I think Kvitova should make the medal round I believe the final four will be Azarenka-Silliams and Clijsters-Kvitova. Perhaps Serena def. Kim for the gold, and Petra def. Vika for the bronze.

Is the Zheng thing some inside joke, or merely the Azn love that everyone has here.
I don't think she'll even beat Nadezhda on grass.

Serena crushes JaJa, Tsveti takes out SexyDomi, BAG d. McHale and Kim wins in straights. BUT... CSN d. Stosur 10-8 in the third. Hantuchova d. Li Tits lost to Cornet

Apparently Shitra is in FULL effect today. That's what I get for having faith. At least she's going to lose to K-Bond...not that she'll do anything with the draw afterwards.

Yesterday Paszek said that she "sees herself as one of the contenders for the gold medal."
Must have missed Cornet in that "vision".

Yep, it should have been Paszek and Watson in the gold-medal match. I blame, uh, the draw, yeah, the draw. And El Nino.

Serena crushing the ghost of Jankovic brings up sad memories of when Jelena could actually defeat her.
I think I only want Grassonkova to win!

Wozniacki loses first set to Keothavong. Had a break in the second but back on serve.
I will refrain from lulz smilies for the moment. Plenty of time for a comeback.

I honestly don't think she'll be playing for much longer. She looks miserable every time I see her. Of course, every time I see her lately, she is losing, so.

Anne Had to leave at the end of the first set but that would have been such an amazing win for her. Of course Baltacha draws Szavay CSN beating Stosur was hilarious. You'd think that Stosur had hit jackpot with someone she'd beaten on grass with ease a month ago and whose game is as ill-suited to the surface as her own, but no. Really quite surprised that Bepa beat the sometimes-dangerous Arvidsson. Apparently Paszek was carrying an injury? Not happy about Li losing to Hanturexia of all people. Li was my sentimental favourite for gold

Julia Goerges def. [2] Agnieszka Radwanska 75 67 64 I'm seriously loving this tournament so far! Not entirely sure how this happened, but I'm not complaining.

Good lord. Against Goerges of all people? Aga I'd like that SFist to be Kvitova or Pironkova, ideally, but as long as it's Not Kirilenko and Not Goerges I'll be happy.

A. Rat's loss was live and in full (I think) on ES1. ;D Oy vey. Petra had really better come through that section now. A. Rat was zero threat to Kvitova. Matchup issues. Main hurdle was and remains Pironkova. If Kvitova struggled so much vs K-Bond, what will she do vs Pironkova, who plays the same game only much better?

Oh, I agree that Petra was always going to pound Radwanska. Cf. my predictive post in the thread.
My point is: I like Radwanska, so if Shitra decides to play the end of one of her upcoming matches, at least I had Aga to come through instead. As Lex noted above, the other probable options in the fourth quarter are just too hideous to deal with.

And, as I said on Twitter, everyone needs to stop this Grassonkova Linsanity. Venus is not in her draw this year.
And I definitely do not agree that Pironkova does anything better than K-Bond except get into Venus Williams' head.

As Lex noted above, the other probable options in the fourth quarter are just too hideous to deal with. All of this, yes. This, no. Pironkova is legit good on grass and, more so than Paszek, it actually makes sense given her weird power/junk hybrid game. She definitely serves and moves better than K-Bond on this surface and arguably has a superior BH - and that's peak K-Bond, which is several years in the past. But more than anything else, Tsveti is just supremely confident on grass these days, maybe more so than her talent merits, but we know how mentality counts for a lot in Women's Tennis. Venus is not the only top player she's beaten on grass - there's Cake and Aga too, and she took a set off Petra when Petra was actually great. I don't necessarily think Tsveti WILL beat Petra but she can certainly annoy Shitra into emerging. Not that this is hard, these days.

"Grass"onkova's signature wins are a signifier of nothing else but the other players' fuckery.
Her CHR and career record - both containing TWO quality Wimbledon finishes - are what they are for a reason.

Radwanska lost in the first round? A month after getting past the BYE part of the draw to reach a GS final?

And I definitely do not agree that Pironkova does anything better than K-Bond except get into Venus Williams' head. I was going to bring up Pironkova's other quality wins on grass that lex mentioned. She gave Kvitova her toughest match during her title run last year by far. And like lex said, she really is that good on grass. Her game is built around her superb movement - she has a fairly low centre of gravity (partially due to her weird proportions - tall and lightly built but not leggy) and just glides over the grass. It's not just that grass happens to magnify her strengths and help hide her weaknesses, and her game isn't the random junkballing it may look like at times - I saw her play from up close at Eastbourne and she knows very well what she's doing.

Closest final set out of the two that Kvitova played that year Other players' fuckery and/or Pironkova's outsize confidence, whichever, the mentality is a crucial reason for Grassonkova.
