Post by Wagasi on Sept 2, 2007 15:30:19 GMT -5
Venus' incredible court coverage seems to the difference against Ana. Ana can hit with Venus but can't cover the court with her. Williams is up a break at 4-3 in the first set. The difference is Ana's choking. Venus can't hit with Ana, not these days anyway. Ivanovic would be better served turning off her brain (why did she turn it on in the first place?!)

It only took about 2 games for Ana to lose all hope, and go to Plan B by coming to net and trying to move Venus around, which is not how you play the Sistahz, and straight sets loss will be coming... oh, women's tennis.
Ana, just keep hitting the forehand really hard. Anywhere. You're the better basher. You're the better server. You really are. Believe. Someone. Believe against them.

If Venus' second serve and forehand are solid she's the best player in the world. When her forehand is on it's a lethal weapon.

It only took one rally for that to happen, I think. The only longer one where Venus brought everything back and won the point. Against almost everyone else there would be a winner but not Venus and I think it got to Ana. But I still think she'd be better off actually getting in a rally with Venus. And stay away from the net.

I think Fit Dave is playing well enough to beat a hobbled Rafa... however, Fit/Fat will play for 5+ hours, fatigue ensues, fin. Good call. Saw the final games of the 4th and the 5th set. The Nalbandian/Nadal matchup is cursed - one point away from happening this time. And I think that Nalbandian would have a good shot at beating Rafa. Nadal vs Tsonga was unwatchable.

Did you guys see that Anna C. will play the night match tomorrow? From the hinterlands straight to the fire! I remember the year JH won this thing, they were keeping her on the 2/3 courts all the time, and she got her revenge by winning it all. I hope Chak can do the same, except lose the final to Justine.

It's as good as over. Why couldn't Jankovic get to play this match. Well, she probably will next! I'm quietly optimistic about that. Though yeah, Chak d. Venus in the final would be HILARIOUS. I'm so glad I didn't pay any attention to this pair of matches. I've only just noticed how disproportionately Latinate the men's bottom half is!

Justine played 5 of her 7 matches on Ashe that year, even with the shitty weather. The Obata match on Court 11 was bullpoop, but we all knew it would be a squash anyway. And the QF on Armstrong, too... but, that was when Myskina was the shitty Russian that USA laughed at for being overseeded.

cat, you've been buying into the hype, just like Ivanovic apparently. When everything of hers is perfect, Martina Sucha is the best player in the world too. I haven't bought into the hype. But when Venus plays well she is tremendous offensively and defensively. Once Ana realized Venus' length and phenomenol court coverage was a big problem for her she panicked and was routined. I'm all for Anna now. She's the best of the Russina's and seems ready for a grand slam breakthrough.

I agree, when Venus is in this form, forget it. Also, if Justine manages to reach the SF, Tracy just mentioned part of the reason JH lost to Bartoli at Wimbledon was that she was worrying about meeting V in the final, thanks to her (ancient) 1-7 record against her.
But even if Venus was not firmly lodged in Justine's head, when she's serving & moving the way she is, who has a chance?
