?
Bammer #61-47. Good for Sybille.
Pin #75-70! Yay!

i don't think amelie is withdrawn from Antwerp lol, ok. I was kinda guessing. I meant to factcheck that but I got distracted. Let's just call it a prediction then.

Amelie shouldn't drop from the Top 5 anytime soon... remember that she only played Berlin and RG in clay season, and didn't do that well in either. After Wimbly, that may be a different story, though. Safarova is 8th in the race. I think she can keep that up, too.

The Madrid final is saving her. Takeaway that, and she would get outside the Top 5.
Another reason I hate year-end championships.

The only two titles Amelie is currently holding are Antwerp and Wimbledon True. She missed a lot of time on clay last year which is where she usually gets her titles.

Amelie still holds Antwerp. Obziler, she of the 33 years and 10 months, now holds a top 100 ranking, I believe for the first time. She's #96, a new career high, after her semifinal in Bangalore. That's nice to see ... she's a really gritty player who has been able to keep players like JH out on court for a while. Kostanic Tostitos has now dropped to #100 from #78. Molik #97-90. Shvedova marks her first title with a #143-78 rise! Otherwise, nobody in the top 100 really went anywhere. Golovin was up two spots to #18 and Chak marks her top ten debut (I think). Benesova at #99 is sucking ... what happened to her!

Why do the rankings show Serena's played eight tournaments when viewing her activity only indicates five (Cincinatti, Los Angeles, US Open, Hobart, Australian Open)?

Although, once I thought about it, I realized that had to be it. Not sure they should count it on the 'tournaments played' section on the rankings though ...

Jank replaces Chak in the top ten. Peer rises one spot to #16 with her Memphis RUP. Vera is back in the top 20. Garbin's Bogota RUP has her up to spots to #27 (!). Venus rises #54-38. Dreadful. Vinci is basically back from her meltdown last year which had her finishing '06 out of the top 100. The title in Bogota, her first, moves her from #64-43. Well done, Roberta. She's very close again to her career-high of #37, achieved about a year prior. Tu #70-56. I like Meilen. She beats the young hotshots quite often. LDL drops #51-64. Sad face. Pretty good title defense anyway, though. Molik #90-74.

Tax Garbin is at her career-high, at age 29. I can't quite get used to the idea of Tax seeded at a Slam. But then, those lower seed spots always are full of surprises, aren't they. Alicia, wow, nice jump.

Kuznetsova switches with Clijsters, moving to #4. Jank passes Vaid for #9. Groenefeld goes #21-25. Loit #52-43. Molik #74-66. K-Bond #131-94. Benesova exits the top 100! Why does she blow now ... Emma Laine #96-113. I hear she blows?

An interesting note: Serena has been idle for over a month and will be for at least another week and a half, yet she still leads the Race. Roar! And who is #2? Why, everybody's favorite Paper #1, Hingis.

Loading up on points early in the year and coasting post-RG? She did it last year too. Some things never change.
