Q. In the first set you were playing pretty cagey, not big shots. Was that not because of your wrist but a tactical decision? GAEL MONFILS: I tried to do something else, but actually was shit.

Ugh, Vika looks ill. Hang tough. Puke on the court if you have to. Pukers never lose.

Three trainers are waiting courtside for Vika because she looks like she has heatstroke or something...

Ugh... that sucked.

Please - Simon did the same thing. Why penalise the fans more when they had already lost out seeing great tennis?

Hi new person. Why does it say you have 0 posts? Weird board.
This tournament is just awful.

I'm watching Geezer Doubles now. Henri Laconte rocks. BLAH. Stop retiring, players.

Hey Hurley - I remember you from XC boards. I thought I had an acct here but had to reregister.
It has been a very odd AO - last year I went and it was a much better tourney for the women. This year is just all over the show.
Hope Nadal/Gonzo can salvage the day!

Hi Leena - funny. Well I saw how awkward simon looked at having to speak to the commentator and then a guy thrust a marker in his hand to sign some autographs. The AO radio guys were saying Serena didn't want to speak to the on court dude but they made her. Man she got lucky.

Murray's game has gone in the tank this set. It's been quite fun to watch. Wow, Verdasco is playing really nicely now. Poor Azarenka. If she was healthy, she probably would've pulled the upset. Today is the first time I've seen Dementieva play in a while, and my very first time seeing Cibulkova. Dominika showed me NOTHING. Elena has improved her serve, and that seems like the key to her resurgence. It's a shame it took her until the age of 27 to fix it finally.

It's a shame that Demented still gets comments about it, because it is truly remarkable how she's made her 2nd serve a strength late in her career after such severe mental and physical blocks. It would be similar to Sjeng Schalken learning to use any lower body in his serve.
I want Elena to win this tournament so badly. Why do I do this.

Wow what a match - so much for him being 'the guy' this year. Well done Verdasco! Can't believe how quickly Rafa won!

What the hell happened? ? And against Verdasco of all people, why didn't he choke? Wow.

LOL, WTF happened while I was asleep! What top players has Verdasco ever beaten before? I can't remember any of his matches vs elite opposition, apart from repeatedly drawing Andrew in 3rd rounds and never winning. I guess his scorelines so far should have been a sign that his big FH was working. Shrieky Vicky had to retire vs Silliams? And Zheng had to retire vs Sweta? <= there are not enough of these in the world to do justice to that situation. I would hope that Quarterena strikes here, but...it's Sweta. No point. Demented has also drawn me into her Web of Hope. This cannot end well. At least Flake is losing

I'm not that pessimistic yet. But in some way it's sad to think of what Serena could have done if she had stayed in shape. I'm pretty sure the tour as a whole would be better off now too. Agree so much. Fed's domination may have been predictable, but it set up the ATP's current golden age so well - forcing Nadal/Djokovic/Murray to improve, introducing a number of compelling overall narratives etc. Whereas the women who could have done that...one prefers to be lazy and win one Slam a year. And the other retired to find a man. Imagine if the Williams sisters and the Belgians had all shown the focus and commitment of Federer and Nadal for the past five years...women's tennis might not be a joke right now. And having a standard that high to aim for would only have benefited the Serbs' games.

No, not really. But it is up there.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Smilies cannot do this justice.

Poor ED! I had no idea Mommy Vera isn't with her. "I feel good, the only thing I miss is my mum because she always travels with me," an emotional Dementieva, 27, said.
"She couldn't come this time because of medical reasons, she doesn't feel good and it feels weird. It just feels strange without her and even when I come to the locker room, people are asking where's my mum.
"We have such a close relationship travelling together for more than 10 years and to be without her is kind of hard.
"I talk to her a couple of times during the day and she was very glad she could watch live yesterday's match [against Australian Sam Stosur].
"She was happy for me, but it's also tough for her. People have been asking why I've been playing so good, I'm just trying to please my mum because she doesn't feel good.
"I just want her to feel just a little better. She has done such a good job helping me for all these years and she is always with me - she's my mum."
Dementieva said the absence of her mother's immediate support had tested her mental strength in the patriotic Rod Laver Arena cauldron which swang behind Stosur on Saturday night.
