ESPN, ugh. "Tennis darling", "superstar", fangurl interview; was it even that bad with Kournikova?

Oh my God, are you kidding? With Kournikova the media was totally out of control. At least in England, France, Australia; a little less here in N. America but still very bad.
But I'm speaking from the US. I'm sure in Canada, the Bouchard reaction is insane.
So sad for Halep today. And I don't get why the crowd was so much for Eugenie.

It hasn't been so crazy so far, thankfully. The Genie army shit still seems restricted to casual-ish tennis fans (basically the people who make up most of the crowd in the Toronto/Mtl events--they subscribe to the tennis Canada magazine and go to the garden parties but would have difficulty naming any players outside the top 10). What this is sure to do nevertheless, is incite a deluge of Canadians to sign up for TF and MTF. like all those random Belgians who used to post in the early 2000's or all the Danes who showed up when Woz became good.

Ha! As if every other tennis player is familiar with cricketers.
Have to say I appreciated the silence of the players during points today, even if I was disappointed by Halep's loss. Things just didn't line up for her this week, what with 3 back-to-back matches, twisted ankle today, let cord going against her. Really hope she'll be the one who gets all the good luck another time.
Meanwhile, the media is so frustrating. Kerber is big news one day because she beats Ma$ha, but the next day I can't find a single quote from her, following her QF loss. Will check the Wimb. site now to see if they bothered putting up an interview, or if they prefer she just vanish from view like the media does.

Her progress is a big news story and unless you're living under a rock you know who she is, but I don't think that kind of coverage is all that unusual. Most of her results end up on the Metro's TV news feed, which is kind of cool. I don't see Raonic covered as much, but he's not from Quebec. Anyway, I'm quite pleased. I plan on watching the final on Saturday, possibly at a bar if I can drag some people with me. The Serena thing was really strange. Echoing other people's point, I don't even know why she walked on the court.

I'm glad it's not insane there! If she wins, of course, it might be more so. I somehow seem to be rooting for Nole in this match. Is it because the camera keeps going to WAG Ma$ha, and the commentator keeps talking about her? (What she said to Grigor, where she might have sat instead of in the player box, blah blah). I'm not a Nole fan, and don't think I have anything else against Grigor, and he's definitely fun to watch, so that must be it. Break up with her so I can root for you, kid.

I liked her more when she was a crypto-lesbian. The Tendulkar thing is funny, the Indian blogs are infuriated that she doesn't know the Pele of cricket (basically), a bunch of US sports blogs are shocked that cricket is even still a thing. It's like the world's second most followed sport but unheard of in the Americas and continental Europe so they're both right in being shocked.

dear friends, repost it again and again Dear Maria Sharapova, U were fully aware of Sachin Tendulkar, yet said this just to insult him. in d year 2003, Canon wanted to shoot a ad with both of you, then it did not happen, bcoz Sachin sir did nt sign as it cn create conflict with Airtel. BARAK OBAMA-"My country's production is going down when he is batting," "I dont knw abt cricket, but I njoy his batting," p.s-even ur country's production goes dwn when u play. Wwe player John Bradshaw-"He is 1of d greatest" DANIEL RADCLIFF-"I am a big fan of Sachin." PETER ROBAQUE-"This man can stop time in India," MATHEW HAYDEN-"I hv seen god.he plays for India" TIME MAGAZINE-" When SACHIN TENDULKAR made his debut, Pete Sumpras was yet 2 win a Grand slam,Maradona wS d captain of Argentina, Roger Federar was a name unheard of,Schumacher yet to race a F1,Lionel Messi was in his nappies, Usain Bolt was a kid in Jamaica (Maria Sharapova was in her nappies) and Russia was a big united USSR.,....we may hv many legends. but we never hv a # SACHINTENDULKAR and we nver will" billions dont switch off their lives and switch on their tv when u play, USA's production never fall down when u play,(Not even ur own country's), Time never stops in Russia when u play, No1 of ur field called u a goddess, u did not turn a game into a relegion, but d opposite of all these statements r true in d case of Sachin Tendulkar.

Hahahaha!! That cricket thing kills me. For once, I'm on Sharapova's side. Actually, twice: I don't blame the world's obesity crisis on her candy biz. I didn't see much of the first semi today; was it good? Exciting? Fabulous tennis? I did see Nole give away the 2nd set in a SEWTAesque manner. The 2nd semifinal, I found soperific. That was okay, though, because I slept poorly last night and was in the mood for a nap.

You guys, I can't do twitter. Everyone's already said everything there is to be said about the smallest thing as soon as it happens, so there's no way to add anything original and I just end up retweeting Hurley over and over. It was a weird Canada Day yesterday, actually having players to root for in the second week of Wimbledon. I dislike both their games but it's so strange to have top 10 players who are worthy of being taken seriously. Isn't it?! Remember when we were stuck pretending to be excited that Simon Larose won a few rounds at the Canadian Open that one time? This is so much better. I think that I can't with Bouchard, though. She sounds like a posh twat. Pass.

No, you missed some gasp-worthy shotmaking by Petra. Bouchard did start to wilt in the 2nd set, too bewildered to know how to respond to such a stunning display of lefty perfection. But it's not like she choked; she played well in the first set, just not miraculously.
But probably you can find highlights online, and since the match lacked much tension from fairly early on, that would be as good as watching the match.

I'm sure in Canada, the Bouchard reaction is insane. I can only judge by the media coverage, and it doesn't seem what I would call insane. A lot of people care and obviously it's well covered by the media, but people are not going nuts. This is tennis, so. Also she's the opposite of the typical Quebecer, and the weird accent doesn't help, so I don't think her popularity will ever reach insane level in Quebec, even if she becomes number 1 and wins multiple slams.

A couple of friends who never talk about tennis mentioned it on the their facebook pages today. Nothing outrageous. Though not entirely fair, a much bigger deal would have been made had Milos beaten Roger, i think.
