I'm glad Isner won a set.
But, he's really going to have to play smarter if he's gonna have a career on tour.
That serve isn't at the Karlovic level where he'll survive simply with that.

ooh tiebreak I just wanted to use that smiley The serving in this match is horrendous. 1st serves are in the 90's, 2nd serves are in the 70's and 80's I thought Tamira was a basher...maybe she's injured or something edit: Tamira wins I actually really like Patty...but she needed to be sacrificed to serve the interests of further fucking up the draw

What a day! And I got to see the whole 2 minutes of it! (I'm not counting Haas.)
I guess it would be a bit too much to ask for AIMG's and Shahar's wins now.

since Maria's out, does anyone think they will put three men's matches for the day session Monday? I was thinking that also... Although, Chak/Tits and Sweta/Azza are passable 11am matches on Ashe.

Wow, what an insane and wonderful day.
These days, even when I fully expect terrible Hingis losses...she somehow makes them even worse. I thought Azarenka would win like 3 and 4, and it would have been horrid, and we would have wrung our hands. But a BAGEL AND A BREADSTICK after winning the first set??? That's...is this worse than the pair of Hanturexia losses earlier in the year? I think it might be.
One of Szavay, Tits Paszek or Radwanska in the final would be glorious. I'd take Anna C though. Vaidisova needs to be dealt with ASAP, I am fretting that a big run for her is looming.

This is actually really odd, b/c my natural pessimism re: my favourite players meant that I've been assuming that Aga won't pan out as an elite player. But...she might, now!

Nice comeback, Shahar! 03 to 64; not bad! I suppose Kuz is totally indifferent to Maria's loss today, as Shahar and Nicole both claimed to be. Of course, it's true that Maria's loss won't matter one bit, pretty soon, to ONE of these ladies. Murray down 2 sets now!

wtf Vaidisova. She should, for all intents and purposes, be a top 5 player already. She does everything as well as the elite players and should've won at least one of those big matches where she had huge leads and lost. If her mind wouldn't go walkabout at odd times, she'd easily be ranked in the top 10 despite playing so little. It's confounding.

It IS confounding! I'm confounded. But we can't judge by tonight; she's been out too long, and she's too erratic, too many errors and choking spells. Tonight it will be a matter of who chokes last. I think Shahar will be the one to cave.

Day 6.
Sept 1, 2007 20:01:19 GMT -5
Post by corswandt on Sept 1, 2007 20:01:19 GMT -5
Corswandt is eerily right about Sharapova and Vaidisova never, ever playing each other .... spooky! It's meant to remain as a statistical oddity that people would find weird 10 years from now if Vaidisova wasn't completely forgotten by then. Since there's a chance that Fat Dave will finally play Nudd-Ahl at this USO (go Daveed!), and Safin already got whomped played against Nadal at Montréal, Pova/Sova will probably be the last remaining "matchup that never was" at the end of this USO. Isner is nothing but a serving machine. Just because he's slightly less inept than Dr. Ivo doesn't mean he can play tennis. BH is club player level, volleys a laugh riot. I think people are willing to cut Isner some slack because they find him cute. But 10 more serving machines like Isner would destroy the ATP, so in a sense this is good. The Cult hates on players for the weirdest reasons, but hating on Paszek because she has a big rack sure takes the cake. She's a real talent, with the kind of natural ball striking skills we see once every 10 years. Azarenka flattening "Tina" - fun.

Most here still like Tits Paszek. I admire her lovely chest, personally. Her backhand is also a thing of beauty.
Isner is the new kid who came out of nowhere, so it's hard to hate him yet. Eventually, he'll just be ignored by everyone like Dr. Ivo is. Except for me, of course.
