Well, for sure that we are very worry about having to play the best goalie of this season in first round Playoff and regular seasons are 2 different things. It's really difficult to predict especially Flames has not been in playoff in 8 (?) years. Most of the players are not experienced in playoff hockey.

Hey Diss, thanks for inviting me to play the WTA hockey pool . It's really fun and I hope to join again next season, if there's a next season. And you ranked 5th, not bad. I got 8th, which is about the position I was at the whole season. After juggling so much with the lineup, still couldn't improve much. lol. But the juggling part is fun, that's all that counts.

Playoff and regular seasons are 2 different things. It's really difficult to predict especially Flames has not been in playoff in 8 (?) years. Most of the players are not experienced in playoff hockey. True, but the intengible is the pressure. For the Flames, getting into the playoff is mission accomplished, or at least half the mission is accomplished. For the Nucks, it would be a big disappointment if we can't get to at least the division final. So the pressure is on us. But more precisely, the pressure is on Cloutier, who probably got all the blame for losing in the three playoff series that we lost. He has a lot to prove compare to Miikka. And he hasn't been able to show that he plays well under pressure. Anyway, it's hard to predict which team will do well. I'll be mad if the Nucks loses to the Flames but I won't be surprised.

Anything can happen in playoff! I still remember the year that Flames won the Stanley Cup and the team barely managed to get out the 1st round vs Canucks. A fluke or controversial goal at OT in 7th game.

I still remember the year that Flames won the Stanley Cup and the team barely managed to get out the 1st round vs Canucks. A fluke or controversial goal at OT in 7th game. You mean this: Stanley Cup playoffs filled with Canadian flavour Mon Apr 5 02:19:13 2004 CBC SPORTS ONLINE - Remember when Madonna's Like A Prayer topped the billboard charts and Batman was the top grossing film south of the border? Six-foot-nine-inch Zdeno Chara anchors a deep and dependable Senators blue-line. How about former Edmonton Oilers great Wayne Gretzky setting a record for assists in a season, including playoffs, with 131? The year 1989 also marked the last time the NHL had an all-Canadian Stanley Cup final. The Calgary Flames exacted revenge in a rematch of the 1986 championship, defeating the Montreal Canadiens in six games. The Vancouver Canucks were the last Canadian club to make a Cup final appearance, losing in seven games to Mike Keenan and the New York Rangers in 1994. Doug Gilmour scored twice in the third period of Game 6 to cement a 4-2 victory in 1989 as Calgary became the only visiting team to win the Cup on Montreal Forum ice. Lanny McDonald scored the go-ahead goal in the second period in what was his last NHL season. With the series tied 2-2, Calgary jumped out early in Game 5 as Joel Otto scored 28 seconds into the game at the Pengrowth Saddledome. The Flames would go on to win 3-2, surviving a third period flurry by the Canadiens. Calgary, which captured its second straight Presidents' Trophy with a 54-17-9 regular season, defeated the Chicago Blackhawks in five games in the Campbell Conference final. Calgary had swept the Los Angeles Kings in four games in the Smythe championship. Otto's winning goal in overtime of Game 7 against Vancouver put the Flames in the Smythe final. Montreal, which finished first in the Adams Division with a 53-18-9 record, defeated the Hartford Whalers, Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers to gain a berth in the final. Patrick Roy, who became the eighth different Habs goalie to win the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's top netminder, led the way. This year, five of Canada's six teams are in the Stanley Cup tournament. The Edmonton Oilers, who earned points in 17 of their last 18 games, were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Saturday in a 5-2 loss to Vancouver. In the first round, fourth-seeded Toronto meets No. 5 Ottawa and No. 2 Boston faces No. 7 Montreal in the Eastern Conference. In the West, No. 3 Vancouver draws No. 6 Calgary. The 1993 Canadiens, coached by Jacques Demers, were the last Canadian champions. ----------------------------- We returned the favor by beating the Flames in Calgary first round 1994. We beat the #1 seed in OT that year ;D. But unfortunately, failed to win the Stanley Cup in the Final playing away in MSG. I'm still feeling the disappointment of that year. It's just hard to forget , for a team that doesn't get to the Stanley Cup final often.

Yes, that goal by BIG Otto. There were calls that Otto kicked the puck in but I believe it's was too difficult for him to stop from his skate making contact with the puck. Otto was the best face off guy and a pillar in front of net but not the best skaters in NHL

That reminds me of Kelly Hrudey. He always has his faith in Flames. He was the goalie for LA in 1989 which suffered a clean sweep by Flames in the 2nd round.

So we're gonna have me vs GBFH and Lee vs Vera here. Should be fun... You're welcome, Vera. The game was fun. Considering Ive learned A LOT about hockey during it, it was worth it all, plenty. I did a lot of juggling as well, my initial team was utter shit.

What's wrong with IIHF? Latvia is scheduled to be host to the 2007 world tournament but there's a problem. "There is no rink," says IIHF president Rene Fasel. What he meant by that is there is no arena that meets IIHF standards for world championships.

so both Swiss goalies in the NHL are playing in Switzerland at the moment, because of the lockout. Martin Gerber is playing for his old team, Langnau, while David Aebischer is happy to play substitute goalie for Lugano. hubby promised to take me to a match here in Bern. As defending Swiss champions, our Bernese team, SCB, is starting off the new season well.

Hockey! It's in Sweden . The Swedish Championships, Elitserien, started this week. And because of the lockout it's hotter than in many years, in spite of the World Cup fiasco. Peter Forsberg scored in his first game for Modo and got a really weird match penalty for pushing a guy in the back . Other NHL players made notably performances as well. Now we're waiting for Mats Sundin, Näslund och Lidström to come back. They're probably waiting out the new year for tax reasons.

I'm a Modo fan already, though I've never watch them . But it must be a super good team since both Forsberg and Naslund been talking about moving back to Sweden to play for them for the past coupon of years. Well, NHL's loss is other's gain. All the great European players return to their respective homeland to play in their national league. Probably will help hockey globally in the long run. They've been here so long, should have their share for serving their own country's hockey fans. The Canucks and the Yanks will just have to sit out for as long as the dispute goes on. Maybe I'll start watching the AHL and the WHL. Hey, they are cheaper in terms of ticket price, it's not a bad thing .

Well Alfredsson, Näslund, Sundin, Norström, Lidström, Nylander and perhaps some more are all staying in North America util at least the New Year. They haven't stated why really. But it's a common media theory it's because of tax reasons. If they stay in Sweden for more than six months they would have to pay huge amounts in back taxes.

Peter Forsberg doesn't seem to care though. He's signed up for the full season at Modo. And he's the richest of the lot. Funnily the Modo NHL players don't get a salary. They only get their insurance and some expenses paid.

I guess the NHLs still have contracts so technically, they can't play for another team and get paid? Well, I think they like to play in the pro. level whether they get pay or not to just stay in shape. Here, some players will sit out for contract dispute and they just play with the university team for the time being. Nassy has 3 young kids and earns a half of what Forsberg makes, so I guess he does have to make sure he keep enough money around , esp he's going to retire from the NHL like ... NOW (well, he's considered gone if there's no season this year).

Ya, I'm happy that they won, but it's just half exciting as when we won Salt Lake, I guess beating US made it so much sweeter. Emmm, we have CBC here ;D. It's almost perfect, only if they will also show the European TMS then I'll have everything, maybe Tennis Channel someday .

Övik has never been so hot now with Foppa and the NHL players returning to Sweden, and it looks like I am going to have to follow it closer than I have recently. As long as a northern team when it is good.

Brendan Morrisson is the hottest, (as in best), player in Elitserien right now. Mo is with Elitserien? Cool, is it a Swedish team ( pardon my lack of outside-NHL knowledge). Interesting that he's playing in Sweden and the Swedish Canucks stay in Vancouver. In the paper, they said it's not just personat tax, but Sweden is taxing players with who's have long-term contract/insurance an additional 1.5% of their overall asset value or sth, got little confusing when it comes to tax but it sounds like a huge amount that they charge for tax, that's why Olli and Nazzy came back to N. America with other Swedish players like Lidstrom. And they said Peter the great has no contract with N. American team so he don't have to worry about that tax. Plus papa Forsberg is coach of Modo, all the more reason to play for Modo.
