I believe K-Bond just got screwed with the line call, but that's what she gets for using up all her challenges foolishly. Somehow Ana is a game away from winning the match.

I watched Sharapova. Wish Tsveti could've showed us some of her better stuff, but she keeps that locked in storage these days. The commentators really dissed her -- understandably, given the way she was playing tonight, but I wanted to say, but there's MORE TO HER than you're seeing right now! But then I wondered, or is there? Don't know why I'm having such a hard time accepting the truth about this player.

BAG, lolz.
Burley, why do you hate Muzza. And he's going to win a slam.

Burley, why do you hate Muzza. There is a thread explaining all of his horrors. Which are admittedly less, these days. Same time Azarenka does? Seriously, he's a fine player. But that Dushevina style won't win majors as long as people keep their heads about them. If a retard like Gulbis can hit through him and EASILY on numerous points, that's...well, that's why he hasn't won one, and probably won't, as long as non-morons hit much much much harder. Verdasco at AO. Gonzalez at RG. Roddick at W. It seems pretty obvious.

I think Murray got a bit unlucky on the two Slams he had a shot at. He lost against Verdasco who then showed that he was in brilliant form, and against the other Andy - well, Murray did play too passive but again his opponent was red-hot and still only 2 or 3 points decided the match.
But, no more excuses now.

The commentators really dissed her -- understandably, given the way she was playing tonight, but I wanted to say, but there's MORE TO HER than you're seeing right now! But then I wondered, or is there? Don't know why I'm having such a hard time accepting the truth about this player. Chris Fowler knows nothing about Pironkova and Carillo knows little. Their cutting her up so much was surprising with Carillo saying things like Pironkova doesn't beat her opponents she's just on the other side of the net when they lose. Harsh. And Pironkova actually gave a good pre match interview instead of the normal bland tennis zombie answers. Sharapova looked solid tonight. Love the headband it's only 5 years overdue. I still don't like Maria's new serve. But what I don't undesrsrand is what happened to Ivanovic's serve which was the third best in women's tennis the first half of 2008. Ana didn't have a right shoulder injury so how did she lose her fine serve? Tough loss to Bondarenko but in the long run maybe this will make Ana work harder and play smarter and better in the clutch. And getting her normal service motion and good serve back would be a big help because she can't win with her new service motion. It's worse than Sharapova's. Great day for the Bondarenko's.

Wow, BAG. I did consider calling the upset, but thought K-Bond would be too nuts to close it. How bad do you have to be if you're mentally weaker than K-Bond in a third set TB? Also, how is BAG still close to the top 10? "If everyone plays well" includes Murray playing well => he will win a Slam! I just hope it isn't Wimbledon. Here would be ideal, it might encourage better coverage of this tournament in the UK. Gulbis's smile is charmingly goofy Safina's press conferences...man, she's funny and self-deprecating and all, but she gives every impression that she is totally unable to control her game. Q. Are you curious how the fans would welcome you this year after what happened last year?
NOVAK DJOKOVIC: Well, look, I mean, this is past. What happened last year, the way I get it, to be honest, was like, I don't know, a fight with a girlfriend. Just a little fight with a girlfriend. These things happen

Seriously, he's a fine player. But that Dushevina style won't win majors as long as people keep their heads about them. And what about Murray keeping his own head on? Roddick was playing the best tennis of his life at Wimbledon - I think LeeLee said it but he couldn't have played a better match in that semi. Had Muzza played a little more balls, he was in the final. Fed took something like 17 Slams to win his first one (Wim 2003), and before that he hadn't even made a semi. Andy has played 15. So to say he won't win majors 'as long as people keep their heads about them'... doesn't really make any sense.

Navarro Pastor def. King Ivo 6-4 7-6 7-6. Ivo was up 5-3 in the last TB and then lost four points in a row which is remarkably bad. Navarro, woohoo!! Interesting that he is a serve-volleyer. I think he might have had an interesting run at Newport one year. (checking) Ja, quarters last year (where he beat the RSA IVO). Even better 's-Hertowhatever, a semi this year. He also took Vic Hanescu to a 10-12 5th set at Wimby this year.

"If everyone plays well" includes Murray playing well => he will win a Slam! [/i][/quote] That...is completely what I am not saying. Muzza at his best is not good enough as long as someone else is at his best. For instance: My point exactly. Luckily for Muzza, it's been open for a while, and yet...still not good enough.

And, let it be said that I am dreading the inevitability of the Muzza Slam...I am just saying that as long as somebody else at or near the top plays well, we should be saved every time. As we can plainly see, it doesn't even have to be anyone great. So, it shouldn't happen. But, unfortunately, people are dumb. It'll probably happen this damn month

Post by lexpretend on Sept 2, 2009 9:28:57 GMT -5
Roddick did not play the tennis of his life vs. Murray at Wimbledon. In patches, but...remember how he nearly choked the third set? He was there for the taking, but Murray played overly passively - i.e., more so than usual - and failed to switch up his strategy - again, unlike he usually does.
I mean, you know as well as I do that the "at [X]'s best" argument isn't that meaningful! This is like when people said that Rafa was just a moonballer, and all it'd take to beat him on hard courts was an aggressive player playing well, like Tsonga at the AO that year. Maybe so, but Rafa is one USO away from the Full House, so...it doesn't matter. To beat Murray, most players are going to have to have a great day, not just a good day.
