Rafa has arrived in Beijing. I know this, because CNN decided that I absolutely had to know. So much so, that they spent more time showing Rafa weaving through photographers in the airport than they did highlights of the Cincy final.

apart from the fact that I'm totally opposed to China having the olympics in the first place, I don't think I'm going to bother with the track & field, the things I liked the best from Athens were beach volleyball, table tennis, badminton, maybe a bit of equestrian. Also the beeb will probabaly show blnket coverage of the diving as we have our 14 year old hope. I find it disturbing to see abs on a 14 year old.

Most people that have abs are 14.
I also enjoy the table tennis. Especially with some good defenders.

One day away! Cha-cha-cha! One day away! Cha-cha-cha!
I watched some of the torch relay around China last night and got all choked up. It was special.

Lopez Lomong will carry the US Flag. Some kids on wtaworld are whining that he shouldn't have been chosen because he wasn't born in the USA and only recently became a citizen. Presumably these kids never had any immigrants in their lineage. Idiots. Regardless, a great choice, I think.

I don't care if the carrier is non-USian born.
But there's a time to bring up China aiding Sudanese governments, and the Olympic opening ceremony is not the time.

I'm stuck with the choppy feed in Spanish for now.
Why are the countries appearing in some random order.

The order was based on the number of strokes in the first Chinese character of the country's name. Then the second, if the first character contained the same number of strokes.
I hope they light the torch soon. I'm ready to go buy icecream and call student loans.

I hope NBC has good online coverage. Although, it's fun using Asian proxies to steal their content.
I'm already assuming the TV coverage will be filled with 95% human interest junk.

I like reading about crappy human interest stories, but it shouldn't clutter up the TV schedules. I want SPORT.

Stream at nbcolympics.com is quite good, even on my shitty connection. No announcers, but I enjoy that. Of course, the first event is the exciting dressage where horses walk in a box.

LOL, Eurosport is showing women's weightlifting, as predicted. Thankfully there's a women's volleyball match between Italy and Russia on another channel.
It's started! Yay!

Fencing chicks are as bad as de Brito and Sharapova. They scream after every point for like no reason. Sabre sucks too, it's over in like a second.
Badminton rox.

The tennis players got the most coverage on NBC tonight. They showed Rafa for about 8 minutes. My friend was "sick of seeing his busted face."

The Korean station is showing human interest stories in Korean, involving Koreans. This is utterly fascinating.

I'm sorry I missed that fencing, despite that screaming, which would have caught me off-guard. Maybe they're trying to sound like Bruce Lee? Anyway I just had a great sword fight this morning with my niece's 8-year-old son and I would have liked to compare our technique to that of the Olympians. But my sword being made of foam made it hard to get a lot of good thrusting in; kid had a distinct advantage with his hard plastic one.

Becca wins a bronze! I noticed that too. We had a surprisingly varied coverage on day 1, hopefully it will continue like that. Although, it mostly consisted of team sports and they usually suck before the QF.
