Man, I think Janie just got promoted to super-geezer. *yelling* WE CAN PUT SOME CAB CALLOWAY ON THE VICTROLA IF YOU WANT! I really never heard the name Glenn Frey. I was never an Eagles buff, except the Philadelphia Eagles. ;D But I see on Briny's helpful link that Mr. Frey is EVEN OLDER THAN ME! And that takes some doing!

/me wishes he could be more enthusiastic That's okay, Brinyi. We know you can't help it because you love Batty. Batty was very complimentary towards Justine after the match. Good for her; you never know what that batty girl will do!

Eurosport says: The Belgian will rise to No 11 in the world rankings should she win in Berlin. Actually, I was hoping it would be even higher than that ... that's what I get for reading posts at wtaworld! But first let's see if she beats Nadya. And keeps her focus, the way she has in her last 2 matches.

German tournaments are evil. Yep! Club director suspended for Nazi remarks in guide Web posted at: 5/8/2005 6:45:58 Source ::: The Peninsula/ by D RAVI KUMAR BERLIN: Sixty years ago this week, the Second World War ended in this German city which is steeped in history. But it seems, memories and perceptions of the war and the Nazi regime remain very much an integral part of the people’s daily life. The repercussions and reverberations are still heard, loud and hoarse. People here remember May 8, 1945, as a day when Germany was set free from the Nazi regime, but some of them still argue that Germans who co-operated with the Nazis should also carry at least some of the responsibility for Hitler’s regime. So much so that any mention of Nazis is met with stiff resistance. And no wonder a remark about the Nazis in the official programme book of the Qatar Total German Open has stirred up a big controversy, leading to the suspension of the director of the tennis club hosting the tournament. Lars Rehmann, director of the LTTC Rot-Weiss Berlin Club, was suspended on Friday because of an article (in German language) in the official programme book that described the club as having its ‘golden era’ after its Jewish members were expelled by Nazis.Rehmann was suspended after club president Hans-Juergen Jobski promised to take action over the article in response to strong criticism in some of the local newspapers. “This article is a catastrophe that there’s no excuse for-it’s an indescribably insensitive text,” Jobski was quoted as saying in the Berlin daily B.Z. It may be recalled that in 1933, when the Nazis took power, they expelled Jewish members of LTTC Rot-Weiss Berlin Club, almost half the membership of one of Germany’s famous clubs. “Sportswise, this change wasn’t a demolition for the club and the cream of German tennis-to the contrary,” the article in the programme book said. The following period, in which many Nazis joined the club, was described as ‘golden era’ in the book. During that time, one of the club’s players, Gottfried von Cramm, went on to win the French Open title in 1934 and 1936. “The question is, if there’s enough shame among the people responsible for this scandalous publication,” Jewish German film producer Artur Brauner told B.Z. in comments published in its Friday’s edition. The article was published along with a photograph of the head of the Luftwaffe (the then German Air Force), Hermann Goering, watching a match at the club. Goering, obviously, had close links with the top brass of the Nazi regime. Jobski, told Bild newspaper that the organisers of the tournament were responsible for the publication and not the LTTC Rot-Weiss Club. But tournament director Ayman Azmi of the Qatar Tennis Federation, retorted by asking: “If the club is not responsible, then why did they suspend the club director?” Azmi added: “We came here to organise tennis (tournament). This club has a long history, we are not interested in it. There are five other articles in the book, written by different people under their names. As far as we (QTF) are concerned, we are not the people who selected these articles. But we don’t want to create any controversy.”
