Dinara has won 7 points in 5 games so far. Rich.
Hopefully Venus win the final. Serena is an intolerable human being.

I slept in for the 1st SF. Glad I did. Good to see that Elena put up a fight, and you we she played aggressively which she SHOULD have in Melbourne. She probably would have won that time if she did.
Dinara won 20 points. She actually outdid herself. Congrats on the Golden Slam of gagging, you useless wench. Women's tennis deserves a #1 like you. Point and laugh. And Dinara will have about a 4000 point lead for #1 over full-time players. Jajaja.

I am glad that I sat in the park all afternoon. Demented/Silliams sounds as though it was thrilling, but even reading back over it I can feel myself getting annoyed. So, best for my mood that I didn't have to see it live. Still proud of Demented, never thought she could push Silliams like that in a Wimbledon SF.
Dinara...there are just no words. Except "useless".

"I owe this match to my serve," Williams said drolly later. "But my forehand didn't show up. It went to Hawaii. It's always nice to win when you have a stroke on vacation. I've made a call and asked it to come back for the final." - S. Williams. Stupid bitch.

This is pretty great from Venus, though. As much as we carp about women's tennis, it's still galling to see the anti-women articles in the press, many of which stem from kneejerk sexism rather than our frustration at a sport we love going to shit.
Q. This isn't your fault obviously because you played really well, but it's embarrassing for women's tennis to see the No. 1 destroyed in that way, isn't it?
VENUS WILLIAMS: Why do you put it like that?
Q. You played very well.
VENUS WILLIAMS: Are you trying to be down on women's tennis?
Q. I'm trying to be down on the way that Safina is the world No. 1 representing women's tennis.
VENUS WILLIAMS: So you're trying to be down basically.
Q. Not on women's tennis, no.
VENUS WILLIAMS: Okay, because I don't deal with down at all.
Q. It's not down.
VENUS WILLIAMS: I'm just making sure you're not trying to be down, because I respect Dinara Safina immensely, and I think you should, too.
Q. I do.
VENUS WILLIAMS: Thanks.

Venus' answers were fine, she's a good ambassador for her sport. But a journalist who's doing his job properly HAD to ask that question, if only to get Venus to answer the way she did.
Even when Pierce demolished Graf, Graf still won 4 games. A number 1 player in the world should simply not lose that way, unless she's injured.

I'd like to ask this:
Q: This is your fault obviously, but it's embarrassing for women's tennis that you suck 50 weeks out of the year, then crush everyone here.
VENUS WILLIAMS: I don't deal with down, bitch.
Q: I'm an Elena Bovina fan, how am I not supposed to get down.
VENUS WILLIAMS: Who.
Q: She beat you. Twice.
VENUS WILLIAMS: Wow, really? I apologize for embarrassing women's tennis. But, those shitty Russians are worse.
Q: Truth. Thanks.

Even when Pierce demolished Graf, Graf still won 4 games. A number 1 player in the world should simply not lose that way, unless she's injured. Graf had even worse losses, she lost to ASV 0 and 2 at RG once, Monica won 3 games in the Wimbledon final; hell, Sharapova was even double bagelled. Everyone's had horrible losses. The thing is, when those happened, people were surprised. Nobody expected it to happen. And nobody was really shocked that Safina lost this way, and that is exactly the problem.

The weak Monica beating at Wimbly wasn't expected. We were expecting bagels and breadsticks again. /dodges Ali
Seriously, about Venus, she lost to Dinara only 6 weeks ago. Of course, she respects her and won't say anything to piss her off. And Vee won't be honest and say she doesn't give her best at other tournaments.

And, yes, the problem really is that we all expected it.

Sharapova also won YEC on her period, and we had physical evidence. That excuse only works for JJ since most of us tolerate her.

In the losses, you have mentioned only Monica was ranked #1 at the time of the loss. Steffi was #2 when she lost to ASV at RG 91 and Maria was #3 (I think) when she lost to Lindsay. And that underscores your point. They weren't ranked #1, yet the losses were shocking. Safina is #1 and just about everyone had called the lopsided score.

And, yes, the problem really is that we all expected it. As much as everyone talks about the grunts, I think the weather played a much bigger role. There were constant interruptions and Monica never really got going. Further, the conditions helped Steffi's game, which on grass was always going to excel. Grunts or no grunts, Steffi was never going to lose that match - it may not have been so lopsided, but I don't think Monica ever had a serious chance of winning. Regarding Steffi's loss at RG, she wasn't injured. She just made a ton of unforced errors. Her forehand was flying all over the place, and against a retriever like ASV, it was a disaster waiting to happen. ASV won the opening set of their 92 SF 6-0 once again, but this time Steffi turned it around to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-2.
