Maria is fading. This match looks just like Oudin's come from behind wins against Jankovic at Wimbledon and Dementieva at the U.S. Open.

Maria's not getting any depth on her groundies right now. Oudin has to really jump on those short balls.

Don't know what happened to my German-language Haas feed. McEnroe seems to be rooting for Maria, which is odd since he's usually so I Love Americans.

Oudin is so much better from the baseline than Sharapova that she really shouldn't lose another game here.
You know Petrova is laughing her ass off.

The sad thing is that this is how Maria has played since her comeback. And she gets to the later rounds with this.
But, really, this is all just to set up Safina winning 8 points in the final.

I also dislike that Oudin makes Sharapova's skin look good. She has Christine's herpes.

Yeah, Sharapova used to have a seriously powerful baseline game, and that, along with the serve, is just gone.
But Maria is winning her matches because she is Fighter. And, frankly, Oudin is going to throw this game away, after 5 BPs, and seriously, it's going to become mental. And then, who knows.

I'm glad Oudin picked up her game, though. Early on I was wondering what the big deal was. She's a good hitter, and a good athlete, but...it's not like America should breathe a big sigh of relief or anything.

Oudin is nothing special. She's a fast counterpuncher. Kind of a poor man's SexyDomi like Corswandt said.
Maria winning with little more than her supreme confidence is why I'm sure De Screamo will be #1 for 5+ years.

Maria is a tough competitor. But her game only works when everything is on. Else ... 0-6 0-6, for example. Since her shoulder isn't working properly anymore I don't know what she can still achieve.

Maria lacked consistency because of injuries, and her shoulder problems began in 2006. It's a shame, because when healthy she showed she could dominate the tour. Especially 2008 AO, and her shoulder blew up soon after that. As I've said many times, the surgery she had was very serious. She's never going to regain her previous form.

Maria winning with little more than her supreme confidence is why I'm sure De Screamo will be #1 for 5+ years. She also knows to take the strategic injury break to bust up her opponent's rhythm. Nicely done. And De Screamo might be #1 for 5+ years but women's tennis will lose its last remaining fans and she'll be playing to empty stadiums. Except in Portugal, of course!
