Zuzana Kucova!?
Is that like her comeback tour or a farewell tour? She hasn't played for ages and comes out of nowhere popping out in a premier QD.

No, the only exciting return is that of GREAT ARN.

That draw does look good. But I think this event could be the (non-Slam) SEWTA swan song for me. I mean, I just can't care about a sport where Sharapova is the best clay court player (!) out there. If she wins this again I'm going to retreat to my Hidden Worlders and, of course, Slams, on the women's side. Of course if one of the few players I like would only step up once in a while, that would change my mind for me. But they seem to be a hopeless bunch. Kuz denied a WC here. Another reason to hate SEWTAworld. #grandmagrump

I see that Beck and Petkovic got two of the wild cards, so, I mean, look, those are understandable.
I'm guessing a seed got the third wild card so...it depends. But wild cards at these big events are hard to come by.
Sweater is outside of the Top 40 still, and she just isn't a superstar for whatever reason. The climb back is hard. She also could have gotten in AND been seeded at Marrakesh.

GER has too many promising youngsters (plus Petkorazzi) to be criticised for WC choices. (Witthoeft also won a round in qualies, and Friedsam has won two - one over Peng.) This tournament is always stacked. The WTA don't control the WCs, either.
Still sucks that the WC rejections have been piling up for Sweta this year.
The sundry comebacks you all were getting excited about ended 0-3 in matches, 1-6 in sets. Only Drug Cheat BZS acquitted herself respectably, losing 5-7 in the third to Lucic.

And, yeah, of course you guys are right about the reasonableness of the WC choices. But it's the piling on of the rejections referred to by Alex that makes it seem shabby. Haven't seen the likes of it for other multiple Slam winners.

Mirjana on fire against Vesnina. I sort of expected a win - she leads the h2h 2-0 and is on a roll from qualies - but this dominant scoreline is a surprise. Still, she's barely putting a foot wrong - both rallying sensibly and hitting blazing winners, coming through most of the close games...

Barely a foot wrong, until choking for the match there

Mirjana breaks Vesnina for the match! I think this just about secures Wimbledon MD entry for her. Interesting match against Li next.

A disgusting tankjob from Barthel. She should be heavily fined. And needs fired.

That Mona! I'm wondering if Woz is even going to be in Slam-seed territory by the end of the season. She's not even a very good journeywoman-level player right now.

LOL, at home as well?
CSN played wonderfully to beat Woz 7-6, 6-1. Always nice to see talent win out.
Wozniacki whined about almost every close call and was just in a sulk by the end. She had more fun as Rory's caddy.

One little tournament can be responsible for such a great amount of evil!

Vandeweghe on her Stanford final too. On the plus side, when the falls cometh, they will be spectacular; and in the meantime, it can mean some friendly betting odds. Shvedova won a match again - over in-form Vinci JaJa beat Stosur

Shved just backed it up with a win over CSN. I hate her and her unpredictability.
Shitra-NaNa could be a shitfest for the ages.

Shitra-NaNa could be a shitfest for the ages. Na was very good and focused against Lucic. I predict an easy win for her. Amazed (but happy) that Shitra survived Gorgeous. Fed Cup took it out of the Italians, huh? Ew, a random Lisicki run is manifesting.
