Yes, now I could wholeheartedly cursed Gaborik when he comes to town to play the Canucks ;D. I've completely gave up on my goalies, the SJ had returned to their old form, they were fluke for one season in 2001 and they now just suck at the bottom of the ocean. But I see the Ducks are coming around now. Giggy needs to get better but Federov had settled down a bit. Wings in town tonite. My sister just emailed me that she saw Hasek yesterday shopping in downtown. Hey, I thought he was injuried. lol. Those injuried players are usually the one who got spotted shopping when they came into town. I remembered when Jeff Sanderson was in my team, he was injuried when the team was on road trip, I saw him shopping in downtown. He is extremely cute in street clothes . I like him ever since .

Hey, McLennan is good. I was considering him, but decided to stuck with Nabakov . I'm sure if I ever dropped Nabakov, he'll probably started playing incredibly well . McLennan is good and Turek is still hurt, me think, so he'll be playing for awhile.

I cant hope Turek stays hurt (that would be mean!) but I can hope McLennan plays so well that they wont take him out of the team anymore. Oh well...

we kicked the Wings butt in convincing fashion, just a little blemish when Brett Hull spoiled Clout's SO. What a game, it's fun to watch. A little clip from the post-game report: What started as a conservative game at both ends broke open shortly after the Canucks killed off the second of two first-period Detroit power plays without yielding a shot. Bertuzzi then opened the scoring with 1:28 left in the period.
Naslund stole the puck just outside the Detroit blue line to set up a two-on-one break. He passed to Bertuzzi, who waited patiently for the goalie to go down and then scored on a wrist shot from the faceoff circle that beat Legace high on the glove side.
It was the first goal since opening night for Bertuzzi, who scored 46 last season and signed a four-year, $28 million contract extension last week.
"I was going to pass it and then I just remembered that I only had one goal, Bertuzzi said, joking. "It's a team game but, obviously, I get paid to contribute offensively." :lmao: Bert and Nassy were both in the run for the scoring title last season but they kept passing the puck to each other as if they were feeling guilty to keep the puck to themselves. This year, the coaches must have told them to stop passing and just shoot .

Cujo got his first SO of the season, unfortunately for Lee, he shut out the Flames. I'm glad that Cujo was hurt and didn't play against us , it would have been a confident killer. The Wings were horrible monday and I almost felt sorry for Legace who looked absolutely helpless in front of the goal. Now that Cujo plays again and Hasek still hurt, I hope he gets to win some games so some other teams will want to take him. Carolina could use a good goalie if they want a season out of it.

Vera I meant to cheer on the Canucks earlier tonight and the last time I checked the score it was 0-1 Canucks... hope they're doing better as I type this... Canucks! They were very sloppy the first 2 periods. But the third was great and they managed to edge out a 4-3 wins. Tomorrow is gonna be tough as they move into the St. Louis to face the music (Blues). But keep going Canucks, keep the streak alive.

Okay, I thought this is interesting. Its how the Play is related to the Pay of each team. I just took the teams that might be of interested to us. And couldn’t help but also to add some of my comments. From ESPN: sports.espn.go.com/nhl/powerranking?season=2004&week=4Team number, team record, payroll, payroll ranked among the league, comments. Canucks 8-2-2-0 $38,699,500 (16): Brendan Morrison ($2.45M) would be in Lou Lamoriello's thin file of boo-boos if the trade for Alexander Mogilny (and the Cup that followed) hadn't worked out. Avalanche 6-5-0-0 $60,877,458 (7): Can you win the Stanley Cup with $1.05M in goaltending. We'll find out soon enough. Red Wings 5-6-1-0 $77,834,109 (1): Needless to say, they have the fewest players making less than $1M (4). Maple Leafs 5-4-2-1$61,758,140 (5): Three players are tied for the team lead with three goals -- Joe Nieuwendyk ($2M), Darcy Tucker ($1.6M) and Nik Antropov ($925K). Flames 5-4-0-1 $35,247,950 (19): We still can't figure out how Jarome Iginla ($7.5M) makes more than Joe Thornton ($5.5M). Canadiens 6-6-0-0 $42,662,000 (14): We still can't figure out how Jose Theodore ($5.5M) makes the same as Joe Thornton. Rangers 4-3-2-1 $77,018,715 (2): Does anyone else have an issue with Bobby Holik ($8.85M) making more than Brian Leetch ($6.6M)? (It’s the Rangers, DUH!)Penguins 3-4-3-0 $26,605,000 (27): With a $5.25M salary, you gotta figure Mario Lemieux doesn't get paid to own the team. (So true, Mario has to pay the team to come to work everyday)Coyotes 3-5-3-0 $37,847,500 (17): By the time the trade deadline rolls around, any taker would be picking up just over $600K of Sean Burke's salary. Sharks 2-5-5-0 $34,825,000 (20): Payroll was slashed by $13M from last year, proof that cutting back is a catastrophe unless smart hockey decisions weren't made in the first place. (Errrr, they are as bad as they were $13M richer, why pay more when you suck the same?)Hurricanes 2-5-4-0 $37,836,238 (18): Eric Staal makes $1.24M. He turned 19 on Oct. 29. (Who’s Eric Staal? Why is he got paid more than Paul Kariya ).

Flames 5-4-0-1 $35,247,950 (19): We still can't figure out how Jarome Iginla ($7.5M) makes more than Joe Thornton ($5.5M). May be he's the only guy in Flames who can sell tickets?

You're prolly right, Lee. But with Flames records of the past like 6 yrs, you have to be a real diehard fans to attend those games, and maybe Iggy is the only reason they are still holding hopes. He has to do better though, for 7.5M, he hasn't done much this year. I would know because he's in my hockey pool :red: . We lost last nite. But I wasn't too disappointed, more like relief that they gone thru that game without a major casuality *phew*. Really, it's nasty as always whenever Blues meets the Nucks, body checks everywhere and some good and some just make you cringed. Most of the Canucks fans were furious bcos Dougie Weight gave Sedin a crosscheck on the face and almost cut his eyes and made him lost some teeths (now, he looks like a real hockey player ). It's dirty as hell. But I'm glad the consequence is that Weight now get a 4 games suspension for that dangerous crosscheck on the face. Too bad, we aren't playing home and home with them this week.

I watched the last period of the Flames/Blue Jackets game. They were fighting hard to catch up, unfortunately still came short. Iggy was trying very hard, he did get a goal though but not enough. They just ought to stop the bleeding now.

Lee, you heard about the Heritage Classic on this Sat? It's the legendary Oilers and Habs, with Gretzky and Messier among the 80s Oilers... Anywayz, I'm excited to watch it, well, maybe not so much of the game itself cos I'm sure it's not very intense. But it's gonna be playing outside, Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton that seats 56+ thous people and it's gonna be at a high of -7 celcius, likely be snowing too. Wow, pond hockey, exciting. Then they will have the real Oilers and Habs game NHL level, it's gonna be fun. I'm looking forward to watch the biggest ever outdoor hockey game. More, look up this link: sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/story?id=1665711

Thanks Vera for the news. I read about it but don't know Moose will be there too! Too bad I don't have CBC here! I think only Canadians will miss watching games outdoor in those 'freezing your butt' temperature. I always remember watching Stampeders with thermos, sleeping bags and down jackets. edit: It will be shown in US but on pay-per-view channel called NHL Center Ice. I'm not sure how much for 120 minutes viewing and exactly when.

I was watching the news yesterday on TSN, it was snowing pretty hard in Edmonton, so I don't think we'll be seeing much green anymore. But it forecast looks good, saying no snow or rain on sat. I don't mind the cold weather bcos I'll be seating warmly indoor eating my popcorn. But I also think it may be fun to go watch it there, so 10 years down the road someone asked if I remembered that outdoor game in the Stadium, I can laugh and say: "Yay, I was one of those fools who's crazy enough to freeze my butt out to watch it live". People do crazy thing just to be part of the history, don't you think ? So they aren't showing it in the States . Oh well, they said it's gonna be the hockey game with the biggest media coverage ever, more than 500 media parties from around the world will be there and for sure some European countries are going to show it (emmmm, let me guess, Sweden and Finland... the usual suspects, they could almost claim NHL their own since some of the best NHLers are from there). So I do hope the weather holds so this event will go as plan after so much fuss been generated. www.cbc.ca/sports/indepth/heritageclassic/features/toocold.html

Oh, okay. I just saw you mentioning about the NHL Pay-per-view. My sister has that channel (I think that's the one), she brags about watching all 82 Canucks game when I wouldn't be able to (since ours always miss a couple of games ). It's very cheap, according to her, but she bought the whole season package for like 180 bucks for something like that, which is really quite cheap. They also do individual game though. Too bad you are so far away from the border, bcos in Washington or at least the Seattle area, CBC is on their cable.

The rink looked so tiny in there . You think seating there on the hill, they can see the puck? Where's the big screen, let's just concentrate on the replay .

Vera, I"m glad I don't live in Edmonton... winter comes early enough for me here in TO! How many hockey games do you figure you watch in a season? Interesting stat... I wonder how many tennis matches we watch? Of course, not that many since we hardly get any on TV anyway...

Post by Vera on Nov 20, 2003 21:50:34 GMT -5
RF I watch all the Canucks game on TV, usually 80 or 81 games are on TV during regular season (Sportsnet, CBC, TSN, PPV), plus however many playoffs for Canucks. And for the other teams, I sometimes watch them depends on moods, but maybe not so attentive, like I'll be doing something else while watching. No particular teams but I do like to catch those Canadian teams to see how they are doing. Can't say if I watch more tennis or hockey. But if my favorite tennis players and the Canucks are both on tv at the same time, I'll choose tennis . Of course that doesn't happen very often, as there isn't much tennis on tv and if they are on, not very often they'll be on prime time (that's why we never get those night matches ). I know you don't watch hockey much, but if you want to watch once in awhile to see what's the deal, the Canadian teams against each other is always intense, because there's lots of rivalry between them. Especially when the Leafs comes into town, we hate to lose to them bcos they sometimes got more cheer in the stadium as there's a lot of fans watching are originally from the East.

Canucks game on now. Our perfect home record is putting to test again. I thought it would ended last game when we trailed 0-2 to the Canadiens and seemingly playing so listlessly. Anyway, shouldn't say much, hope i don't jinx them .
