China has someone good in every sport. Except basketball.
If the US didn't unfairly boost their medal count with the 100 events in swimming and track, it wouldn't be close.

We're in a great sports stretch now. This weekend had the PGA Championship. Right after the Olympics, the US Open.
Then September 13 comes and everything goes to hell.

Yay medal races in swimming I just watched some British girl beat Hoff, who wore a bitch face in defeat. At least I think it was a British girl. Now the men's 4 by 100 relay is on. Woooo.

That was awesome. Whoever anchors for the US made up a lot over ground over the last 50 meters.

France spouting their mouth off prior to the 4 by 100, and then losing it, brings back very fond track memories from Atlanta 1996.

Yay medal races in swimming I just watched some British girl beat Hoff, who wore a bitch face in defeat. At least I think it was a British girl. Now the men's 4 by 100 relay is on. Woooo. On NBC they told the story of how Manaudou, who won the race in '04, was boning an Italian, tried to become an Italian, was prevented from becoming an Italian by her rival Pellegrini, who now holds the world record, came back to France skeptically, broke up with her boyfriend WHO THEN STARTED BONING PELLEGRINI, and sucks this year. And then neither of them got a medal and Hoff got overtaken at the end by Random GBR. I love the Olympics.

I don't, but that's due to my rabid nationalism and Portugal never winning shit. I did watch most of the opening ceremony though. Funniest moment was when, after most teams had already marched into place, the cameras showed closeups of The Stars of Tennis: Rafael Nadal; Roger Federer; Andy Murray; Jarkko Nieminen

BTW local sports channel seems to agree with my assessment of "The Olympics". They have first choice of everything, so they broadcast football and tennis exclusively and leave all the shitty sports nobody cares about to public TV.
Portuguese athletes are getting less imaginative with their excuses. Last one went football coach and blamed the referees.

Yeah, team USA has done that before, too. But it's always funny, no matter who does it.

She's right. Hating the French is an anglophone thing. Rooting against US sports teams is a world thing. Yes, it's because we're totally envious that your teams always win everything and then gloat about it. Especially us Canadians. We made crappy beer commercials about it and everything.

US gloating to Canuckia is perfectly acceptable.

Really? You have ten times our population and 90% of your land isn't frozen. US gloating to Canuckia is kind of pathetic, really. Entertaining, but pathetic.
Regardless, good on the US gymnastics team for winning bronze. I always have appreciation for an underdog. Well, almost always.
A couple of my friends will fervently root against the USA whenever the chance arise, regardless of the competition. One of these friends and I discussed this while we were in Jeju, and my friend concluded that she was a bigot and I'd have to just accept that and let it go.

Handball isn't bad. Where has it been hiding?

Handball isn't bad. Where has it been hiding? In Europe and Middle East. And Korea. ;D They used to have an awesome women's team. Actually, they still have a chance to take a medal. The men are also good, but not as much. I've always wondered why handball is virtually unheard of across the pond. It's a fun sport.

It's a regional thing. 50+ miles away from the border doesn't care about Canada.

Only negative with handball is the amount of whistles and penalties. And allowing throwing in people's faces.
