Paszek-Wickmayer and Vinci-Lucic left in that section, four decent names with big chances now Vinci still has yet to make a Slam 4R, as good a chance as any here...

Amazing scream of delight from Lucic as she seals the win. So nice to see her with her game under control - when I saw her in qualies she definitely looked like she was on a mission, and she's blown this section wide open. A second SF run 13 years after her first is not out of the question...

Oh god, Lucic is one game away now. Petrova is 6-5 in the third against Babos. The WTA is well and truly a crapshoot now. Is Paire a bug server? Is that why Doggirlpileon is losing? Paire is a Dolgopolov-style flash'n'flair player who likes grass a lot more - not surprising to me.

Huhhhhh Nadezhda and Babos are at 7-7 in the third and it's not on a TV court!

A second SF run 13 years after her first is not out of the question... Oh, it really is, but a good run anyway. The first SF run would have been called out of the question at this stage, too! I don't think she'll actually do it, but we all know she's the Peak Pierce type who can overpower anyone if she doesn't make errors, which...she really isn't at the moment.

Oh, it really is, but a good run anyway. The first SF run would have been called out of the question at this stage, too! I wasn't sure about this, but you're right, she was on an 8000-match losing streak at the time. But...now she's 8000 years old. Add 3 qualifying wins and I can't see her winning 3 more. But stranger things have ha...no, nothing more strange than that has ever occurred.

Someone on TF pointed out that this is only the third time Lucic has reached the 3rd Round of a GS: 2001 RG, 1999 W and now here.
But IIRC, wasn't her loss to Novotna at the US Open in '97 a 3rd round as well?

But IIRC, wasn't her loss to Novotna at the US Open in '97 a 3rd round as well? Yes. She thrashed Kleinova and Rippner to get there. Stranger things: the first Pironkova SF? Care Bear at this stage of last year's USO? Lucic is highly unlikely but at least she has proven form here, even if 8000 years ago. Certainly her quarter is manageable.

Congrats to Janie on Lucic's win!!
I've been bored with this GS so far. Paszek easy win did bring me some delight though. Nice to see her follow up the 'big' 'upset' (*unlike certain people *Gulbis*)

Very good, Maria. Even though I, personally, would rather watch a Simon match than a Sharapova one.

Wow, much as I'd rather another match was on my TV, that was a dramatic end to that set. Fish had a MP on Ward's serve at 5-3, didn't take it, failed to serve out, looked completely flat and fatigued in the TB and DFed on SP.

Whatever part of this I may have once known, I had forgotten:
"Paszek was introduced to tennis by her mother, Françoise Paszek, at age four-and-a-half. Her mother is a Chilean-born Austrian; and her father is Ariff Mohamed, who is Tanzanian-born, Kenyan-raised Canadian of Indian descent." --wikipedia
Wow! That kid has a mighty big potential fan base there. Talk about spanning the continents!
