Also, so great that Sybille retires with her 2-0 h2h over Silliams intact

As soon as I comment, Jelena serves up a horrible game. Bring back the sky!

First point I see of Wimbledon 2011 is a JJ double fault to lose serve for 5-3 in the third.

I love the grass on the first day of Wimbledon.

Weird to hear Wimbledon CC echoing like a high-school gym!

Nets a second serve that was 73 MPH on break back point.

Yay, money. Lo Schiavo!

Good. It was getting annoying, as 746368 of Dokic's shots looked to be going out only to fall right on the line somehow, and when Schiavone did it for once it actually did go out.

Good match, ended like I expected, but so glad JD showed she's on the way back. And it'd be sad to see Franny go out in r1.
Just build on this, JD! No need to go into months of despair over this loss.

Gimeno Traver is kind of hott, who knew.

LOL. Gimeno Traver serving for the first set. Murray being too passive, blah blah blah.

Also, DGT's FH is kind of great.

Losing a set to Gimeno-Traver on grass is still concerning, though.

As someone remarked, dreadful loss to Errani for Kanepi. On grass, Kaia? You could only win five games?
The win for McHale over Mak was excellent. I thought Mak was the master of those extended three-setters but she has been one-upped!
It seems that McHale at 19 looks a lot better than Oudin at 18, huh?
Why did Venus elect to play in a plastic bag?
Berdych did well against Volandri. This is a big tournament for him. Another bad early loss wouldn't kill his ranking but it would raise questions about where he's going.
Didn't Gilles Muller beat Nadal here in 2005? Wasn't it him?
I have a small idea that Gasquet or Wawrinka might be tough for Murray in round 4.
For this event to truly pan out gloriously we need Lopez to come through the Roddick section. Revenge for Yeastbourne.

I don't know if there are any questions about where Berdych is "going". Last year's final changed nothing about the pattern of his career, which is: talented enough that he'll have the occasional huge run or big upset, consistent enough that he'll stay in the top 10-20, dumb enough that he'll never be a top player or really worry the Big Four or be in a Big Anything himself.

Really, Lex? I think it changed the pattern of his career what with being on the heels of almost reaching the French Open final. I think it showed what he could do when he's really playing well - he never had a result like that in prior seasons.
This year I think he comes in needing at least a QF to avoid losing all momentum. 2011 wasn't bad until the disaster in Paris.

It didn't change my opinion of him. It was like Gonzo, we all knew he had the talent for a result like that once in his career. And then it was like, oh, this is that time then. I don't think anyone thought he'd suddenly become an elite player after that.

I see Donald Young lost to US ABog. And pitifully. He clearly hates tennis. The time for a real job came loooong ago. Eh. I can't stand BELIEVE, but she has more potential. She can play great defense and smack her FH. McHale is just little grinder girl with no real weaknesses that you can't help but root for. And Makarova sucked. And I concur with the Berdych discussion. Although, I was surprised he maintained that level for as long as he did. He is soooo streaky.
