The lovely and talented Anne Keothavong plans to return from her knee-surgery absence in February in the Europe/Africa Zone Group I competition, which takes place in Portugal, though I don't know if it's in Corswandt's region or not. Her pic (for Brinyi):

Europe/Africa Zone Group I competition, which takes place in Portugal, though I don't know if it's in Corswandt's region or not. It's adjacent to the Estoril Open venue, at some covered hardcourts they have there now. I thought there was no accomodation for spectators, but they're selling tickets, so I suppose there is. The local ES commentators have been hyping this like crazy. If I can still find tickets on Monday, I may attend, even if I suspect I'll be facing serious logistic difficulties. Taking a couple of days off should be no problem though.

If I can still find tickets on Monday Got them. It seems only one of the courts will have stands, which means I won't be able to pick which matches to follow. www.fedcup.com/results/ea1.aspSzavay not here. I was so looking forward to watching her self-destruct against 10K-level hackballers. The main junior stars in this field are Tomljanovic and Babos, right? There's also several other hopeless talented Generation Suckettes I have never seen play, such as Rus or Hercog. Or Mayr.

So this is Wednesday - Saturday, and not Thursday-Sunday like I thought for some reason.
And I still have no idea which days I'll be able to go. Friday+Saturday only is likely. Thursday is impossible. I'm pissed at this not because I was terribly eager to go, but because it shows how little control I now have over my own schedule. And because I won't be able to sell the ticket I already got.

Like always, there's DRAMA on Serbian team. Jankovic is apparently injured and will most likely not play. And Kuznetsova decided to play in the last moment.

I thought Sweater always wanted to play, but was left off the team? I guess I wasn't paying enough attention, but I know she mentioned something about Fed Cup in an AO interview. Those Russian girls (aside from Sharapova) sure love their Fed Cup!

Not very inviting, to say the least. I doubt pics are allowed or even possible there. Portugal dismal as expected. Shriekarenka ret. on her 1st match due to injury/sickness/whatever. Sunshine overcame yet another career threatening injury to play for DEN after all.

Uhhhhh R3 - S.ARVIDSSON / J.LARSSON (SWE) def. K.JACOBSGAARD / C.WOZNIACKI (DEN) 6-0 6-0 I wonder if Woz was injured or ill, since she did not play in the tie after that. Some interesting results in the zone: Austria defeated Belarus 2-1 in Rui-land R1 - P.MAYR (AUT) def. O.GOVORTSOVA (BLR) 6-2 6-2 R2 - S.BAMMER (AUT) def. V.AZARENKA (BLR) 5-7 6-4 2-0 - Retired Austria also whooped Team GBR, with Bally and Anne K not even coming close Don't look now, but Hungary is 2-0, bringing back memories of the glory days of Petra Mandula. The Swiss are unbeaten. I can't figure out this score: R1 - A.SADIKOVIC (SUI) def. I.OLARU (ROU) 7-6(1) 5-7 6-4 Looks like Netherlands will also advance to WG playoffs if I am not mistaken. Get a load of this one: R2 - A.RUS (NED) def. S.PEER (ISR) 6-2 6-1 Rus also beat Pironkova in their win over BUL.

Canada and Brazil play today, with the winner having a shot at the WG playoffs. Canada has been using Woz and Fichman for singles and is eschewing the Dubois option. Brazil has been going with Alves and Duarte, with my Roxane relegated to doubles duty. On clay, that should be tight.
In the other American group, Colombia and Paraguay will battle with the right to face the CAN-BRA winner. Sadly, MFAT has been winless for Bolivia, but did take RDLR to 3 sets.

S.Perry is out (wrist). Thankfully US tennis has enormous reserves of depth, and was able to call on Christina McHale to step in, go up and under, and lay it on off glass!

The structure of this tie and its scoring are positively retarded, and that goes a way towards explaining the random results. Halep = same old Generation Suck shit. Irina-Camelia Begu actually exists. Spirlea looks like a Duchess I hadn't seen Wozniacki from up close since almost three years ago, and she now looks both imposing (probably taller than her official height) and very pretty. Daddy Greedniacki, the Gordon Gekko of tennis, was also there.

Oudin is the highest ranked player in the USA-FRA tie. Ugh. Please lose. Of course, I'm sure that they'll win and Serbia will win and Jelena/Ana will hate each other and not play the next tie.
Go Team Bondarenko.
At least the stuff in Portugal looks fun. Mandula and Spirlea mentions in one page, yeah!

A-Bond whooped Schiavone Al Groenefeld massacred Safarova Cornet is down a set to Mattek. AUS-ESP tied 1-1 Why aren't China's good players there?

I was wondering the same about China. Usually they enforce that, don't they?
Cornet lost to Mattek-Sands ... and Oudin won. Leena is thrilled!
Wickmayer lost a set to Domachowska, and that tie will probably come down to whether she can beat Radwanska in the reverse singles. And I honestly am not sure who will win that.
Another note from that Switzerland-Romania tilt that's newsworthy: Dulghuru d. Schnyder 3-6 7-6 (6) 6-0. Nice effort in that third set from Patty.
Not a good performance for Larcher de Brito ...

Apparently ... Coin was subbed today because Cornet was "too distraught" over her loss to Mattek-Sands.

Just call her Wussnet.
Wow, BAG just gets worse and worse. This prolonged collapse...her career is kind of comparable to Majoli's now, isn't it? Though Iva didn't have half the hype that Ana did. JJ must be feeling pretty smug, though.

This US run in Fed Cup is incredibly disturbing. Melanie Oudin, Fed Cup heroine. WTF.
More Bethanie is good, though. She has the sexiest grunt. And she wears the high socks well, the fashionista.

Yet, Wussnet played doubles. Like, what happened to her. When you're benched for Julie F'ing Coin, you really need to take a look at yourself.
Also, Cohen-Aloro is FAT. Not tennis fat, just fat.

All the WG and WGII ties went the way I wanted them to, save for Evil US. Yay.
Wickmayer saved MPs vs Ratwanska. Double yay.
Cornet would lose a Fed Cup match to anyone. Escude did what he had to do.
I saw the singles matches of the Serbia tie and any similarity between whatever it is GOATBAG plays now and tennis is a mere coincidence.

She concurs with your assessment: "I tried to play more aggressively, but I'm struggling psychologically," a teary-eyed Ivanovic said.

That's not what she said on live TV right after the match. In her own words, she was happy with the way she played and thought she had plenty of chances, but didn't have enough time to get used to the court surface.
Yes. She lost to Kleybanova 6-2 6-3 and thought she played a good match.

At least the stuff in Portugal looks fun. Mandula and Spirlea mentions in one page, yeah! It was fun (hardcourts >>>> claycourts), and cheerfully chaotic. Nobody knew who was playing until the players actually stepped inside the court.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, fellow grump.
Tennis in France needs to be banned. Nobody worthwhile comes from that wussland. If FRA didn't steal players from other countries, they'd be worthless. Monfils, from Guadaloupe. Tsonga, half-Congan. Santoro, Tahiti. They can only provide such manly men as Gassy and Mathieu.
