Today should be better. Lots of medal races in swimming this morning. And tennis starts.

The Korean station is showing human interest stories in Korean, involving Koreans. This is utterly fascinating. South Koreans only, presumably? Yes. Talking about North Korea with South Koreans is kind of weird. A lot of students, when asked to draw a picture of Korea, will actually draw the whole thing without the division. This is strange.

I wonder if they root for the North Koreans if NK is up against, say, China, or the US, or anyone except South Korea?

Wow, high bar is so much fun to watch! For once I don't even care that it's not live.

I want the girl gymnasts to start, so I can root against all the USian barbies.

I'll only root against them if they have those squeaky voices that seem to be a byproduct of that sport.

you're right, it does sound like gonorrhea Why do they keep ruining the Olympic Experience for me by continually showing George Bush's foolish face?

He's going to win them all except the last relay. Unless some mishap occurs.

Guccione is really bad at tennis.
I'm sure I'll say it a thousand more times, but professional tennis really doesn't belong in the Olympics. The only sport worse is basketball with the lazy primadonna USians, and a bunch of Dokic-like lame defections.

I wonder if they root for the North Koreans if NK is up against, say, China, or the US, or anyone except South Korea? I might be mistaken, but I think they'd root for the NK's against anybody... but then it gets a little fuzzy against the SK's. I mean, there isn't any real animosity against NK, here. Which is really fucking weird when you consider that they're preparing for war at all times. But, you have to remember than a fuck load of SK's have family in NK. They're one in the same, really. So if NK and SK were facing off, they way they'd see it, I presume, is "woo, a Korean is going to win". But again... I might be mistaken with the above. It's difficult to breach the topic with folk here.

And a Korean wins 400 m freestyle. Congrats Becca! I didn't see that one happen, but I did see some Korean win judo, or whatever the heck it was. I was in a dinner/bar like place, which was packed. A lot of people have their wedding receptions there and blah. I was there for 18 bucks all you can eat and drink. Regardless, when it came on, the entire bar went quiet and all the Koreans glued to the screen and then flipped out when he won. This was bizarre to me. This only happens in Canada for hockey.

FUCKING TIME DIFFERENCES! I haven't seen a minute of these yet. There is...archery, and gymnastics on now? And weightlifting; I was talking in the pub about which current Olympic sport we'd get rid of if we could, and while I know it should be baseball or football or tennis, one of the sports which has bigger stages than this, I have to say that in terms of watchability, weightlifting is probably bottom of the list. Anyway, I have to write, and can't watch

Weightlifting isn't exactly the mot gripping of events, though I watched some earlier today. It was okay, as filler.
The time difference is fantastic for me on the weekend, when I can sit on my ass all day and just watch live events. During the week I'm going to miss it all, since I'll be working as events are live.

More George Bush coverage, this time on Sportscenter's "Olympic" coverage! Sheesh, give us a break. I think basketball is the sport that belongs in the Olympics the least. How is it a summer sport, anyway? I couldn't believe when I turned on the first Olympics show and had to watch an interview with Kobe Bryant. Isn't the 11 + 1/2 month NBA season enough Kobe for the world? Or basketball could be in, with amateurs only, but that can never happen. Congrats to Dara Torres! Giving geezerettes a good name. Maybe if we all had the luxury of "a coach, a sprint coach, a strength-and-conditioning coach, two full-time stretchers, a masseuse and a nanny, in addition to Tessa’s father, David Hoffman", geezerettes might be able to compete in more sports.

There's no reason to watch ESPN for the next 2 weeks, unless you like creepy little league and horrible sports journalism. Ignore them with glee.
I'm enjoying watching all these sports online I've never seen before. Handball is awesome. Judo, too. Fencing is also fun, except for the Sabre.
Basketball was actually good with amateurs. I still enjoy watching the other countries, though.

I wonder if NBC has some say in the medal swimming races being at 10am in Beijing.
Those air pistol and rifle ones are like video games. They even have a monitor near them for some reason.

If these Chinese gymnasts are 16, then I'm 29. Like it's so hard for China to produce fake passports for them? Please don't insult us. I hope they won't win the team gold with these preteen midgets. More diving, please!!!
