Time zones kill it here. 12-15 hour difference. And NBC will show everything on a huge delay.

Yeah, I fear the incompetence of our national TV too. The coverage of the Athens Olympics was catastrophic - totally unlike Atlanta or Sydney when it was good, although the time zones were an issue then. And the best bit was when they sent a number of local "celebrities" to Greece to cheer on our athletes and do...something. Nobody was sure what the whole thing was about actually. Unsurprisingly, they spent most of the time boozing and fucking, and people weren't so thrilled to find out that that's where our tax money went to.
Fortunately, there's Eurosport, but I expect them to focus on archery, women's weightlifting and such.

Paul Hamm is out of the Olympics - broken hand or finger or something. Hurley had an inexplicable, icky crush on him during the last olympics. It was very confusing.

Sort of. You fought yourself over it, but it was there. It was sort of like every time I admit one of my Real Life crushes to one of my friends. They respond with "uh, him? Really?" And I say, "Yeah. I know. Ew."

But he is a member of the Lollipop Guild!
Anyway. This is sad news for a work-related reason that I can't discuss until August 16th.

The other Hamm might have to sit out due to taking medimication of some sort, no?

Yes. He didn't get permission signed to take it before he did. It's like 5th grade!

Eww. Gymnasts creep me out. Jordan Jovtchev Of course, all gymnasts are midgets so it's not really noticeable on TV that he's probably 20 cm shorter than me, but we'll disregard that little detail.

Yay. But more than half the team still doesn't get to go as a result of this fiasco, which I blame both the Iraqi government and the IOC for. But I go easier on the Iraqi government; something would be seriously wrong if it wasn't totally fucked up over there. The IOC is lacking in excuses of the same quality.

Soooo excited to watch the opening ceremonies! I finish work just before 8 tomorrow, I believe, so I will get home before they start at 9. I believe I'm behind Beijing by one hour, so that works. Perhaps I ought to confirm that my timezones are clicking on that one.

Or, you know, maybe I'll actually watch the ceremonies on the 8th, when they're actually being held, rather than tomorrow

I don't get it.
Regardless, I expect nothing short of absolutely epic awesomeness from these opening ceremonies. China is trying soooooo hard with these olympics to "prove" that they are fantastic (actually, I think they're trying to prove "superiority", but I'll save my China dogging for another day), that anything short of Totally Fucking Unbelievable will be a complete failure.

Gonzo and Federer will be holding flags for Chile Land and Swiss Land.
Schuettler and the German federation have broken the rules to get Schuettler in, instead of Gremelmayr, but nobody particularly cares except for the ITF. And possibly Gremelmayr's mom.
