Please tell me you all saw that dude run onto the court and kiss Shirtless Rafa. God dammit. My feed cut off! Now THAT would have been the funniest part of my week. It was briefly really scary. And yet...man, for the rest of his life, that dude will have that on his resume. And I doubt the USO or anyone else will press charges. He wins.

Wertheim's Teabag has dealt with "Everyone always hated the Williams sisters from the time they came on the scene, and I know this because I am Black" the last couple of days. I...can't remember, and am blinded by my hatred of them from the time they came on the scene, due to their Hingis-beating ways. It's not difficult to believe that they weren't ever crowd favourites like Capriati or Davenport were. It's also not difficult to believe that race has at least something to do with that. I mean, Capriati yells at babies and Davenport was pretty wooden half of the time. It's not like we're comparing horrible people to charisma machines here.

The Macs and I think that Rafa thought he knew him at first (he did have bronze skin and long dark Euro-hair), but then once he realized he was being propositioned, he got a little confused. But he did the interview and then did crazy headers while hitting the autographed balls out of the stands, and had a big goofy grin, so it was apparently forgotten. I'm sure he's had to dodge dudes left and right so...you know, par for the course.
What I liked was when they showed the replay...they didn't get it all, but the dude was spotted by some 50something "security" woman who literally could not have done anything about it, and consequently didn't do anything about it.

Nadal ended up playing a good match against Monfils. John McEnroe ripped into court security for allowing that nut to get onto the court and touch Nadal. Um John there are only a few security guards on court near the players and there are thousands of fans. If one fan wants to get on the court he or she will most likely do so. And how about the post match on court interview where Darren Cahill did not ask Rafael about the fan who accosted him while he was changing his shirts? I guess Cahill didn't see it. Or the USTA wants to pretend it didn't happen and someone quickly told Cahill not to bring up that touchy subject.

Or the USTA wants to pretend it didn't happen and someone quickly told Cahill not to bring up that touchy subject. I'm sure it's this, and there really wasn't any reason to make him feel even more uncomfortable on the court. Don't worry -- it will DEFINITELY come up in the PC. "I sink he is homosexual, no?"

Q. What did you think when the man came out of the stands and came up to you?
RAFAEL NADAL: No, for me it wasn't the problem. The guy was really nice (laughter.)
Q. Did he say anything?
RAFAEL NADAL: Yes. He was a great fan. He said, I love you, and he kiss me. (laughter.)
Q. Was he speaking Spanish?
RAFAEL NADAL: No, in English, but I understand that. (laughter.)
Aww.

I mean, Capriati yells at babies and Davenport was pretty wooden half of the time. It's not like we're comparing horrible people to charisma machines here. Yeah, this seems key. I mean...I don't begrudge any individual fan for supporting whomever they want. I love that tennis is a sport where people mostly appreciate players based on who they are, not just nationality. And as someone who doesn't cheer based on nationality, I can hardly tut-tut at Americans not cheering for Americans. Also, a crowd is not a monolith! All those New Yorkers clapping Clijsters probably did so for a huge variety of reasons. But I can't imagine any other home player receiving less support than a foreign opponent, anywhere. It's not just that the Williamses used to be bitches, and Serena is still one. Hewitt got Aussie support, and he's a massive cunt. Murray isn't exactly beloved of the British public, and he gets overwhelming support. I'd bet that even De Screamo, who is the absolute worst, would get Portuguese crowds behind her. Also, the whole "girl next door" thing does have tired racial connotations. The girl you want to live next door, if you live in lily-white suburbia. The idea that the media and commentators have it in for the Williamses has always been dumb, though. They're there to criticise. They've done this to every player since forever. Get over it. If it wasn't for K-BOND's presence, I'd definitely be pulling for an Oudin/Silliams final, just to see the can of worms explode.

Thanks, Foetus. My recollection was that there was quite a bit of support and good will for them when they started out.
I would be more likely to agree with someone who argued that the public would not have turned against them as dramatically had they been white.

Their situation is so unique that we have no basis of comparison. Which is why it's so hard to guess how much race is an issue.
Maybe if there were 2 annoying white sisters dominating the sport, people would be bored about it too. Who knows. Indian Wells would probably have never happened though.

Anyone who runs on a tennis court and appears to possibly pose threat to an athlete needs to be taken care of and at the very least laid out and in pain. It's time to stop tolerating slime balls interrupting play at sporting events.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Prosecutors say a New York City man arrested for running onto the court at the U.S. Open to kiss Rafael Nadal will be charged with trespassing and faces possible jail time if convicted.
Noam U. Aorta dashed out of the stands at Arthur Ashe Stadium just after midnight on Wednesday after Nadal advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Gael Monfils, prosecutors said. Aorta ran onto the court, then hugged and kissed the Spanish star as he was changing shirts on the sideline before security guards took him into custody, they said.
"For me, it wasn't a problem. The guy was really nice," Nadal said. "He said, 'I love you,' and he kissed me."
District Attorney Richard Brown, however, called it "particularly disturbing" because Aorta made physical contact with Nadal.
