Might as well start another day thread in case someone shows up. So here it is. Pennetta is on fire in the only singles match that's underway yet.

Kerber's attitude leaves a lot to be desired. I admit if I were a tennis player, I'd have a bad attitude, too, if someone comes out playing the way FP's been doing so far in this match. In fact I'd probably be another MLDB, minus the screeching.

Off-topic, but I couldn't help but notice the GLARING SILENCE of American media comments following Don Young's lopsided loss. Can hardly find a word from anyone, anywhere about it; I'd have liked to read Young's own comments. But no, he's gone from American Hero to nonexistent nobody. Meanwhile, Kerber took the traditional SEWTA-losing-player bathroom break and is trying to turn this into an actual match, starts out with a break, unseen by us on TTC so they could show us talking heads. But we did get to see Flavia's immediate break back.

Care Bear trying hard to be the boss on her serve points now, and sometimes it's working as she runs FP from side to side. But can she keep it up?

AK (why so many AK's in this sport!) broken right back again. Despite AK's increased aggressive play, FP is not letting up so far.

And Kerber takes the set, having cowed Flavia into playing feebly. Who knows what the heck the 3rd will bring. I'd love to see both playing great at the same time, hitting deep, killing those sharp angles, rushing the net. We'll see.

Pretty good match! Flavia was choking badly near the end of the match, but for some reason Angie was unable to jump on her, and in the end, she was the one who petered out.

Now we have BAG/Bouchard in the final losing to Ma$ha/Vika.
Current tennis is an austere, faded and vile misery.
I'm only watching 1970-May 2005 matches on Youtube.

Wow, that's just crazy. BAG almost played the whole match like a number 1.
Serena tanked the last game in a half. She took no time at all between points after she saved the first match point, then half-played the last game.

More than BAG's annoying fanbase, the media has to take the "pretty" girl seriously into her 30s now. The last thing that SEWTA needed.

I generally don't care that much about her results one way or the other, but in matches that matter (i.e. her vs. Serena, Maria, etc.) I'm pretty solidly on her side.

Ma$ha should be on the top of the heap in that category for a while. In related news, I was having conversation with a friend the other day about how Maria was not aging well.

Oh that's just fucking great. Now we see Azza bullshit her way to another Aussie Open title. That...would not be the worst case scenario coming out of this tournament. It definitely is - either her or Maria winning would be awful but Azza is just the fucking worst. Once you filter through the Bouchards and Ivanovics who don't have a hope in hell of winning, it's essentially Azza, Masha or Li. And sadly Li will not win.

Makarova, Stephens, Ivanovic - Serena really specialises in the most WTF losses possible in Australia these days. Wow, entire tournament dynamic turned on its head.
Really though, BAG looked like the same mentally weak, one-dimensional, desperate joke vs Stosur that she's been since 2008. No way can I understand this result apart from "has Serena's USO complex shifted to the AO?"
