strangely, I'm rooting for the USA more than usual during this Olympiad But...not enough to HAHAHAHA about today I wish Bepa 3 would medal, but I have a feeling she is destined for the Myskina Medal

Well she is the braindeadest of all the remaining players.
Russia may finally get some cheap medals this way.

JJ gets thrashed in the first set 6-2, but steals the second set 7-5. Ajde.

Safina acted like such a huge bitch on first MP. Asked for the challenge almost a minute after the point ended and then she for some reason asked the point to be replayed although JJ had hit a winner. Pummel her, Li Na.

Get a medal, Bepa 3!

Bepa will win the first or second set. Bepa will choke in the third. It's a given. Lena might help things along by taking an extended bathroom break between sets or something. Then Bepa will go nuts and lose to Safina for the Bronze. Li Na gets gold and Demented plays atrociously in a final yet again.

Only hope for Bepa = if Lena chokes first. Which is possible! Remember 6-1, 5-1.
Li v Safina is good so far. Li was tense at the start but seems to have got her teeth into the match now - her shots really are incredible when she's making them. Safina seems a little rattled by the crowd, she lost her last game with a plethora of double faults.

Whoa. I never thought I'd ever say "OMG incredible defense from Safina", but that was quite something.

Some absolute bullets from Li to break back! Great stuff here.

Wow. Safina serving at 2-2, 40-0 in the second set. Two DFs. Incredible BH winner from Li. Two more DFs. WTF.

Well...that must be devastating for Li. Safina really won the match with her defense...and Li would almost always be forced into a stupid error. But it was Li who really had the match in her hands. She looked completely broken when she left the court

I'm hoping for a Russian sweep of the medals, though I wouldn't mind Li winning Bronze either. Lena D for the gold, this time.

It's worst case scenario for me in both events...it'd be so awful for Yan, Zheng and Li to come away empty-handed after, like, centering their careers on these Olympics. But I really wanted Bepa 3 and Bond Squared to medal as well

Fans of Russian tennis such as Goldenlox are revelling in the Dementieva/Safina gold medal singles match partly because Sharapova isn't there and it's still an all Russina final. But I miss Maria and the Olympic tennis isn't the same for me without her. Especially because she was really going to play Olympic tennis for Russia. As for the women's final Dementieva really needs to win this. If she loses she will be 0-2 in grand slam singles finals and 0-2 in Olympic singles finals. And I believe that Safina is ready and tough enough to beat Elena. But I'm pulling for Elena. Udachi Elena!

I don't think Russia possibly sweeping the Olympic women's tennis singles medals means Russian tennis players will now dominate the WTA Tour. I think it's possible Dementieva, Safina and Zvonareva will have letdowns at the upcoming U.S. Open.

Because we're bored: 2004: Justine - 4R, horrible loss to Nadejda. Amelie - QF, chokes to Demented. Molik - 2R, Hanturexia with a rare good match. Myskina - 2R, horribler loss to Chak Vampiro - 2R, losing to The Sarge is never good. Fish - 2R. Who cares. He sucks. Gorila - 1R. Dent - 2R. Imagine a Fish-Dent Olympic final. OMGWTFBBQ. Sydney was post-USO. 1996: Lindsay Ann Leach: 4R, Wild Thing. Arantxa: 4R, Hingis. Novotna: QF, Hingis. Maria Jose: DNP. Agassi: SF, Destroyed by Chang. Bruguera: 3R, My Tommy I'm not looking up Paes and Meligeni, but I'll assume they did poorly. 1992: Capriati: 3R. Stefanie: QF, Arantxa. Arantxa: F Maria Jose: SF Rosset: 1R, revenge. Arrese: 1R. Goran: 3R. Cherkasov: 1R. Seoul was also post-US Open. The '84 Olympics were a demonstration sport and weak. Even though Stefanie won. So, yeah, the history isn't good.

I wouldn't assume that. If the Williams' are still playing any tennis, one is winning gold at Wimbledon in '12. Not as outlandish as it sounds. The way things are going, by 2012 Wimbledon will be played on velcro though.
