Ugh, looks like two amazing matches happened during the night. Your time zones offend me.
Yet another super-close match that Stan loses this year. I really feel for him, how much more can he take of this?
It surprises me less that Ernie pushed Rafa, with his game and form and Rafa's hard court game being an unknown factor. Also unsurprised that he lost.
So the Roger/Rafa QF will be hugely interesting and again your offensive time zones will mean I can't watch. I mean...Roger really should win, at this point. But these courts are very slow.

I hate American time-zone, I'd love to see both of these matches. Happy Rafa won, and I truly hope that Ernests (who had a name day yesterday, btw) won't start sucking now.

Gulbis has really made a lot of noise these past two weeks - hope he can keep the ball rolling in Miami.
I am not a fan of the time-zone either!
I read on Yahoo! that Murray was playing against the "grunting" Berlocq. Also, it apparently took ages and had a ton of service breaks. SEWTA.

Most Americans hate the pacific time zone, too. Not me, though.

He's not that sharp yet.

Rafa is hitting the backhand very, very crisply.
I feel like the seventh game was another classic Rafa-breaks-from-nowhere-because-Fed-error-showed-up game. Fed had 40-15.
Rafa has been absolutely cruising on serve so far ...

Seems like Rafa's going to run away with this now. Roger is NOT looking good.

Rafa was up two breaks in the second set; about to lose them both.

So ... this match is just weird.
Roger looked like he was about to die in the first three games, lost his serve twice ... suddenly, he starts hitting some decent shots, gets a break back and then cruises through a service game in the vintage style to pull to 3-2. So is he actually hurt or not? He looked great in the last game, flying into forehand winners. He looked horrible in the games beginning the set.
Toni said a long time ago that Roger has a terrible attitude against Rafa and I have to agree. He goes away mentally. If he was able to stay stable emotionally, he'd do better. He gives Rafa games with mindless errors.

Now Rog seems to have lost focus again. Three straight backhand errors. Four.

He's up two breaks again and serving for the match.

Roger was never into the match. Maybe the injuries, maybe just seeing Rafa again, but for whatever reason he had nothing. I'm more interested to see what a healthy, non-jaded Berdych can do before I'm willing to declare Rafa BACCKKKKK!!!111112

You're right. It was a curiously subdued performance from him. People are talking back injury. I guess he'll have plenty of time to recover during his two month vacation coming right up.

When I woke up to see this score, my first thought was that Rafa is really still in Rog's head. Notwithstanding Rafa's advantages in the H2H - Rafa's first hard court tournament in a zillion years, Gulbis pushed him hard, and Roger can't even get a set?
Like Hurley says, Berdych will be a litmus test. I don't worry about Rafa, though - given how long he was out for, I think this comeback is going terrifically so far.

Oh, man. I definitely expected a more competitive match, and in fact I thought Rog could win it, for once. Why do these tennis players have to be so human?

Pretty woeful stuff from Tsonga so far. No fight, no belief, no hitting balls in court.

Nole is flawless, albeit Tsonga is permitting him to play well within himself.

6-3, 6-1 in 53 minutes. Should have been a bagel in the second set, Nole had BP in that game. Embarrassing for Jo.

Muzza Pony is quite an interesting match. And fun. Muzza went 5-2 up then double faults/gags on the next point to get back to 5-4 on serve. Then wins a mammouth 40 shot rally or something and takes the set eventually.
Pony's BH has been club level at times (injuried?), and Muzza's game seems to have been retooled slightly again since the AO - he's going for his shots even more now, really taking on the ball and moving up into the court. Very nice to see.

No real shocks - expected Nole to win and Muzza to lose. Muzza's been playing poorly all tournament long. So...Nole wins this and extends his winning streak to...20?

You're boycotting this tournament too, like the Sistahz?
Delpo serving for the second set at 5-2 gets broken.
