I'm not really following Wimbledon at all because of the World Cup... is a real thing that I just wrote, which is true.

Kerber takes out Ma$ha on her seventh MP. This has turned into quite a cool tournament on the women's side.

Cynicole! Wow, that's a flash from the past. What fun for you, especially now that you can freely enjoy (at least the women's side of) Wimbledon.

Yeah, I wish Rafa would try harder to keep this 'good results' track going.

He just likes to relax a little in the first set, that's all.

Oh no! Just saw this now; I'm shocked. But at least he lost to someone likable. That's important.

Yeah, the women's tournament is fun now. But "fun" tournaments often end terribly. (last year, Dementieva vs Myskina, etc).

Oh, and I would love to go to Riga! The problem is that I'm working 7 days a week and I'm not sure if and when I'll be able to go.
Tallinn is nice but it's SO COLD and rainy.

Andy looking just awful so far. Not even sure why I'm rooting for him, but I am. I guess for Britain's sake. Bouchard snd Halep both looked great.

Really, it's hard to root for Andy when he's playing this way. It's Grigor who's playing like the defending champion here; his game is as On as Andy is Off.

So first two sets to Grigor, who is playing pretty much perfectly. And whose game is much more fun to watch than Andy's defensive game, which today remimds me of Amelie's terrible passive game when she would get nervous. I'm still trying to root for Andy. but probably if GD was not connected to MS, I would happily jump ship.

Okay, never mind, I give up, I just can't root for Andy while he's playing this terrible way, giving up simple UEs right when he could have an advantage. I remember switching allegiance from Mauresmo to Dementieva in a USO match in this same way.

So disappointed for poor Stan, even though it was great seeing Roger play so well. And John McEnroe was outstanding in the commentary box today, at the very top of his game.

You guys, I can't do twitter. Everyone's already said everything there is to be said about the smallest thing as soon as it happens, so there's no way to add anything original and I just end up retweeting Hurley over and over. It was a weird Canada Day yesterday, actually having players to root for in the second week of Wimbledon. I dislike both their games but it's so strange to have top 10 players who are worthy of being taken seriously.

I dislike both as well, but at this point, it's hard to not cheer for them, if only for the boost of popularity it would give to tennis in Canadia if one of them win the tournament.

I'm neutral toward Bouchard; so far, I have nothing against her, and I like her mental strength, so rare in SEWTA. I also love the idea of Canada being one of the big tennis countries, so for that reason I like the concept of Wownic -- but am not at all wowed by his game. Wagasi, I'm coming to like Twitter less and less, now that I've used it for a while. So I was really relieved to see that a few people are still showing up here at the Cult during Slams. On Twitter, I posted what I thought was pretty danged interesting, that Sharapova's avg. first serve speed in her match yesterday was about the same as Kvitova's SECOND serve speed. But no one responded to that. I think it's kind of fascinating, because Sharapova's serve seems to still be regarded by the media as some scary weapon, when all it really is, is an average-speed serve with a horrific shriek accompaniment. I assume the players' coaches are trying to tell them this, but the media wants to stay completely ignorant of it. Today I had so much fun watching parts of 4 matches -- but then forgot it wasn't over after Stan's match. So I missed seeing Kyrgios.

Oh: and why does Boris Becker look 55 years old, while Edberg looks almost the same as he did when he was playing? #truelove

Sharapova 2.0 is such a weird player. She goes through all the motions of a big babe but really has a basic grinding game that relies on depth and consistency. Bouchard herself is not so different from that. Her game looks like it was assembled on the island of misfit toys. The strokes are all semi-home-made looking and have no reason to hold up as well as they do. I'll still cheer for her though. It's interesting that one semi has two mentally tough grinders and the other brittle and flashy Czechs.

Yeah, Halep vs Bouchard should be good.
The Serena incident is so weird.
