When I was scrolling down that draw I was convinced it was Janie who had posted it, due to the bolded names.
It's a weird thing to say, but Beck and Bertens have been playing at almost exactly the same level this year, with multiple 25K runs, except, er, Bertens won a SEWTA title.
LOL @ two Walking Byes drawing each other - Holland and Brémond.

Wow, you're right! I would have bolded all those names and matches except for Watson-Fichman, but of course a GBR vs CAN match does need to be bolded on this board. I would also have bolded Mt. Fuji for nostalgia. And of course Cepede Royg (PAR). Akgul's been injured again, so I don't hold out much hope for her.

I was rooting for her to win. So glad I didn't get my hopes up for Gise after seeing she took the first set 61. Oh women's tennis!

Satantseva is through, but Screecher de Screamo disappoints again!
The White Mug and Arriba Arriba both win their first matches, but each have a tricky second match, against Svitolina and BAGELzimer respectively, before they can set up the Battle of Young Spain.

The Sema sisters through to the 2nd round. Despite the horrible season they're both having.

www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/news/articles/2012-05-23/201205231337792135614.html"Slovenia's Petra Rampre, whom the French public first encountered during the Fed Cup play-offs on 21 and 22 April, was a favourite for the autograph hunters on this sunny Wednesday at the Porte d'Auteuil. Rampre is easy to recognise since she suffers from alopecia and always plays with a bandana on her head." Did we know this!??!? I certainly did not. Also, this: Surprise USian victory: Coco V. def 3-Knapp is an atrocity.

Yes, we did know that Petra is bald. I posted it here after seeing her play in Allentown a few years ago. Then I think last year I may have posted a link to a video interview with her where she discusses it. But what a sad, sad loss for her today. I know Cohen's game is improving, but sheesh, 3 games is all PR could manage?

I knew she was bald, or extremely short-haired with the bandana, but I didn't know it was alopecia.

Yeah, I didn't know that either, till I saw the video. I even asked a chair umpire who sat down next to me at Allentown, but she didn't know either. Incidentally, I think that umpire wanted to ask me out. She seemed to love me, and she asked if I would be in Boston for the 50K there.

Ha!! Maxim top 100, Special AARP edition? Sadly, I think this umpire was mostly excited by my easy familiarity with her world, as demonstrated by my knowing the players' names in r2 of a 25K, being impressed that she was set to umpire the next match, asking about Petra's head, etc.

Is everybody ready for the Yung! Jan! Chan! revival? Today was a good start on her road back to the top 100. She was in the YE top 100 for 4 years, top 110 for 5 years.

Rampre will always struggle against defensive players(her record against Fichman is 0-4) and Julia at the moment is playing with much more confidence than Petra who lost 3855886 three setters this year in which she had every chance to win it all.
At least this loss was quick and painless.

Today marked my first ever foray into tennis betting (why I waited til now I don't know) and I'm proud to say that the first player to win me money was...VESNA DOLONC. I also won ££ on Van Uytvanck, and was a point away from a clean sleep with Beck. Both Sema sisters winning Vandeweghe and Cohen I think her Fed Cup disasters might have ruined Rampre's career Akgul won 6-7, 7-5, 7-5 - she doesn't usually last that long in a match! Kinda of surprised that Robson beat Star Candle Head on clay, I forgot how Robson can suddenly peak at Slams though. Bremond won the battle of the Walking Byes. Jabeur's Hidden World record suggests she's a battler, so I'm not surprised she erased that deficit against Krunic. Watson's been having a poor season so she has a chance in the next round. Veronica Cepede Royg was top seed in a 25K this week; I'm not sure why she entered it and from the look of things neither was she: she tanked the 1R 0 and 3, hotfooted it over to Paris and took advantage of a friendly draw. First Paraguayan since RNDLR to win a Slam match, then. No Screecher/Devil Child marquee match IIRC Latisha Chan had an operation on her womb (!) in the off-season and only returned a few weeks ago.

Cohen vs. Davis, that should be an exciting hard-hitting match. I can't fault Cohen for qualifying, if it happens, that's for sure.

There were numerous reasons why I skipped the event.
I did find out that the Legg Mason is merging with the College Park SEWTA event to hold the "Citi Open" at Rock Creek (week of Olympics).
