Let's give Elena a chance to make progress in 2007. If she's healthy I think she'll make alot of progress.

My favorite thing about Bovina is how she helps post-menopausal women fight osteoporosis. GO BOVINA

Once-monthly BOVINA is the only osteoporosis medicine clinically proven to not only maintain bone density, but to actually build strong, healthy bones with just one tablet a month. Just one small, film-coated BOVINA Tablet is effective and it keeps building bone mass for an entire month. Other prescription osteoporosis medications need to be taken once a day or once a week. There’s a different way to manage your osteoporosis. Ask your healthcare provider if BOVINA is right for you. Hot in!

Gosh, while other players were using their injury breaks to whine, to party, or to trip over innocent dogs, Giant Barbie used hers to develop an astounding new medication to help crumbling old women, like Sally Field. That's so compassionate! And then she modestly changed a couple letters around so as to remain anonymous; that's so like her! You rock, EB!

Elena plays Nicole PRATT (AUS) in the 1st round of Gold Coast.
If we lose this, we HATE.

She had better not lose to stupid ugly Pratt.

It's not how you start a race but how you finish. The same is true of Elena's 2007 WTA season. I expect a slow start and bumpy roads. Then if and when Bovina stays healthy and finds her form she will once again be a good tennis player. But it's a process and I hope Elena understands that.

Molik needed a good six months and then a hard-training offseason to find her form. I hope EB won't need that long, but who knows.

With Molik's game and history, it's not shocking that it took her so long to come back. If Lena has been training, it shouldn't be as difficult.

Elena has been training for 4 months. And had 2 competitive matches. She's still probably far off.
But, we can't lose to Pratt.

Sigh. Ugh, I'm getting a horrible feeling about 2007 for our Elena. Only plays the highest events early on, wins very few matches, then gets injured for the rest of the year. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner. Well, no, wins NO matches.

Lena has chosen to play the Bucharest 50K instead of the Zagreb 75K for the week of May 5th, probably because she'll be in the main draw there. She has also signed up for a couple of European challengers the following week. She hasn't pulled out of next week's Cagnes-sur-Mer qualy field yet, but it's only Tuesday. It's fun (for entry-list nerds) to check the entry lists on Tuesdays because the players are all entering and withdrawing en masse that day by means of the same ITF web site you're looking at, so the changes are almost in real time. So sometimes if you're checking periodically, you can pretty much know exactly when some player (or her evil mother, bad dad, or micro-managing manager) was sitting at her laptop messing around with her schedule. It's a slightly strange feeling, and they would probably freak out if you met them at a tournament and said, Oh yeah, I noticed you withdrew from Zagreb around 10:30 AM on Tuesday when you realized you were never going to make the main draw there.

Cagnes-sur_Mer:
Lena starts out her qualy campaign against a player unknown to me, but not a WC: one "Victoria Larriere". Please win this one, Lena!
So odd to see Bovina, Dokic and Lucic all in action this week; it's like pro tennis' version of Night of the Living Dead.

Larrière is not chopped liver -- a 16yo who had a pretty good year in juniors last year, reaching the SF at the Copa Gerdau de Tenis - Junior, Grade A. among a few other good results. This year reached the 2R of the Oz Open jr event (beat B.Gumulya, lost 0-6 4-6 to A-Pav). Seems to be playing the pros exclusively since then.

Rats! I was hoping she was chopped liver. Bovina might have a chance against chopped liver.
