Aww, Delpo won! What fun! I want all the top guys to be afraid of Delpo.

A Del Pony type is needed in the big 4. I approve.

Oh, tennis! I should follow this tournament. You can follow the men's final, at least! That could get you in the mood for the upcoming SNE (Sony Not Ericsson) Open in Miami, in the somewhat more Russia-friendly Eastern Time Zone (Daylight Saving Time).

Del Potro was so good the last two matches. He's hitting the ball like it's 2009.
Nobody can hit a forehand as hard as him, can they?

Rafa def. Tomas 6-4 7-5 Tomas had a *5-3 lead in the second but framed a smash on BP down and that was that. That was at 5-5. Rafa broke him pretty decisively to love at 5-3.

Delpo delivered! I'll be happy with whoever wins the final.

So happy that Delpo's challenging the Big Four. I hope he wins the final.
I thought IW was meant to be the slowest court ever and impossible for him to hit through defenders on, though? Or was that just basher fans whining.

The conditions are very dry with no elevation so it plays slow, but it's a high bouncing court. Probably favors bug servers the most.

I thought it was a weird mix of slow, grainy court + thin desert air. Actually it almost sounds like truly fair court conditions. The only other place I can think of where literally any game style has a shot is Melbourne.

Bamos. From 3-0 it's now tied at 4-4 in the 1st.

Pony's bludgeon forehands are a bit too much for Rafa now - he's about to serve for the set! Bit of a collapse from 3-0 up, 2 BPs.

I was thinking JMDP would win this before the match started. At 0-3, I repented for my foolishness. But man, have the tables ever turned.

You know, it's matches like this which make this era so great. They happen every tournament!
The big man is on fire right now. Rafa is doing his greatest of all time defending but it's not working right now.

God, three totally insane points to end the set (two won by Nadal). Men's tennis.
In awe.

Third set! Pony sloppy at the end. Tiredness? Hopefully not.
Rafa slightly more aggressive too there.
Tough to call. Could be 62 to either player I feel.

That was a truly impressive comeback from Rafa, I thought he was going down for sure.
Three consecutive titles. Not half bad.

Wish I'd seen any of the weekend's matches. Damn dinner parties. Delpo I hope to hear no more doom-mongering about Rafa, though. Really superb comeback. I didn't realise Nole was actually 3-0 up in the third set over Delpo. Only a break, but you'd expect him to close from there.

The final game got back to 30-30 and Novak made an error on a rally ball backhand slice. I was shocked. I can't remember the last time he made a dumb error at such a critical point.

DFs on BPs in every set he lost in last year's RG final, IIRC? Something like that.
Sometimes I think what sets the top players apart isn't how badly/well they play on big points, but if they hit a dumb error or their non-elite opponent hits a great winner on what we think is a big point, the top player can put it behind them and go on to carve out another, bigger point, and do so a lot more often.
