This occurs somewhere. Shanghai?
So far we have:
Roger FEDERER (SUI) Rafael NADAL (ESP) Novak DJOKOVIC (SRB) Nikolay DAVYDENKO (RUS) Andy RODDICK (USA) David "Pics" FERRER (FIT)
And I guess like eight zillion people have a chance to take the final two spots.

Fernando GONZALEZ (APE) has qualified.
The final spot will go to either Richard GASQUET (WUS) or Marcos BAGHDATIS (WHA).

I'm not really excited for this...
Kolya is massive blow, Andrew hasn't played since the Open, Fit's not playing great and he's really not a top player talent, Gorila only got here because of AO final a year ago, and Wuss goes without saying.
And mostly because Shanghai is the black hole of ever watching tennis live.
Let's just skip to the top 3 to decide this.
Then again, Blake made the final last year out of nowhere, so who knows.

The field is set:
Roger FEDERER (GOD) Rafael NADAL (ASS PIK) Novak DJOKOVIC (NOL) Nikolay DAVYDENKO (FIX) Andy RODDICK (DUK) David "Pics" FERRER (FIT) Fernando GONZALEZ (APE) Richard GASQUET (WUS)
Alternate: David NALBANDIAN (FAT)

"The alternate player will be David Nalbandian and he may well get in because American doubles specialist Bob Bryan was quoted last week as saying that Roddick was only “50-50” about playing because he is now focusing mainly on the Davis Cup final versus Russia in Portland, Oregon, from November 30 to December 2." Fat Dave's presence would make this event really interesting, unless he doesn't feel like playing. You'd then have the hot hand along with undisputed 1-2-3, fixers, apes, pics, wusses... oh my! Pardon the Enberg moment.

I predict Ferrer will prove to be a tough customer sort of the way Al Costa was when he was in the field and had to decide whether to tank to let Carlosh reach the semifinals. (or something like that).

The Bryans have withdrawn (M.Bryan elbow). They are replaced by Team Israel. Other teams: Nestor /Knowles Ullyett/Hanley Knowle/Aspelin Damm/Paes Clement/Llodra Dlouhy/Vizner Bjorkman /Mirnyi

If Fat plays, he's so going to win. Someone withdraw. Not Kolya, though.
Yay for the Jew team. They're so much fun to watch. And the doubles matches will be on TTC about 200 times the next month.

The doubles tournament is quite often much better than the singles competition.

Fat Dave's coach, Martín Jaite, is saying that he does not think Dave will go to Shanghai to be an alternate, unless somebody withdraws in the next few days and Dave is sure he will play. Robredo would be the next eligible alternate.

So...everyone's been busting a gut to get here for the past couple of months, and Fat Dave waltzes up at the last minute with two spectacular tournaments to grab the precious alternate spot, which if rumour is to be believed will be necessary...then turns it down because he's too lazy to haul his fat ass to Shanghai

The word on the street is that Nadal quit yesterday's practice early after tweaking a hammy, but is confident that he will be completely recovered for his treacherous opener against Wussquet.

Today's scores:
Nadal d. Gasquet in three Ferrer d. Djokovic in two
Then some doubles, which I think are still being played.

So Ferrer wins that group.

I wouldn't say it's a given that Ferrer will beat Nadal.
And you can't go on prior results with Wussy. Especially that Tokyo final.

Ferrer d. Djokovic in two That's only because his teeth are still bothering him and he's tired and has breathing issues and problems with contact lenses and his young body can't take the vigour of the ATP tour. But he will be #1 when he gets all his ailments sorted out. And Federer is a Ballbuster loves men!!1 :hearts: and Mirka is a fat cow.

what an asshole Roddick is, Davy who we all know is struggling with his serve and roddick says when he is serving in the third set "this serve is gonna be really fast", mocking him, just like the too big comment to misha. w@nker

So either Nadal or Djoko won't qualify? Unless, something really messed up happens. Hmmm...odd.
Go Nole, Dick, Kolya...and maybe, Gonzo if it's a dire cheering situation.

Gorila beats Fed. :s
Those tight matches that Roger won EVERY time in 05-06 have really turned around this year...
Kolya really sucked today. I now hope he goes 0-3, and RodDICK gets left out of the SF somehow.

Dick must NOT make the SF.

Gorila v Dickhead will probably decide the second SFist from that group now.

How old is Ullyett? He looks about 50! 35, the golden age for doubles players. They all look old.

Just 35! He's an old-looking 35, that's for sure. Paes has put on some weight, I see.

Ullyett is still really athletic and good, though.
And Hanley is scary good with his accuracy.
