Fred Stolle said Muzza is the fastest of the top four, according to my commentators. I think Nole and Rafa are still faster/in another league. I think it depends. Murray has better anticipation IMO and can hit amazing passing shots from deep behind the baseline. Novak's raw foot speed is perhaps marginally faster, and he can hit more explosively when pushed out wide, hitting blazing winners from insane positions - one of the things that distinguished Gluten Free Novak from non-Gluten Free. Rafa, is also good.

Post by Traveling Man on Jan 25, 2013 4:37:54 GMT -5
Murray's had chances in all but one or two of Roger's service games but he's not doing a good job of converting and jumping ahead. This could get tricky if he keeps letting Federer stick with him because it's not like all these chances will keep coming again and again (such as Federer's serve deserting him).

It's weird that Rog is actually hitting the backhand better than serve and forehand today.
Muzza is serving very well tonight. I feel like if he can be overwhelming like this on his service there will be continual pressure against Rog.
That said, I don't think Muzz can play an entire match like this. If Fed can take care of his serve, I think he will have his chances eventually.

Memories of the Wimbledon final when Murray had real chances to go two sets up but didn't.

Rog is starting to try the backhand down the line which is a major asset if he can do it consistently. That shot can give him a chance to break open the rallies and give him a forehand to hit next ball.
By the way, anybody recall a match where Fed has hit more let first serves?

It's weird that Rog is actually hitting the backhand better than serve and forehand today. Around 70% of Murray's balls are going to Fed's backhand. Federer hasn't had as many opportunities to hit the forehand while in a strong position.

I feel PMac has a point about Roger standing so close to the baseline on people's first serves. It's probably a big reason why he isn't as good a returner as the other guys. Sometimes, just sometimes, it would probably help to drop back.
