Feels like about time for Serena to tank one.

I wouldn't count on that.
Keys w/d, her US swing really has not gone as planned. Same for Burdette, who broke through so spectacularly last year but is 0-3 so far this year (she lost to Puig). Disappointing losses for both the youngest and oldest players in the Q draw - Vekic lost to Dulgheru, Mrs Krumm to Tatishvili.
Peng got the Woz jackpot!
Safarova vs Barthel? Spectators should wear body armour for that one. Imagine the UE count.

Alisa Taking advantage of a good draw in Arvidsson. Final set TB - hope it doesn't take too much out of her. Kirilenko almost lost to Tatishvili, another third set TB. Hopefully Safarova or Barthel finish the job in R2.

Misread that post and thought you said Kirilenko DID lose to AT. I don't mind her losing but don't want AT to be the one to get that "big" win. I admit my dislike of AT goes back to her insanely excessive wild card gifts as Chris Evert's darling, but that was years and years ago, so you'd think I'd be neutral toward her by now. Never! Anyway, glad MK squeaked by her in the end. But I'd love to see either Mona or Lucie go farther.

Glad to see Hampton pulled that one out. I was going to have to jump off the bandwagon if she lost to Pavs.

Ivanovic loses to Cornet after blowing three consecutive matchpoints in the second set tiebreak, which I was going to say was probably her worst loss of the year before remembering that Babos and Morita have beaten her.

Losing to Stephens, especially at a non-Slam event - that's sinking even lower than losing to MLDB at Wimbledon. LOL! Lady JaJa took out Lisicki in three.

Wow. Sharapova lost despite being up a set and 2-0, and despite Sloane choking? "In a match that lasted 2 hours, 22 minutes, Stephens overcame losing the first set and the first two games of the second and double faults on two match points to pick up her first victory over Sharapova in four meetings." What fun this must have been to watch! Good for Sloane, refusing to go by the playbook. Jimmy Connors must have been having a fit.

LMAO @ those stats. The Stephens hype will be unbearable now, I guess all we can do is wait until she DOESN'T win Slams.
Well done JaJa, proving yourself useful for once.

Tauzita: "elle est en panique", "elle a peur", "elle recule".

I'd panic, too. Scared to win and get a ball shoved down my f* throat in the lockerroom. Anyway, after the Sloane upset, it was inevitable that life would settle back into the usual playbook mode.

What I quoted was what she was saying to Bouchard after the first set. Serena was the one who was afraid... for a while.
On a related note, I can't see how coaching help the player in any way during a match. It probably just put more pressure rather than helping.

What I quoted was what she was saying to Bouchard after the first set. Serena was the one who was afraid... for a while. Oh! I really got that wrong. But in the end the usual scenario prevailed anyway. Maybe Eugenie doesn't understand French. The coaching does seem to be useless. Once in a blue moon I've seen a player come back out after a word with coach and start playing with a whole new strategy, but most players don't have even a 2nd strategy to turn to, no matter what the coach might hope.

Maybe Serena overheard Tauzita!
Genie played pretty well there for a while. Definitely a good sign, even if this is Serena's token tank event.
Jank beat Makarova in 3 today as well. She ... is definitely winning more matches than is customary.
Surprisingly, Wozniacki has won consecutive matches. 1 and 1 against Peng and 4 and 3 against Niculescu. I'm a little shocked.

Yes this Wozniacki resurgence troubles me Definitely a winnable match against Shitra now. Remember when they were the top two players in the world?
Didn't watch any matches but from what I've read Serena was horrendous in that match and Eugenie was a spectator.

I was afraid to look at the scores this morning, worried that Li really did go on and lose to little Lauren. Looks like she must have suddenly woken up after that first set.
