Let's just cancel Murray-Simon.
Maybe Vesnina can just rid us of the Renka.
Which Frenchie do we think? I think Richard this time.

I'm not up on the men but has Tsonga already been written off as a never-going-to-be?
A real shame for the Frenchies, you get a generation of talented kids and they all turn out to be duds.

That seems a bit harsh.
I mean, never-going-to-be what? A Grand Slam champion? Probably not, honestly. Maybe if Rafa and Roger both retire in a year or two.
But that can't be the only measure of success. He's a pretty solid top ten player who wins a lot of matches and I expect him to continue to do that.

Tsonga has the ability to win a slam. But, will he ever stop his regular lapses on concentration and reach the top 4. No, barring the good players go away.

Tsonga has the ability to win a slam. But, will he ever stop his regular lapses on concentration and reach the top 4. No, barring the good players go away. Does he have that ability? I think the years of evidence proves otherwise. He has the ability to spring a big win now and then on the big stage but the problem with this era is you need to do that 2 or 3 times to take the trophy. I don't see him getting to the level where he can do that.

I am going to boldly go where no one has gone before -- the Kuz-Woz showdown! For as long as I can stand it, anyway.

If Kuz can keep her head from exploding, I don't see how Woz is going to ever be able to break her serve. Should be 63 64 or so

It's just so obvious how much of a better player Sveta is, and yet I wait for brainfart every moment. She leads 5-2 right now, but you never feel like it would last.
But it so so weird seeing Sveta in a dress.

Well that went much easier than expected, she's probably saving the crazy for the second set. Maybe I'm nuts but I really think she'll stay steady. She can see that Woz is erroring away out there, so she doesn't need to play her very best the whole time. That has to be a relaxing thought.

Post by Grarliner on Jan 20, 2013 20:03:01 GMT -5
Sveta did beat Woz last week so she knows she can.
It does seem like the layoff has reinvigorated Sveta. Even as she has struggled, she's always still had weapons. My recollection is that she turned into a UE machine ala Ivanovic and that has been the cause of her fall. But she's hitting well so far and as long as she remembers to aim for Wozniacki's forehand, I think she wins here.

Peter seemed unhappy with that last point and I can see why. Caroline hit a routine forehand so fluffy and spinny right in the center of the court.
But it doesn't seem to matter too much. In this game, one Kuznetsova winner, three Kuznetsova errors.
