Hard to believe this is still the same day we started off watching old-skool tennisiste Dustin knock off Hewitt. Like in a movie, we ended up with a different old-skool tennisiste knocking off Federer. By now, Sharapova's loss is like a footnote! Sharawho?

THE HAIR will serve for the set. I always forget - who is THE HAIR?

THE HAIR will serve for the set. I always forget - who is THE HAIR? Vesna Dolonts/Dolonc whatever she's called these days.

I'm rooting for Flipkens to make the final. She should beat all these bums.

"When you play against Federer, you play against 2 people, Federer and his ego" Stakhovsky LOL. DID HE REALLY SAY THAT? God, today was incredible. I'm a bit sorry that I spent the entire day yelling at people at work and missed it all. On the bright side, I'm currently inundated with amazing Wimbledon news! It's hitting me all at once! SO GREAT NEED CAPS LOCK

Officially the best 1st week day of any slam. It could even be the beginning of the end for Bimbledon! God willing!

Not the exact words, but yes he said that minutes after winning.
Move Bimbledon to Wuhan now!

This was just the worst day at work ever and all of this happened. I can't...I just can't.

I'm rooting for Flipkens to make the final. She should beat all these bums. I definitely thought she'd beat JaJa. QF at least, SF if Shitra continues as expected. If Giorgi beats CAKE, as she did a few weeks ago in Strasbourg, and Cetkovska beats Stephens...the third quarter is anyone's.

This was just the worst day at work ever and all of this happened. I can't...I just can't. I also had the worst day at work. Somehow, all of this amazing news makes the last 12 hours irrelevant. Everybody dying at Wimbledon, sometimes in hilarious fashion, is all I need in my life now. It's good.

This RF loss would be so much more enjoyable if he was beaten by a likable, untwitish man.
And that comment after the match... Pots and kettles, Stak. Enjoy these 45 hours or so. You know it wont last.

So the real quote from Stak seems to have been:
"When you play Roger Federer on Centre Court at Wimbledon, it's like two against one. You play Roger Federer the person and Roger Federer the champion here where he is historical."
-- as per ESPN
Oops!

lol. "Roger Federer the champion here where he is historical". Yeah, that sounds like something that somebody would actually say. I'm surprised ESPN doctored his quote and made it lame.

So the real quote from Stak seems to have been: "When you play Roger Federer on Centre Court at Wimbledon, it's like two against one. You play Roger Federer the person and Roger Federer the champion here where he is historical." -- as per ESPN Oops! nj.com has the correct quote: "When you play Roger Federer at Wimbledon it's like you are playing two persons. First you play Roger Federer, then you play his ego, and on the Centre Court of Wimbledon, where he is historical. So that's like playing two against one."

Now it sounds like he played 3 people! Anyway the first quote was the best version, for sure. The ESPN one was probably edited by Roger's mom.
I'm sad to see that Paean says Stak is a jerk. I know nothing about the guy, so I'm going to ignore this and continue to root for him and his old-school game.

Stakhovsky is the loudest opponent of equal prize money for the women, FYI.

I think the most gutting losses were Petko's and Jaja's. Seems like Petko in particular saw a shot for a really deep run and blew it. Jaja...whatever. She needed ONE MORE WIN for the Top 10 and this is what she does. Kirilenko might actually hold her #10 spot at this rate.

JJ blew it the most. The draw opened up perfectly for her. Petkovic isn't nearly back to her previous level yet. And she looks a lot thinner

JJ had two really good shots to bring back the career at RG and here. She's getting up there. Gotta wonder how many more chances there will be, especially with her history.

Well ... that was insane.
I felt like Roger was going down when I was watching the beginning of the fourth. If he'd been able to get the early break, he may have rolled. But ... WHY COULDN'T HE GET IT? He was SO BAD on breakpoints and they cost him the match.
Also, why not challenge your winner at 1-1 30-15 which was called out? If he does that, he holds and is never broken there.
It is the end of an era, truly. 36 consecutive QFs! I stand in awe of that.
I wonder how Roger will respond to this. It's been a very poor year by his standards and there's no reason for it to get better now that he'll be #5. The big problem this year seems to be the forehand. He is making a surprising amount of errors off his best shot and it's costing him matches.
Anyway, good for Sergei. Who says serve and volley is dead? I hope he goes far.
Sharapova is out? Thank the Good Lord.

Roger is really stuck at #5, too. He'll be at least 1000 points behind Dave with stuff to defend coming up, and there's no excuses. It just gets harder from now on. It will be interesting to see how he responds, because this is his first real slap in the face.

How many top ten wins this year for Rog? 1, right? Tsonga at the AO?
