Good for Maria K! 24 of 28 net pts! She played so well tonight. Her first trip to USO 4th rd.
McHale's game to me does not look like Justine's. It looks like Woz's.

Stosur is winning, which I'm surprised by. That's not good for Bepa, nor anyone else on this board. Tuned in just in time to see her break as Stosur served for the match. How many MPs did Stosur have? God, I was gonna go to bed as well.

Stosur chokes her serve game. When will I ever learn that SEWTA matches are not over until they're over.
Why does Nadezhda have to be such a big gaudy blob.

How long has Roddick played like this? I know he's been pushed behind the baseline for years, but man... he just looks like he's SO far back this tournament. Around 2007. That along with his serve not being as effective in the past year or so has made him quite pedestrian.

`Wow. Stosur back from a break down in the third. I never would have thought. Without checking the h2h, I think Kirilenko can beat her, though. Well, the bottom half is cleared of bad possibilities, I think. I know some of you don't like Stosur but look at that last eight on the bottom. No Sharapova! Pennetta's first Slam final! You know she can beat everybody left.

Post by Pamela Shriver on Sept 3, 2011 3:08:08 GMT -5
So, letting off Serena for what clearly was a legitimate health problem/injury for the last year:
Is there any part of her that has to be thinking she could be the greatest female player EVER if she gave a damn for the majority of the last decade? Look, you don't have to be a fan (I certainly am not), but look at the ability, the talent, the intangibles. You care, you win anything, dear. And you avoid the conversation of SEWTA being retarded, which because of your lack of dedication/training/caring it is. Give a shit and save your sport, bitch.
All of that said, I hope Serena wins this and anything from this point forward for the next three years. She has the talent to showcase the sport, and at this point, that is exactly what is needed.

Post by lexpretend on Sept 3, 2011 3:33:05 GMT -5
I think the ship has long sailed on that one. And Serena has never given a damn about being GOAT statistically, like Roger does. She cares about mainstream public perception and she knows that doesn't have to tally with stats or facts. It's not just her who's at fault, though. Throw Justine, Kim and to a lesser extent Venus (before she became the sport's Sainted Ambassadress) in there too. And most of all blame the retarded WTA leadership over the years.
If Sharapova is Ma$ha, does that make Kirilenko Ma¢ha?

Post by Traveling Man on Sept 3, 2011 7:41:54 GMT -5
Yeah, the blame on this doesn't lie solely with Serena although she is to blame. Kim, Justine and Venus did their fair share in leading WTA to SEWTA, but to a lesser extent. It's no coincidence that the slamless #1's showed up in what should have been Serena's reign. Her apathy and indifference allowed it to happen. The Steffis and Monicas of the world never allowed players such as Gaby or Conchita to become #1. And without the stabbing it's doubtful ASV would have ever been #1.
Serena could have been GOAT. She probably won't end up as GOAT, but I think Slam titles within the Evert/Navratilova range is still within reach.

Justine? I thought she won about 7 titles one year. Hardly a Slam-only girl. And Kim used to let herself be bullied into playing practically every summer week in her pre-retirement career. Even Venus, after recovering from her sister's murder, tried to play a fair amount whenever she wasn't injured or ill.

Justine's in particular opened the door for Safina, Ivanovic and Jankovic to reach #1.

Yes. I'm not even sympathetic to their various ailments. If Rafa, who plays a more physical game than any of them, has lasted all these years with only minor injuries - nothing that took him out for close to a YEAR at a time - there's no excuse. They obviously weren't taking injury prevention as seriously as they should have.
Serena/Justine/Kim/Venus/(Maria) could have been the WTA's Roger/Rafa/Nole/Pony/(Anduh) over the past, like, eight years. We were robbed of that. By them.
