Why Sveta is not trying to play more forehand rallies? I mean what's a more obvious thing to do vs Woz?
*sigh*
Thankfully I need to go to sleep, cause work awaits tomorrow, so I won't see how their 3rd set ends.

This is getting uglier, wth is Woz bossing the play? You're right about Sveta's speed Lady, it's weird to see her stretching for Woz's predictable midpace balls all the time. At least she seems to have reined her tendency to go for absurd winners from bad positions.

That was a 60 something mph second serve. WTF Sveta!
In a mentally stable player this would be considered a tank.

Post by Wagasi on Jan 20, 2013 20:26:03 GMT -5
Sveta's an idiot.
So instead of trying dumb shots from unrealistic positions like old Sveta, NuSweater randomly stops being able to make standard shots. NuSweater also only has 1 serve in the ad court, a slow-ass unreliable kicker to the fh that doesn't seem to do anything. Her second serve on both sides spins right into Woz's bh strikezone every time. If for some reason a rally actually gets going, she gets herself out of court so that she can hit more inside out fh's which mostly don't do enough, miss completely, and/or leave her scrambling for the next ball.

Ha, the inevitable break after winning the first set. Kuz just being Kuz. Anyway she shouldn't have to worry about 1 measly break.Lady, you're right. I ALWAYS forget that Kuz is Kuz, after seeing her play perfectly for a little while. She can't sustain it, and I know that, but each time, I again think she can and she will. It will be very silly for her to lose this match, though. And I so want her not to be silly tonight.

I agree entirely with the above criticism of Sveta's play. Is there some reason she's giving Woz so many backhands to hit?
Incidentally, Kuz has lost a number of tough matches in the 4th round of Slams, a few of them to Woz. She lost to Woz at the USO in 2009 and 2011. Of course, we all remember two years back her loss to Schiavone here in round 4 wasting six MPs.

Post by Grarliner on Jan 20, 2013 20:50:17 GMT -5
Woz opens this game with two aggressive forehands and gets two points. I feel like she CAN hit a decent forehand but ... not ... enough. Or something.
And just as I say that, she hits a second serve waaay long on the forehand. Very bad.
Sveta just hit such a great slice forehand drop shot. I love it! Two BPs saved.
What a great point there! Sveta wins it with a lob and it is back to deuce. So how important was that 0-40 miss?
But again, Sveta gives her backhands and Woz drives one crosscourt to force the error.
Even the commentary has caught on. "If I was Kuznetsova, I'd be hitting 75% of my shots to the forehand."
Woz is furious after a forehand error on BP. She slams her racket to the ground!
Woz wins another point off her backhand. Another BP.
Is Kuznetsova mentally retarded? Again, hitting to the backhand. She deserved to be broken there.

Sveta is so infuriating. There are points where it doesn't make any sense why she's not taking this in a walk, then she goes and does that.
you have no business getting bossed around by the likes of Woz. She doesn't have much of a forehand, doesn't know how to hit a volley and gives you the same type of ball every time. Jesus.

Kuz's 1st serve is averaging around 86 mph right now. what the hell. She must be hurt, then. That makes no sense. I don't know, it might be another example of her brainlessness. She's doing mostly kick serves. She missed out on a break that last game because of tactical idiocy too. Whenever she had an opportunity she's either return straight to Woz's bh or hit an inside-out fh and be completely out of position for the next ball.
