Bouchard beat Stosur, but Sam is clearly carrying the injury from IW as it was a ret.

A lot happened today. Venus and Serena won twice, Jankovic continues to roll, and, hilariously, Voegele beat Wozniacki. So the semis are Venus/Serena and Jaja/Voegele.

This JaJa revival seems unending and I love it. Also, stunned and can't stop laughing at the Voegele win.

Woz was up a break in the third, too. Not that that matters.
Anyway, I'm amazed that Venus is winning matches again. Now she should withdraw from the semi just like the good ol' days.

The most amazing thing about Woz's fails is that even now, when I pretty much pick any half-decent, half-intelligent player to take her out in any given event (eg, the White Mug in Miami), they can still be totally unexpected. Like this! Happy for Voegele, last time she was in the top 100 I seem to recall thinking she had a nice game - didn't know why she fell out again. That's an impressive pair of wins in one day for Venus. Wow, the first all-Williams match in four years, and at this point in time it actually holds some nostalgic appeal. JaJa is undefeated on clay in 2013 9-0 She hasn't faced anyone in the top 80 yet A chance to make it 10-0 without facing a top 60 opponent And then a quickly ensuing double bagel to Silliams

Just realised that with her b2b wins over Gorgeous and Woz here, Voegele is truly doing God's work in Charleston

I think Serena will tank and let Vee make the final, where she will lose to rampant JaJa.

I don't think she'll deliberately tank, but it's impossible to imagine she'll be able to bring herself to go all-out against her sister who's been struggling so much. But if Venus is somehow still feeling fine after 5 sets yesterday, then she's in a real doozy of a remission phase in her illness, and I hope it will last forever.

I'm so glad I didn't change the channel when I tuned in at 5-1 in the first set for Woz. It was truly spectacular shotmaking from Voegele. It wasn't really that Wozniacki was playing badly, but Voegele was crushing every single weaker or shorter shot from her. Great match. She can beat JJ if she plays like that again.
I too think Serena will thank.

I expect the match will be odd, but all-Williams matches have rarely gone the way you'd expect them to if the sisters were concerned about who needed the win more. Janie's point about the psychology is why it'll be interesting to see...

It wasn't really that Wozniacki was playing badly, but Voegele was crushing every single weaker or shorter shot from her. Great match. Wow! Shocker. I assumed it was just another case of wimp Woz, though she usually does well in these matches against scrubs. Maybe Voegele is emerging from scrubland? But I feel bad for Woz, the titlist here 2 years ago. Not saying I liked Woz at #1 or even #5, but sheesh, she should still be good enough to stay in the #8 - 12 range. This kind of loss, at this event where she prospered before, makes that idea seem kind of iffy. Does she actually belong at #25? Anyway, who cares, because excessively-sinking Woz is way more than made up for by the surprise JJ resurgence. May it continue all season!

Ofcourse this is many years ago now, but I knew Venus would win their 2000 Wimbledon SF even though Serena was playing the best tennis of anyone in that tournament. I have never thought they rigged their matches - it was more about how this was Venus' time.

Lawl, Serena is basically just pushing disinterestedly and Venus cannot hit a ball in the court at all.

6-1, 6-2. I think that's the most lopsided scoreline in their rivalry, right?

Venus saving her worst tennis for the last game of each set. Serena in practice session mode throughout.

Glad she won, though. :yeah: But I'm also glad it's over. Venus was probably running on fumes. Five sets of singles tennis almost surely caused a relapse of her medical condition, so she was probably extremely .

Voegele takes the second set on her fifth SP after it looked like she was choking it away. (Really good tactics to turn it around from a break down - suddenly started going for her FH, which had previously been her weaker wing. Her improved play was what triggered JaJa's mood, obv.)

Voegele needs 5 setpoints to take us to a third set. Hope JaJa doesn't collapse now - I want her in the final!

Ben Rothenberg @benrothenberg 1m Jankovic doesn't call her coach, but yells at him from comfort of chair, then slumps dramatically on couch. The Passion of the JJ. #FCC2013

Shades of Myskina I meant in terms of coach berating, not in terms of whatever the shit she's doing on court now. This new Stefi is good.

JaJa still unbeaten on clay She hasn't faced a top 50 opponent in her 10-0 clay streak but half of those matches have been three-set shitfests.
